“Woah. Wait. What?” Bard stopped them. “Army? What are you–” His eyes widened. “Oh, Eru. No. What the hell are you planning? I thought you were headed to the Iron Hills?!”
The Elve shared a look, and Balin shook his head.
“You’re going to the mountain.” Bard understood even without anyone saying anything. “I can’t believe I’m helping you. You’re going to bring the wrath of the dragon down on all of us!”
“Stop being melodramatic, Bard,” Bilbo said. “It’s not cute in a grown man.”
“Oh, pardon me. I suppose I should be grateful you want to stir up the embodiment of death!”
“We’re not going to let the dragon come to Laketown.”
“How are you supposed to stop a bloody dragon?!”
Shrugging, Bilbo said, “We’ll figure something out.”

A Modern Hobbit AU,
Except the Company is a band with Thorin as the lead Guitarist/singer and founder of the band. Gandalf is their Manager.
The plot is that they need a lead singer for the tour they’re about to go on, and Gandalf remembers his old friends son who had an amazing voice.
He shows up with the band at Bilbos house, they throw a rave and convince him to go on tour with them. They don’t believe that he’s as good of a singer as Gandalf says until they actually hear him sing.
Thorin doesn’t think he fits in with their aesthetic, but then accidentally falls in love with Bilbo.
If nobody draws this then I’m gonna lose it, im going to do it myself, but I hope to see someone else’s interpretation.

I get people asking me how I recovered from everything my parents put me through.
And there are a lot of answers but there’s one I haven’t told anyone yet.
It’s the fact that I genuinely gaslit my way through.
Internally I became the most egotistical mother fucker, I would flex in the mirror for ten minutes after spending all day killing myself in the gym, I’d compliment myself all the time, I was like “those guys don’t like me? Who gives a shit? Not me, I’m awesome”
And it worked, still does.
I just stopped caring about the things that upset me, and now I’m a bit better.

My three hunters modern au concept is they're three dudes who you cross paths with on every hike and they're always in the middle of a 16-20 mile day, but they always stop and give you directions and have a little chat about gear or the weather or the best swimming location nearby, then you see them at the bar nearest to the trailhead by 6pm. You always kinda assume at least two of them are gay, but you're not sure which, until you catch sight of them at a local pride event and realize it's all of them.
so I'm rereading the lotr trilogy right now (after having just read it for the first time earlier this year) and I find it so interesting that tolkien is SO HEAVILY against allegory, specifically from an author-imposed perspective; instead, he says that the reader is the one with agency in any deeper meaning of the text:
"Other arrangements could be devised according to the tastes or views of those who like allegory or topical reference. But I cordially dislike allegory in all its manifestations, and always have done so since I grew old and wary enough to detect its presence. I much prefer history, true or feigned, with its varied applicability to the thought and experience of readers. I think many confuse 'applicability' with 'allegory'; but the one resides freedom of the reader, and the other in the purposed domination of the author." - The Fellowship of the Ring, Foreward to the Second Edition, p. xxvi.
I'm no English major but I exist in the sphere of literary and information studies (I'm a grad student in archival studies) and this is my favourite literary theory I've heard about in passing from my peers. anyway this is all a justification of my impending rants and interpretive posts upcoming as I go through the books and (lightly) annotate them this time around so uh buckle up for some unhinged analysis and general feral fan behaviour

As much as I like the Hobbit movies in their own right, I love the books a lot more.
So when I’m writing Legolas and Tauriel by choice into my fics, I have fun with it.
Cause screw ‘high and mighty awesome Legolas’ that’s not who he is, he’s a childish little twink who falls head over heels in love with a Dwarf.
I also like fixing his and Tauriel relationship. In my stories Legolas follows her around like a little duckling, he follows her lead when they’re outside the palace.
She’s fixing her bow in front of the fire while his heads in her lap, whining about how weird and overbearing his dad is. He’s glancing up at her whenever he’s talking to someone new, waiting for her nod of approval.
They are Exasperated Big Sister and Autistic Homeschooled Little Brother fr and I fw it.
Me: *strapped to a chair in a cold interrogation room with a middle aged man pacing back and forth*
Him: *projects a picture of Sam and Frodo on to the wall* What is their relationship?
Me: Their ship is valid and very cute, but we should also consider the idea that their admiration and respect for one another is a deep, platonic bond. Love doesn't always have to be romantic, and it is important for men to be able to express their platonic care for one another in a way that toxic masculinity doesn't currently allow.

Do you ever think of the fact that Gimli knew Ori well enough to be able to recognise his handwriting after years of not seeing him?
Do you think about one night, Ori, Fili, Kili and Gimli are out having drinks or something before they leave to join the Company, joking and promising Gimli that they’d be back soon to tell him all about it, how they couldn’t wait to see him again but in Erebor.
Do you think that Ori and Gimli sat together, alone. The Princes voices no longer filling the silence.
Then Gimli sat alone.

For all that is talked about, Legolas does not get nearly enough praise for how kind he is.
Joins the fellowship on a mission almost guaranteed to take all their lives in sacrifice without blinking. Never uses his title of prince and, in fact, doesn’t mention it at all. Takes part in the battle despite it having little effect on him, with his people sailing west and leaving the war-torn shores.
He rebuilds the rubbles of cities destroyed, makes the world better and filled with life, both flora and fauna. He stays beyond the calling of the sea, resisting the desperate urge engraved in his bones calling him to sail. He, with a gentle hand and a brave heart, handbuilds a ship and takes the risk of bringing Gimli along with him.
He doesn’t have to, but he did.
Frodo listening to Aragorn’s stories about Númenor with quiet fascination, his love for lore and history shining through.
Frodo being the only one patient enough to sit through Gandalf’s long explanations, genuinely enjoying the depth of knowledge.
Frodo sharing a quiet understanding with Boromir, both of them burdened by duty.
Frodo smiling whenever Legolas describes the beauty of the Elven realms, though a flicker of longing crosses his face.
Frodo comforting Merry and Pippin after hard times, reminding them they’re stronger than they realize, and thankful they came along, even if it was just an accident at first.
Frodo instinctively reaching for Sam in moments of doubt, drawing strength from his presence even without words.
Frodo quietly writing in his journal at night, capturing the journey not just for history, but to remind himself that he is still himself.
Frodo trying to never let the Ring take away his kindness, even when it weighs heavier than anything he’s ever known.
Frodo proving, time and time again, that he is more than just the Ring-bearer—he is a friend, a scholar, and a heart too big for the burden he carries.

my dream as a fanfic writer is for one day, one of my fics to be someones comfort fic. like the fic that they reread when they don't feel good and want to be happy. i want my words to comfort someone one day
unless they specifically asked, you don’t get to tell a fanfic writer you think they mischaracterized the character by the way. because the second someone writes a fanfic about a character, that character becomes the writer’s own version of the character. canon is only a suggestion, but whether or not an author will follow it / how much of canon an author will take is entirely up to them. you don’t get to stick your nose in their world and tell them “hey this is not to my liking therefore I think you’re doing it wrong” when you can simply leave quietly and move on to something else you may enjoy

I have an opinion of Rings of Power.
But hear me out because I am commonly known for being in the grey area of a lot of things. I like having that open mind and that’s what I say with this.
I’ve heard a lot of hatred for Rings of Power, and I get it, it’s not something straight from Tolkien, it’s a rendition.
But hear me out when I say I freaking love Rings of Power and everything about it. And I know it’s not fully canon, I know all of that.
But gang.
Rings of Power. Is literally fanfiction.
It’s a fanfic brought to TV.
That’s probably why I love it so much as well, because yeah, it’s not canon, neither is Thorin being Frodo’s dad/uncle but we roll with that when we read it cause it brings us joy.
I have similar views for The Hobbit. It’s literally Bagginshield slow burn and Kili x OC.
