bugs peridots-reblogs ohhh i am going to bite someone for all my favorites being the least-liked...no respect for bugs on the bug poll website???? wasps were my immediate choice obviously. discord name was wasp apologist supreme for a while. they've always fascinated me even before i liked bugs and i absolutely adore them.... nevermind the fact that most species are parasitic and want nothing to do with humans i love wasps ok??? but on the logical side they prey on agricultural pests and pollinate a few species that don't have any other pollinator they're a Very Important part of our world and i'll defend them forever (even if i'm instinctively still terrified of the social ones lol) anyway i'll admit spiders earned their place at the top they literally do not hurt humans like Ever and (like the wasps of course) are actively beneficial to us!!!! roaches i find very cute but i'm biased and anyway there are around 3500 known species of them and only 1% of those live in human homes. mosquitos i'm not the biggest fan of but i'll still argue vehemently that they're an important part of their ecosystems. without question the worst thing about loving bugs is the fact that every single time i try to look up stuff about em all the top results are exterminator websites. or every time there's an insect or myriapod displayed amongst other interesting animals all the comments show disgust and malevolence rather than anything remotely close to reverence. idk it's just. really hard having something that brings me such great joy also being something that everyone actively wants dead. calls for the total extermination for. thinks should die out. squished under their shoe or a frying pan without a second thought it truly SUCKS and i get a little emotional but hey i've managed to make my family change their minds on bugs so that's a start for sure. don't let an aspiring entomologist around one of these polls is the moral of the story
