Aside from the the beautiful colors, animation and skin tones
Watching Abuela talk in this movie was like watching every toxic trait my Cuban family has come to life. The toxic traits that cause you to hide/question career choices, lifestyle choices, your sexuality just so you can remain in ✨la familia✨. Never truly being yourself because you want to appeal to an old woman with dusty ass traditions that mean NOTHING in the modern world. Because you don't want to end up like Bruno right? I am SICK of the intergenerational trauma Latinos put on their kids, especially their girls. To all my fellow, proud Latinas, please break free. Nobody and nothing is worth sacrificing yourself over. Kiss that boy/girl, take that job in another country, live alone, do everything they say you "can't" do because they are too afraid to do it themselves.
It's silly of me to always wish for people I'm NEVER going to meet

Watching La'an and Jim argue for an hour like an old married couple had me guffawing. Paul has most definitely grown as Jim. He's funny, charming, and a little arrogant. That smooch though 😘 Also, the fact that they made little Khan ACTUALLY INDIAN, makes my poc heart pitter patter. Poor La'an :( Can't wait til the next episode, hoping it focuses on Erica this time.

On a Peaky blinder kick, anything to block out reality
Me: I love being exhausted at the end of each day, trying to be normal.
Narrator: She in fact did not love killing herself to be normal but had to because neurotypicals think silence and no eye contact is shady, spineless, or "antisocial". This has, historically, cost neurodivergent people jobs and relationships from people who do no try to understand them but expect understanding for their own failures.
