The problem with many of the conventional solutions proposed is that they make the assumption people understand basic science, at least at a grade 9 or 10 level. Sadly most don't even have this level of knowledge, and more importantly, they lack the understanding and comprehension of what they have been taught. They may have their school grades, but they don't understand how it applies to the real world or how the scientific method works. Most don't even care about their ignorance.
