Pairing: Company x GN Reader (platonic)
Summary:Â (y/n), a human from another world, finds themself within the famous children's story The Hobbit becoming a member of the Company of Thorin Oakensheild. One night after a long ride the Company set up camp in a cave to shield themselves from the never ending rain. (y/n) follows after the two princes and the hobbit to speak with them when they are all given a good scare.
Warnings: Injured reader
--------------------------------
Honestly, (y/n) wasn't sure how exactly they ended up in their current predicament. Sitting on the bank of an angry river in the middle of nowhere, during a harsh downpour. They sat in the mud, completely soaked and shivering; they hugged themself close, and hissed when they felt the growing burning pain in their forearms. While they were still in the water the current brought a dead log right into their path. In order to keep themself conscious, they had to bring their arms up above their head to take the brunt of the hit before they went under. Their right foot was missing itâs boot, which made them considerably colder than they already were. Plus, they were crestfallen over the loss of such loved footwear. (y/n) really loved those boots.
After sitting there for an unknown amount of time, (y/n) hauled themself up and began limping back towards the camp. They didn't give any thought to an explanation to give the company upon her return; Their mind was too scattered. (y/n) couldn't think straight as they tried to recall what had happened. When they fell into the river, the ground had crumbled beneath their feet, and they tumbled into their near-watery demise. Fili and Kili had been there, along with Bilbo, who had let out quite a scream at their fall. They must be worried sick. (y/n) found themself becoming increasingly more exhausted the longer they walked. How far had the river carried them? Soon their thoughts werenât more than just incoherent blurs in their head.
When they arrived at the mouth of the cave, their teeth chattered loudly, and they rubbed their hands up and down the sides of their arms. When (y/n) came into view, several figures stood and quickly came to their aid, not that they were really willing to accept it. They brushed past them, heading straight for their bag on a mission to get out of their wet clothes and into relatively dry ones. They didn't even notice that several members of the company were missing. Pulling out a set of new clothes, someone approached them and placed a warm hand on their shoulder.
â(Lass/Lad), you alright?â It was Bofur, his voice was soft and full of concern.
âTell everyone to turn around.â They avoided his question. âPlease.â
âWhat?â
âTell everyone to turn around. Iâm gonna change.â They didn't even give him time before they started pulling their shirt off over their head.
Bofur sputtered and spun on his heel with his hands slapped over his eyes. The others soon followed, and (y/n) heard several surprised mutters in Khuzdul, but paid them no mind. They continued on, their pants following their shirt to the ground; they stripped down to nothing. The chill air blew over their naked skin, making a violent shiver run down their spine, and they quickly pulled on the second set of clothes. After they were fully clothed they walked past a few turned heads and sat themself as close to the fire as they could with her blanket slung over their shoulders.
âYou can open your eyes now.â (y/n) teased.
â(Lass/Lad),â This time it was Balin who addressed them, and they hummed in response as they warmed her hands over the fire. âAre you alright?â
(y/n) was quick to answer, âYeah, Iâm pretty sure Iâm good.â
âAre you sure? How about you let Oin l give you a good once over?â His voice was firm.
âBilbo came running in nearly twenty minutes ago, screaming about how youâd fallen in the river.â Dwalin spoke up to reinforce his brother's suggestion. âThorin and them are still out there lookân for ya.â
After he mentioned it (y/n) looked around and noticed that he was right. Thorin, Fili, Kili, and Bilbo were all missing from the cave. They chewed on their lip unconsciously, thinking about how worried they must be, how worried they all had been before their unforeseen reappearance. Where were they now? How far had they gone? They thought about getting up to go get them themself but ultimately decided against it due to their freezing and battered state. (y/n) pursed their lips then looked up to Dwalin.
âShouldn't someone go find them? Itâs still raining.â
âAye, Iâll go tell them your back alive.â And with that Dwalin nodded towards Balin, and made his way out of the mouth of the cave.
(y/n) watched him leave when another violent shiver racked their body. A large warm hand placed itself gently onto their cheek almost making them sigh, but they didn't resist slightly leaning into the touch. Bifur had moved to their side with a very concerned crease in his brow. He spoke something to Balin and removed his hand - much to their dislike - to make a few hand signals. The older dwarf nodded and took a few steps closer.
âI do believe it would be in your best interest to allow Oin to look you over, Bifur says your freezing.â He paused, thinking, âYou took a hard fall, (lass/lad). It also wouldn't be wrong to assume you may be injured.â
âI guess there's no harm in it.â (y/n) gave in.
Balin waved Oin, who grabbed his medical bag, grunting as he pulled himself to his feet. (y/n) had to turn their back to the fire to face Oin as he sat before them, feeling their skin with his bare hand. They showed him their arms to which he shook his head and muttered something under his breath, before bandaging them up. The bandages went from just below their elbow to just before their wrists. It felt odd to have their arms wrapped up the way they were but never once did they say anything opting to allow Oin to do his thing.
At one point their foot was in his grasp where he found a gash about four or five inches long on the back of their calf where a rock had caught their leg and stolen their boot. It was slightly deep so he had to stitch it close before wrapping a bandage around it too.
By the time he finished, Dwalin returned with the last members of the company hot on his heels.
Do you ever think of the fact that Gimli knew Ori well enough to be able to recognise his handwriting after years of not seeing him?
Do you think about one night, Ori, Fili, Kili and Gimli are out having drinks or something before they leave to join the Company, joking and promising Gimli that theyâd be back soon to tell him all about it, how they couldnât wait to see him again but in Erebor.
Do you think that Ori and Gimli sat together, alone. The Princes voices no longer filling the silence.
Then Gimli sat alone.

I hate when Iâm trying to write my fics in peace but suddenly Iâm hit with a ship that would make more sense but this current ship is so embedded in my fic that I canât change it even if I wanted to đ«
it's criminal how precious lego fili is
Absolutely illegal to be this full of sunshine and full of knives
Small child Fili is insistent on sleeping with his knife collection at night and has even taken to sneaking them under his pillows and Dis and Thorin are at their wits end bc he keeps nicking himself in his sleep and whats more Kili will outgrow his crib soon and need to share Filiâs bed and knives added to the mix is just a disaster waiting to happen. They try to coax Fili and get him to leave his knives on the nightstand (âlook, you can still see them right there, ok dear?â) but nothing works and heâs a shrieking mess and wont go to sleep for ANYTHING but his knives.
Everyone is at their witâs end when its Dwalin who comes up with a solution: using his sewing skills (which are actually pretty good, even Dori thinks so) he fashions a bean-filled doll that resembles the knife Filiâs father gave him (the prize of Filiâs collection, naturally) and gives it to the lad. Everyone holds their breath and thinks its not gonna work but Fili is over the moon and the doll is his new best friend (after Kili of course).
He takes it everywhere and tries to feed it soup at dinner and of course he sleeps with it, being extra careful to keep his collection on the nightstand so his doll doesnât get hurt. He names it Zugragur (khuzdul constructed diminutive of blade, so like âBladeyâ) and he still has it to this day
When I was seventh grade, we read The Hobbit. Now like usual when it came to older books, I was the only kid who liked it whilst other favored books that were rubbish. Anyways, whenever we finished a book the teacher would see if there was a movie, so we were watching the first Hobbit movie when Fili and Kili come on screen Which led to all the girls freaking out over Kili whilst I sat in the back saying to myself, "What about Fili? He's beautiful too." And that's the story about how I was the only girl in my class that liked Fili (and also became obsessed with Tolkien and his books).

I hope you enjoy it. Part 2 is coming soon. Happy readings!đ€
Bilbo smells like sweet pipe weed grown in his family garden for generations and apple tarts heavy with cinnamon and brown sugar--like home
Thorin smells like coal fire--he works in forges all the time and the smell just never can get out of his clothes or hair
Fili smells like lavender and thyme once they're no longer on the run--he takes pride in keeping himself clean and takes comfort in the herbal scents
Kili smells like pine and sprucewood--more elf than dwarf, he's always in the forests, exploring and climbing and getting sap all over himself
Balin smells like paper and gentle, pleasant tobacco smoke--a librarian and aide to the bone (or nose!)
Dwalin smells like rock--sharp iron, axe blades and whetstones
Bofur smells like linen-scented cotton and soft wood--he's a toymaker before he's a miner
(No Bifur sorry)
Bombur just somehow always smells like cake, vanilla to be exact--it's a rich but deep scent and it doesn't leave even if he's been on the road for months
Nori smells like sharp grease and oil--no valid reason tbh
Dori smells like cherry blossoms and white wine --no one knows how he manages that
Ori smells like paper too--but you can also smell how much chalk and charcoal dust he ends up with at the end of a long day of sketching
Ăin smells like a sharp, pungent but not unpleasant mixture of several different types of herbs and poultices--and the polished leather bag he carries them in
GlĂłin is happily married and off limits for these types of fics but I'll tell you anyway--he smells like peat moss and a bit of bergamot
Elrond smells like candle wax, sage, and dust--not unpleasant dust, just the kind that is drawn to things ancient and worth dusting off
Lindir smells like water that runs over smooth beds of rocks, coupled with a light bit of lily
Thranduil smells like a king ("a proper one," he would probably sneer)--like rich, dark wood and brandy and the sweet smell of pastries that indicate decadence, but not so much to be gaudy
Legolas smells like undergrowth and his own special musk (he's always moving and doing) masked by a sort of bourbon-scented special cologne--you could describe it as charred oak and syruped cherries
Everyone I need some help! So you know how in stories people always describe their love interests smell, like fresh linen and strawberries or smoke, clove and oranges, well I want to hear what smell you would associate with Fili and Kili? (And the rest of the company or that matter) would they smell sharp like a citrus? Soft like lavender? What?
I want to see what different people think and how they interpret the characters!
Reblog and tell me what you think they and any others in the hobbit (dwarf, hobbit and elf alike) would smell like!

Younger Nori, Dori and Ori (perhaps Nori wasnât so different from Kili once, hahaâŠ)
Aannnd baby Kili and Fili because I saw some other really cute drawings of them as children. I⊠I kinda went nuts⊠D;
Extra drawing: Young Bofur and BomburâŠ
Matt Smith (Prop Designer):Â
âA Dwarven pipe was one of the first things I got to draw on The Hobbit and I was imagining what it might be made out of. When it came back from being made it was stunning: beautifully crafted out of carved walnut wood with ivory and silver. I suppose I thought it would be carved in polystyrene or something, so my expectations were blown.â
Alex Falkner (Weta Workshop Props Model Making Supervisor):
âCounting all the various doubles, we made something like 500 weapons for Thorin and his companions, far more than we made for all the hero characters of The Lord of the Rings a decade earlierâŠâ
Emily-Jane Sturrock (Armour and Weapons Lead Stand-by):
"With Dwalinâs axes, for example, we had heavy versions for hitting with; mid-weight versions that gave an adequate sense of heft for an actor to hold in a scene, but which you wouldnât want to carry for a long time; a flexible, lightweight pair to be worn on the back for stunt work; and a lightweight pair for the actor to wear on his back or run with in his hands. Graham McTavish could tell the difference between them instantly.â
Graham McTavish:
âI remember when we had our initial discussions with the Weta Workshop design team about dreaming up weapons for our characters to carry. It was marvellous in that abstract context and you found yourself thinking, âOh, I want this gigantic thing that can crush people!â Of course, a few weeks later when youâre shooting the eighth take of scene 88 the ideal weapon you want to be running with is a pen knife and you canât help wondering, 'Who was the genius that suggested I carry a giant hammer?ââ
Richard Armitage:
âThorin had a royal Dwarf sword that represented his birth-right and past, the past in which he began the journey to re-claim Erebor. It was called Deathless in reference to Durin the Deathless, father of the line of Durin to which Thorin is heir.â
Aidan Turner:
âThorin can wield a bow as well, but Kili seemed to have cornered the archery angle for most of the films as far as the Dwarves were concerned. Rumour around Middle-earth has it that heâs a better shot than that Legolas guy or Bard whatâs-his-name.â
Dean O'Gorman:
âFili unloads a lot of gear to Bilbo when we first arrive in Bag End. Itâs quite funny because heâs a walking armoury, but in reality heâs more of a specialist. He might have his other blades as some kind of back-up, but his main weapons are his paired Dwarven swords and itâs them that he relies upon. Fili is a swordsman.â
Stephen Hunter:
âI  got to learn that my character wasnât about these high-tech weapons. Like all the boys in his family, Bombur is more of a scrapper and that shifted my understanding of the character. This Dwarf isnât a trained fighter like perhaps Fili or Kili might be. He hasnât had the kind of life experiences of someone like Nori and he hasnât been to war like Thorin or Balin and Dwalin. He is a working guy. He has a ladle and a pot, which can be effective weapons when push comes to shove, but theyâre tools. [âŠ] I think Bombur considers himself a bit of a weapon. Heâs not fussy. He picks up a few things along the way.â
William Kircher:
âEven in our fight training I said to myself, Iâm just going to go crazy and keep punching and stabing until someone pulls me off. Thatâs Bifurâwhen he gets into it he loses himself completely. Heâs fearless and relentless.
Contrasting that, heâs also a craftsman of astonishing skill. He makes toys that are intricate and beautiful. I love that.â
Peter Hambleton:
âGloin carries a set of axes that anyone who has watched The Lord of the Rings and paid attention will recognize as Gimliâs. Itâs another of the many links between the trilogies that we have established and it makes perfect sense for the character, given how much family means to Gloin and to the Dwarves.â
John Callen:
âI forget where the idea came from originally, but the suggestion of a fighting stick seemed to be a good one to me. Putting a leather strap on it meant I could lean on it or rest it on the ground and hang on to the strap. It could be used for ligting, carrying or whacking. It turned out to be a wonderful weapon.â
Adam Brown:
âWe looked at the World War Two new recruits and how these young men with fresh faces had no idea about the war they had just signed up for.â
Richard Armitage:
âI rather like that Oriâs slingshot is the kind of weapon that doesn't really look like a weapon. A kid could buy a replica and itâd really just be a good old-fashioned, wholesome pea-shooter.â
Mark Hadlow:
âSpeaking to Doriâs eccentricity is his choice of weapon. His signature weapon is absolutely extraordinary. Iâm only sad we lost the bolas at the Goblin caves. I loved my bolas!â
Jed Brophy:
âIâm not sure Nori even knows who his father is. His father was probably some travelling Dwarf who came through and stayed the night and left. Iâm not sure what that says about Dwarf society. There arenât as many women, so there arenât as many opportunities!
I settled on the notion of a fighting staff. It was based on a Maori taiaha, a long wooden weapon with a pointed end and a flat, bludgeoning end. I imagined a weapon like this might actually be a tool that could be used by miners to dig out rock with one end and smash it with the other. If it worked on a rock itâd work just as well on an Orcâs skull.â
