The English band Faustus created this beautiful song based around the legend of the Gurt Dog of Somerset. It was featured on their October 2016 album Death and Other Animals. The song highlights the protective nature of the Gurt Dog and tells a tale of a child that wandered at night only to be ushered home by a large, gentle canine friend.

Soundly dream, Sweetly dream, Close your ears and pray. Gurt Dog howls, On the prowl, For children who’ve run away.

A muzzle pushed into my palm, Velvet it was and warm. The hills were kind, the moor was small, I’d soon be safely home.

He galloped me up to my door, I stretched to kiss his nose. Then climbed back into my fleece-lined bed, Dry down to my clothes.

The Term Blobsquatch Is Used When An Image Is Taken Of A Supposed Sasquatch But Nothing Can Be Deciphered

The term Blobsquatch is used when an image is taken of a supposed Sasquatch but nothing can be deciphered out of the vaguely human-shaped “blob”. These blobs can commonly be debunked as dead trees, tree stumps, or shadows. The term was first used on Bigfoot Forums in the early 2000s by a man by the name of Vito Quaranta.

The Official Loch Ness Monster Sighting Register Keeps A Page On Its Website That Highlights What Does

The Official Loch Ness Monster Sighting Register keeps a page on its website that highlights what does not make a Nessie sighting. The website uses actual accounts that have been reported to it to help decipher what shouldn’t be reported as a legitimate sighting. Some are the more common things that photographs or videos have been debunked as, such as boat wakes, seals, and floating logs. But some others include birds, divers, and even insects. The Register does explain itself on these. It says that the splashes from birds diving or taking off from the water can sometimes look like something suspicious. It explains a situation in 2015 where a woman reported a Nessie sighting but it was debunked as divers that were getting footage for Google Maps’ street view. As for the insects, the Register talks about how bugs too close to the camera lens can sometimes appear monster-ish.

Hidebehind

Hidebehind

A strong, nocturnal creature which feeds off the intestines of its prey. It captures and hides from wayfarers in the woods by sucking in its body so that it can hide behind the trunk of any tree, or the person trying to look at it. It is said they have an aversion to alcohol.

Hidebehinds Are Large Dog-like Creatures Found In The Stories Of Lumberjacks. Hidebehinds Are Described

Hidebehinds are large dog-like creatures found in the stories of lumberjacks. Hidebehinds are described as large dog-like creatures with black, shaggy fur, long, sharp claws, and a tail. The Hidebehind gets its name due to the fact that it hides behind people and when they turn around the Hidebehind hides behind an object or runs behind the person so it isn’t seen then once it gets close enough the Hidebehind kills its victim and then eats them. Experts believe that the Hidebehinds could be black bears.

Jackalope: A North American Cryptid That Has Been Talked About Since American Colonial Times. The Real

Jackalope: A North American cryptid that has been talked about since American colonial times. The real origin of this creature was a 1930s taxadermied hare with antlers grafted on. Since then, hundreds of similar mounts were created by several people, even into the 21st century. Due to the commonality of these mounts, many people were fooled into believing that jackalopes really existed. They aren’t cryptids in the same way that lake monsters are, but horned rabbits have existed in various cultures for centuries.

An Endling Is The Last Known Member Of A Species Or Subspecies. The Endling’s Death Means The End Of

An Endling is the last known member of a species or subspecies. The endling’s death means the end of the species as a whole. The word was supposedly coined by Robert Webster in the mid 1990s. The term is used, however, it still does not have an entry in The Merriam-Webster Dictionary despite Robert trying to get it into the dictionary before his death in 2004. The endling for the Thylacine was called Benjamin.

The Headline That Started It All

The Headline That Started It All

It all started in September of 1958 in a remote logging camp nestled near Bluff Creek, California where loggers were being terrorized by what they called “Bigfoot.” Each morning their camp would be covered in 16 inch tracks, and fruit was stolen from their worksites. The workers felt as if they were being watched at all times from within the forests. The strange occurrences even caused some of the workers to quit their jobs. The logging business in Bluff Creek started to slow due to a lack of workers.

Although the local police department ensured the workers and the townsfolk that it was all just an elaborate prank, the workers insisted that this was all too real. In fact some of the logging veterans had even said they’ve experienced strange activity in the forests for years. The activity in the area slowly escalated until Rey Kerr and Leslie Breazeale saw the creature responsible. In the early morning on their way to work the two loggers spotted a bipedal ape run out in front of their vehicle. They described it as an 8 foot tall creature with long arms, broad shoulders and covered in dark fur. After the creature disappeared into the forest they got out only to see the same sized footprints that had been seen all over the logging site.

On October 15, 1958 the Eureka Humbolt Standard released an article titled “Eyewitnesses See Bigfoot.” The article got a lot of attention and the creature known as Bigfoot gained a lot of popularity. The creature would claim worldwide fame 9 years later when Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin would capture the legendary Bigfoot on film for the first time in the same area.

The Door Of The Holy Trinity Church In Blythburgh, England, Boasts The Proposed Claw Marks Of Black Shuck.

The door of the Holy Trinity Church in Blythburgh, England, boasts the proposed claw marks of Black Shuck. On August 4th, 1577, the Hellhound burst through the door of the church during a thunderstorm, interrupting the congregation in their meeting. Records state that two people, a man and a boy, were killed by the beast and the steeple of the church collapsed.  The marks were made when Black Shuck left the church after the attack.

Gef the Talking Mongoose said a number of notable things in his time living at the home of the Irvings on the Isle of Man. He could speak a number of different languages according to those he spoke to, including but not limited to Welsh, Spanish, and Russian. However, even though he could speak more than English, he once claimed that the Irvings were the ones that had taught him to speak: “For years, I understood all that people said, but I could not speak until you taught me”.

The Black Dogs Of England Are Said To Be Violent Predictors Of Death And Doom, But That Is Not Always

The Black Dogs of England are said to be violent predictors of death and doom, but that is not always the case. The Gurt Dog (“Great Dog”) is said to wander around Quantock Hills in Somerset, England, and it is different compared to its fellows. The Gurt Dog is said to be a kind and gentle protector of those that wander the moors. It is specifically a protector to small children and legend says that the Gurt Dog watches over children that play alone and will even help guide lonely travelers.

Gef the Talking Mongoose is obviously a most unique creature. Unsatisfied by others’ renditions of him, Gef decided he must draw a self portrait. Supposedly, Gef grasped a pencil and drew this sketch of himself. It says: “Crude sketch by Gef. 17/8/35. Supposed to be of his head. J.T.I.” The initials are those of James Irving, on whose property Gef lived.
