Alex: So is this thing between Buck and Bucky supposed to be a secret? Brady: Hardly, the only people who don’t know are Buck and Bucky.

"Buck, Wake Up."

"Buck, wake up."

Gale whines softly and buries his face deeper into the pillow that he hugs with his arms.

"No, I don't want to."

It's such a perfect morning.

The sun gently warms his ankle, sticking out from the cocoon of the blanket, with its gentle morning rays and Gale is already on the verge of waking up, his feelings are gradually starting to return him to reality, but the veil of sleep has not yet fallen, his breathing is even and calm, as is his heartbeat, and he does not want to open his eyes and completely destroy the sleepy serenity.

He feels John's hand gently stroking his back. It is so big and warm, not heavy, but just a little bit weighty, giving a feeling of anchor, it gives him a feeling of calm, safety and home.

John's touches in the morning are usually not like this. They are persistent and greedy, he pokes his morning hard-on into his buttocks, and his hands shamelessly slip either into his underwear or under his T-shirt, persistently caressing his nipples, his lips kissing everything that gets in their way, be it Gale's face, his neck, hair, at the same time hotly whispering all sorts of lustful nonsense in his ears, just to quickly warm up sleepy Gale to a state where he will be ready to have sex.

But this morning John is not horny, he is gentle. "Well," Gale thinks, "and such mornings are supposed to be too." He feels so good now, he likes the way John's hand slowly strokes his shoulder blades, moves up and down his spine and gently rubs his ribs through his T-shirt.

"Wake up, sleeping beauty," John presses himself closer to him.

"Nooo, it's too early for sex, I need another hour of sleep," Gale grumbles into the pillow and his words can hardly be heard. For some reason, he wiggles his butt from side to side like a big NO, as if he thinks that words are not enough and it needs to be clearly shown to John, that he does not want to leave the embrace of sleep.

He feels more than hears how John quietly laughs next to him, "You'll be late for work."

Gale growls in annoyance, "Then I will certainly not get up if it is for work and not for sex!"

He hugs the pillow even tighter and thinks how did they manage to achieve all this - a house, a shared bed and gentle caresses awakening you from sleep on a perfect morning? How did they overcome all the taboos and barriers on their way to be here and now? It was hellish work, almost harder than both returning alive from the war. From the realization of how much they overcame to have their tiny piece of happiness, his chest begins to hurt and as if feeling it, John hugs him and presses him to himself.

"Baby, you have to get up."

"No."

"You have so much work to do."

"That's not the right motivation at all, Bucky!" Gale chuckles.

"You have a lot of things to do," John's tone becomes more insistent.

Gale groans.

"Buck!" There's a strange, tense ringing in John's voice and Gale doesn't like it.

"Oh, God, dear, why are you yelling like that, I'm getting up..."

Gale opens his eyes and looks out the window. It's gloomy and cloudy outside and it's probably going to rain soon. He looks at the gray, heavy sky for a moment and blinks in confusion. Something is wrong. Something is very wrong. How is this possible when just a few minutes ago he felt the warm rays of the sun on his skin?

Gale raises himself on his elbow, frowning. He no longer feels John's warm touch and he doesn't need to turn around to know that he is completely alone in this bed, like in this whole house.

John died many years ago.

===================

The ghosts of the past haunt Gale.

Norm is absolutely one of my favourite characters in the Fallout universe. The fact he loves his family and wants what's best for them being what drives him to look for the truth of what has happened to them and why is fantastic. The ultimate difference between him and Chet, too, is a great show of his character. It began with him choosing to help his sister find their father and ends with him coming to the same realisation as she has – their father was not the man he said he was and much of their life has been a lie. Watching him decide to take the hunt for the truth into his own hands, even when it could be the end of him, is incredibly compelling.

What makes Norm so enjoyable to watch, too, is just how human he is. All of the characters in the show are that way, which is part of what makes it great (yes, even the ghouls as they were at one time human). The distress he feels at seeing what happened to Vault 32 being swept under the rug, and the anger he feels towards Betty and the others for doing it seemingly out of a desire for control and power more than anything else is tangible. The fact it drives him to take the risk of sneaking into Vault 31 shows his bold and couregous side, and also that it's driven by not only his own curiosities but his desire for the truth. It’s a great parallel trait he shares with Lucy and, as she comes to find out, their mother. The anger he feels towards his father and also the desperation he feels to survive are a great contrast of his truth seeking and his baser humanity.

All things considered, Norm's competing feelings of a desire for truth, a desire for safety, curiosity, and a love for his family are what make him a great character. The fact he shares those traits with Lucy but expresses them in different ways creates a strong parallel narrative for their characters, and also does a great job showing the two sides of courage. The fact neither he or Lucy are impervious or shy away from moments of weakness and subsiming emotion latch onto the naivety from their upbringing and also their humanity. With them both now having to reckon with the truth about their father, a reunion between them will I'm sure be great and also remind them that not all of their family members are bad. Reckoning with the truth about their mother and Lucy's love for her being what compelled her to end her suffering before breaking down at the gravity of it is another layer of complexity to their family dynamics that both of them will need time to sit with. The contrasting feelings of how they knew their father versus what they've come to learn about him serve well to separate them from others like Chet; where he, their cousin, chooses to remain wilfully ignorant, they chose to put aside their fears and look for a truth they knew was out there.

Chet is a coward because he chooses to ignore the truth he has seen with his own eyes.

Lucy is brave because she is willing to go to any and all lengths to find her father and is then willing to end the suffering her mother is under because of him; she is openly emotional and driven by that and the love she feels for her family and is horrified and shattered by her father being a different man than the one she had always known.

Norm is brave because he is willing to do anything for his sister and father and, when faced with the choice to stay in blissful ignorance, because he chooses to seek out the truth even when it could hurt him; he, too, doesn't shy away from the pain the truth about his father causes him and, like Lucy, has to learn to live with the competing memories of their father and the reality of who and what he is.

Hank is a coward because, while he goes to the extremes to attempt to preserve himself and his family, he refuses to accept the fact his actions have consequences for the way his children (and, previously, their mother) had seen him and instead tries to force things to go back to the way they were before his children could learn of his ability to be selfish.

And Rose was brave because she loved her children so much that she would and did do everything for them, even when she had to put her love for their father aside and risk herself so that she and her children could have a chance to live in truth rather than lies. Her children share that with her, even though they didn't know it, just as much as they share her love, empathy, and desire for the truth even when living in wilful ignorance could have been easier.

Tl;dr – the entire MacLean family being driven by love for each other but expressing it in different ways that ultimately drive them apart is not only great at showcasing the different sides of courage and cowardice but showing the way Lucy and Norm are so similar and are driven by their love for their family just as much as their desire for the truth and that neither Lucy or Norm shy away from their emotional and impulsive reactions to it presents them as not only fully human but two sides of the same coin; they are both couregous even though they take two different paths to the truth.

A gothic horror story where a gentleman from a good family gets haunted by something monstrous, which follows him around and keeps killing people around him at utter random, in cruel and horrifying ways. Specifically within circumstances where the protagonist has no alibi, and everything indicates that he committed the murders.

But the real horror is not that he would find himself accused of the murders, but that the people around him naturally assume that he did do it, but genuinely do not care, because the victims are never people that the society around him considers "important". The scullery maid of his household is found brutalised beyond recognition in a room where even the ceiling has been splattered with blood, and a constable of the local police brushes it off as a case of household discipline gone wrong, being horrifyingly casual with the assumption that the protagonist severely beat a girl in his service to death, and will dismiss it as an accident. The street urchin that the protagonist was seen talking with - wanting to help this poor little orphan - is found decapitated, severed head in the protagonist's fireplace. This, too, is calmly swept under the rug.

After every horrifying murder, the protagonist tries to seek help, to present the crime to authorities in hopes of getting some semblance of help, or at least clearing his own name of this, but every time it's brushed off. "These things do happen", he is reassured, like it's perfectly normal that a mansion of that size has a secret garden of unmarked graves in one shady corner.

The real horror is the ever-encompassing implication that this is perfectly normal.

Thinking about Jake being 'hot for teacher' and realizing (after the fact, post-canon when he finds out about who Mav is for Rooster for real) that all the mannerisms he found hot in Rooster first time they met (and still are part of why he finds him attractive) are Maverick's mannerisms but inherited

(The way he moves his hips, the way he bops his head when he plays piano, the way he clenches his jaw when he's frustrated or angry, the way he raises his eyebrows and just-barely-there smirks when he flirts, the way humms instead of saying yeah, the way he ruffles his partner's Jake's hair when he's being fondly affectionate, the way he makes his french toast, putting it in the toaster before marinating, the way he bits down on his tongue when he's thinking about something complicated, even the way he clears his sweaty face with his shirt is exactly like Mav's - he takes it out from the side, not the front like everyone would; that's all Maverick but in Rooster's version)

[Maybe Jake even gets a second blast of surprise when he realizes the way Bradley wears his shirts unbutton on the top directly mimics the Iceman, the way the admiral scratches behind Maverick's ear directly mimics the way Bradley's done it to Jake countless times, the way he eats his ice cream - scoping it around the base, then taking the syrup or sprinkles, then coming back to the base, then to the top - they way plates his meals in three equal parts, veggies, meat, carbs; that's all Iceman]

Mav and Bradley reconcile and he finds out (it's not really a surprise tho) that Mav and Ice got married, so he apologizes for not being there for them at their wedding.

Mav blinks at him all confused because while he's feeling something at Bradley being so remorseful — looking like a kicked puppy, really — about missing a big moment of their life but also because, "Oh, no, buddy, we didn't have a wedding."

And the thing is, they got married when Ice's health took a turn for the worse, and it was allowed and legal and would, in Ice's opinion, make a lot of things easier for Mav in case he died — even just from an inheritance point, or just so the Navy doesn't forbid him from being part of the state funeral. It was a very quick sign the papers, get someone to officiate it in the hospital, and then get their lawyer to adjust the paperwork in the express time kind of marriage.

Things got better and life went on and they just, well, forgot to have a real wedding. And they were fine with it. They didn't need a wedding, in fact now that Bradley was back in their life, they couldn't be happier.

But in Bradley's head, an idea is born. Mav and Ice will have their 30th anniversary in a few months (more like almost 10...) and it's the perfect time to get them to have a wedding. You know, as a gift from him for missing all those years from their life.

The problem is, it very quickly turns out that Bradley is shitty at planning weddings. He doesn't know where to start and what needs to be organized and how to organize it in a way that lets it stays a surprise.

But you know who is good at it? Jake Seresin, brother of four sisters, planner of four weddings.

And how does Bradley know that? Well. He might or might not have been Jake's plus one to all four of those weddings.

If Mav and Bradley made up before TG:M — how badly do you think Mav would tease Bradley about Hangman?

(timeline being: pulled papers - Jake/Bradley dating then breaking up - Bradley at Top Gun/Ice's diagnosis - Mav and Bradley making up for Ice's sake - Mav finding out about Jake - TG:M happening)

At the Hard Deck, Mav and Bradley are supposed to meet up, but Mav still hears the whole Bradley/Jake exchange and teases him miserably at home. You look good? Really, Bradley?

And then the next day, on the tarmac. Not the type I'd take you for, but I can see the appeal. And then, Dad, stop.

And then he keeps on pairing them up for training. You know, like a teacher who knows two of his students have crushes on each other but one of those students is his son.

And then on the beach. Do you need to borrow my sunglasses, Bradley? Do you want a tissue for that drool? Should I call you an ambulance for the heatstroke you're having? Is that sunburn or are you blushing? And a very embarrassed, you took this training to the beach on purpose, Mav.

(Meanwhile Jake is just really confused why the heck Bradley knows that old timer so well and why they're so close...)

Something about Rooster admiring so much his parents relationship and aspiring to have a love so beautiful as theirs, sweet and romantic and truly a fairy tale that would warm his heart forever

And ending up with the asshole who can't be nice to save his own live, that chews on a toothpick 24/7 and makes his life a living hell for the fun of it while looking so smug NARCISSUS HIMSELF would be jealous

He wanted a love like his parents had, and he got it! Unfortunately he had 2 set of parents and the love he ended up having was similar to the WRONG ONE

wish i could go missing for a little bit and no one would freak out and then i could come back and they'd be like "did you have fun going missing" and i'd be like "yeah, thanks" and then i could do that every couple of months or so and it wouldn't be a big deal

the scariest scene for me in the show is when annabeth is aggressive toward the police officer. i was so afraid for her life. because she doesn't know to be wary. because she and her dad never had that conversation. hand downs. scariest scene.

Watching the Percy Jackson series has made me empathize with Aphrodite more than I ever thought possible.

Cuz these kids are TWELVE and are out here just trying to SURVIVE, but every time Percy and Annabeth interact I’m giggling and kicking my feet like “Hehehe you don’t know it yet, but that is the love of your life. Yes, yes, there’s a big scary monster but what about the slow-burn romance?”

And I always found it so annoying in the books when Aphrodite would show up and only be interested in the romantic dynamics between the characters and otherwise be kinda useless. But now??? I’m totally on the same page with her. Cuz I know they’re going to fight a million monsters and win, and at the end of the day one fight looks just like the next. But they only fall in love ONCE and it’s AMAZING.

Like damn. Apologies the goddess Aphrodite. I suddenly get it.

I think a lot about Jake and Bradley unconsciously parroting Carole and Goose's relationship.

I think about them calling each other "honey" often. About Jake flirting, calling Rooster a stud. About Jake sitting in Bradley's lap while he screeches over the piano keys, the other daggers surrounding them with love and laughter. I think about Jake leaning over Bradley to face Nat and telling her, "So. Rooster told me about you and Bob-o, Trace. Hell of an improvement from the last asshole you dated." Only for Rooster to SQUEAK beside him, nuzzling Jake's cheek with a frantic, "Baby, I did not--" "Yes you did." "That was supposed to be a secret, honey!"

Like yes, they're often compared to Icemav, and it's true--SO true, but I also like to think that when Icemav are together, Mav also takes inspiration from Carole and Goose on how to be a partner.

Anyway, send tweet.

au in which Mav and Ice are actually the best kept secret in the Navy to the point that, when Bradley starts to say they are his dad and pops and they love each other soo much nobody believes him and they all say he tone down his herowhorsipping thing because there must be a limit somewhere.

can we just take a second to appreciate Aryan Simhadri? he's a fantastic actor, every second he's on the screen he manages to make his actions scream GROVER. he's perfect for his role just like Leah and Walker are yet I don't see nearly enough people talking about him and his contribution to the show in this fandom. he's not only nailing the Grover Underwood vibe but he's also providing so much phenomenal Indian/Asian rep. he's giving so much depth of character and that is so rare for Indians (and Asians generally) in popular media, and he's so conscious of how his background interacts with Grover's. Aryan has given so so much to us and now I wanna hear y'all celebrating that.

something something Jake thrives in chaos but craves peace, something something Bradley thrives in peace but craves chaos

daily create challenge || 2/365

“You used to hate this part.”

Bradley’s voice is soft. Pitched low enough that his words are more rasp than velvet, more of a scratch than a balm, but Jake still feels warmed through.

He cracks an eye open slowly as Bradley’s words hang in the air, shifting a little against Bradley’s side as he forces himself back to awake instead of dozing.

“What part?” Jake asks, arm wrapping tighter around Bradley’s waist.

He hikes his leg up higher over Bradley’s thighs and yawns, wincing when the movement reminds him how they’ve spent the afternoon.

“This,” Bradley murmurs. “Just — bein’ together.”

Jake snorts. “You mean the afterglow? M’pretty sure I love this part, sore ass be damned.”

“No,” Bradley mutters fondly. Jake can’t see it happening, but he knows Bradley is rolling his eyes. “Bein’ sore is your fault, by the way. I told you I shoulda gone slower.”

“I haven’t been home for eight weeks and you picked me up wearin’ my cologne,” Jake huffs, stifling a yawn. “I didn’t want slow, I wanted you in me.”

“Romantic.”

“Bite me.”

Bradley laughs quietly, his hand moving over Jake’s arm until he’s able to press his finger against a brand new bruise forming on Jake’s shoulder. “I did, remember?”

Jake twists one of Bradley’s nipples in retaliation. “What part, then?” he asks again, brushing a kiss against Bradley’s collarbone.

Bradley settles at the kiss to his skin, running his fingers up and down the length of Jake’s arm as he answers, “The — after afterglow, I guess. You used to hate the quiet, y’know?”

Jake swallows, closing his eyes. “I still do,” he admits. “Anywhere else, I hate it. It fuckin’ makes my skin crawl.”

Bradley tilts his head so his lips brush against Jake’s forehead as he whispers, “But here’s different?”

“You know it is,” Jake whispers back. Then, teasingly — “There’s no place like home.”

“Mm, you mean back in your house or back to using my chest as a pillow?”

“Our house,” Jake replies, pressing in closer. “And yes.”

I started to notice more graffiti above street level, on other train bridges, on rooftops, on high walls and car flyovers. How had those writers gotten there? Soon, wherever I went, I saw less the cold iron-and-brick brutality and more the masked persons climbing nimbly down the crosshatchings of the pilings, sprinting across the gravel, spray-painting the walls; less the steel girders and I-beams, and more the running and jumping and climbing and the thrill of hanging above the bustling road. A well-placed piece of graffiti, I realized, meant that someone had actually been there and written it—which suddenly meant that London, which is covered in graffiti, was way more open than all the CCTV and fences and walls suggested. Here’s how to look at London. Here’s how to live in London. Here I am, the writer says, in this place I can’t be.

Clement Gelly, “Graffiti, Through Grief and Discovery”, pub. Hazlitt [transcript in ALT]

the way coral said "I killed them all for nothing" just before whe was bitten by a snake hit so hard. because for the whole games you saw her as a villian, as a bad person. But, just like everyone in that arena, she wanted to see her family and friends again, she was just a kid that wanted to live. And her last thought was about the innocent souls she had to kill for that.
