Whumpee's hands shake from pain and exhaustion and henchman rips their shirt apart, revealing their back. Exposed to whumper, whumpee closes their eyes when they hear them walk closer.
Warm hands touch their cold skin, leaving goosebumps on their way. They hear whumper scoff, who bows down so their mouth is right next to whumpee's ear.
"Your old scars will be nothing against what is about to follow," they coo and walk back again, whumpee bracing themself for the pain that comes with the crack of the whip.
The burning sensation makes them grunt, but it's not enough to make them scream. Again and again, the thundering crack rings in whumpee's ears, hot blood running down their back now.
Whumpee's body shakes from pain, their mind racing, wanting it to stop. Barely holding onto consciousness, whumpee coughs and closes their eyes. The whip licks at their skin another time.
i love characters who are like oysters emotionally
Fucking love defiant whumpees who are all bark and no bite, especially when they kick up such a fuss with their whumper, spitting venomous words and promises that they'll never submit...
And all it takes for the cool, level-headed whumper to call their bluff and threaten them with a knife to the throat before whumpee is like a kicked puppy with their tail between their legs, a humiliating reveal to their true self that whumper can't help but rub in

- victim is given cuffs or a collar that effectively freezes them in place. They still feel the passage of time, and will still feel anything that happens to them
- victim is then placed in a public location (city square, atrium in a shopping area, central office, etc) and left in the hands of passersby
- their crimes are holographically projected from the cuffs/collar to alert everyone of the severity. Despite this, even petty crimes are often met with great force from passing strangers
- it is legal to shield victims. Kind strangers or loved ones may stand sentry around them, but must be wary of using force, lest they end up in the same position
- sentences cap out at 48 hours, but multiple sentences may be consecutively served with a day's break in between
- more severe offenses sometimes see the victim stasified in an isolated location, which is then broadcast to the public. This is meant to encourage anyone who was hurt by the victim to seek retribution away from the public eye, but it often leads to more extreme injuries on the victim, dealt by strangers who no longer fear the shame of a crowd
- anonymous mercenary groups can be hired to protect a victim---or hurt them
- the victim's eyes are always closed before stasis. This is to preserve their sight and reduce damage. It also means they never see what's coming.
The partner can either be deceased, broken up with the POV character, or just away on a trip somewhere.
Looking through old photos
^ and maybe kissing a photo of them
Re-reading old texts
Texting their number to ramble even though it's no longer in use
Cuddling with their clothes
Wearing their clothes
Asking a mutual friend how they're doing
Stalking their social media
Listening to songs they like
Spraying their perfume/cologne to pretend they're in the room
Visiting places they used to go to together
Hugging a pillow and pretending it's them
Trying to do something to distract from thoughts of them
Coming up with scenarios in which they're still there (and maybe dwelling on them too much)
Being unable to fall asleep because they miss them too much
Seeing them in their dreams
Buying them gifts for when they get back
Planning a surprise for them for when they get back
Or if they're broken up, working up the courage to get back together with them
Feeling like their whole life is out of whack because they're not around anymore
‘Don’t move.’
Whumpee’s brows furrow as they stand in front of the wooden structure nailed to the wall. What’s whumper going to do this time?
‘Back against the wood.’
Whumpee takes a careful step backwards, hoping, if they press hard enough against it, they’ll just disappear.
‘Each time you flinch it’s another lash.’ And with that, whumper drew their knife from their pocket, and threw it.
Pick a character from your WIP that you think is under-developed and write their origin story. Or create a new character, same idea.
i love characters angstily refusing to look at someone
when they’re ashamed or guilty or scared and they want to keep the peace for just a little longer. they know it’s going to go downhill soon so they’re holding onto the last little shred of calmness they have even if it’s fake
and then the character they’re worried about being mad gently grips their chin and says in a quiet voice “hey, can you look at me?” AAAAA then they hesitate. there’s no way that character isn’t mad at them, this is too good to be true. it just makes them refuse to look up more because they want this dream to last forever and ever
but after a few moments of holding back, they slowly look up, tears in their eyes, to see that the character truly isn’t upset with them. if anything, the character visibly relaxes when they finally make eye contact, confirming to the character that, maybe they’re not okay right now, but they will be eventually
bonus points if they’re injured somehow, esp on their face, and the person that’s holding them drags a finger near the wound in concern, examining it and making sure it’s not worse than it looks 😍😍😍
Parental whumper who has underlings. People who hold Whumpee down, tie them up, even punish them for Whumper. People who coldly help a parent torture their own child, because it's their job. Maybe at least some of them know it isn't right and feel guilty about what they're doing, but not enough to stop it.
