Concept: cursed blade rehabilitation center. Destroying a sentient weapon is expensive and highly unethical, so adventurers bring them to the center where highly trained staff can care for them and eventually find them forever homes. It turns out most cursed weapons are products of trauma and are not strictly evil themselves. Some blades turn out to be fiercely protective companions. Others don't even want to be weapons at all, finding joy in simple work like blacksmithing or farming. Most blades just need to be loved.

I heard this audio (originally from Isle of Dogs) and knew that it was a perfect fit for Witherspoon! 👀 It relates to some conflicts in the story that are spoiler-y, but I thought the animatic itself isn't too spoiler-y to share! I'm really pleased with how it came out.

one of the cutest things humans can do is discover a thing and immediately show it to a friend who will like it more. deriving joy from something that a friend likes solely because you love your friend is cute enough, but seeking them out to show them the thing is priceless

God answers difficult questions

Where was God when this happened to me?: He was there—He sees everything (Prov. 15:3)

Didn't He care? Yes, He did and still does (Nah. 1:7; 1 Pet. 5:6, 7).

How could a loving God allow this to happen? God gave His creations freedom of choice. He did not make people like puppets (Deut. 30:15-20).

Does the Lord understand how I feel? Yes, more than anyone (Is. 53:3; Heb. 4:15).

Is recovery possible? With God all things are possible (Matt. 19:26). Yes, He wants to bring healing to you (Jer. 17:14).

How can I be healed? Trust God to be faithful to His Word (Ps. 18:25).

Where do I begin? God hears you— confess your hurt (Ps. 34:17, 18). Give your hurt to Him (1 Pet. 5:7). Forgive the one who has grieved you (Col. 3:13).

Isn't forgiveness difficult? Yes, but what God commands you to do, He will equip you to do (1 Thess. 5:24). Realize that God has forgiven you (Eph. 4:32). Recognize that forgiveness is not the same as reconciliation-the former is something you are called to do; the latter is something that requires the offender's repentance.

Then what do I do? Don't take revenge— God will deal with the violator (Rom. 12:19). Look ahead rather than being controlled by the past (Is. 43:18, 19). Look for the good that will come out of the bad (Rom. 8:28).

When will I heal? Healing of deep hurt takes time (Eccl. 3:3). It is a process of:

facing the harm (Ps. 51:6)

acknowledging your feelings (Eccl. 3:4-8)

applying God's truth from His Word (Ps. 107:20)

working with wise counselors and caring friends to deal with ongoing hurts

WELCOME TO MY BLOG! (master post)

Hello, I wanted to write a new introduction to my Tumblr blog! To start off -- hi, my name is Jazz! I am a Christian artist and illustrator. I occasionally design and market art products (like stickers and keychains), and really love writing and making comics!

Art Tag: #jazzleeillustrates (use this to filter out everything that isn't art!)

~ * ~ * ~ * ~

I have an online store, where I sell products like stickers, pins and keychains!

I also have a Discord server that is geared towards Christian artists and creatives! Everyone is welcome here, and it is a fun, wholesome community for sharing your talents!

COMMISSIONS: Open! (Check out my examples here! If you don't see what you have in mind, please contact me at jazzleeillustrates@gmail.com!)

ART TRADES: Open for mutuals! (If we have interacted before and are mutuals, feel free to hit me up for an art trade! I love to do them!)

Current Project(s):

Slices of Gremlin (tagged #slicesofgremlin) - a weekly web comic that is based on reality. The main character is my persona -- the gremlin! She is a little purple gal who is a bit mischievous and likes to have fun. My friends/family members often show up as other fantasy creatures. Usually the comics are light-hearted and funny or wholesome, but sometimes they occasionally delve into some deeper topics!

Upcoming Project(s):

Wellwishers (tagged #wellwisherscomic) - I plan to release this project as a comic! Right now, I am doing heavy development work, and I hope to begin releasing it (hopefully) before the year is over! This comic focuses on Vincent Abernathy and Witherspoon (of the clan Everblood) -- it is the misadventures of two best buddies, and it features redemption, broken families, and magical disasters that may or may not threaten the world as everyone knows it. Set in the 90's/very early 2000's, or the equivalent of it in their world (it is not Earth). The cast of characters is quite large, so I am slowly beginning to introduce them to the world! This project has been in the works since 2015.

...And more future projects that are in development!

Using motifs to create thematic depth.

Motifs are one of the most powerful tools a writer has for weaving deeper meaning into a story.

What Is a Motif?

A motif is a repeated element in your story that highlights a theme. While similar to symbols, motifs are more dynamic and can evolve as your characters and story progress.

Symbol: A single red rose representing love. Motif: Flowers appearing throughout the story to represent different aspects of relationships—love, decay, growth, and loss.

Why Use Motifs?

They deepen your story’s meaning. Motifs give your readers something to latch onto, creating a sense of unity.

They enhance immersion. Repeated elements help ground readers in your world.

Tips for Crafting Effective Motifs

1. Choose a Motif That Fits Your Story’s Themes

Ask yourself: What’s the central idea of my story? Your motif should subtly reinforce that idea.

Theme: Resilience in the face of hardship. Motif: Cracked glass—a recurring image of something that’s damaged but still functional, reflecting the characters’ inner strength.

2. Use Motifs to Reflect Character Growth

A well-designed motif can evolve alongside your characters, reflecting their arcs.

In the beginning, a character always wears a watch to represent their obsession with time and control. By the end, they stop wearing the watch, symbolizing their acceptance of life’s unpredictability.

3. Keep It Subtle (But Consistent)

A motif shouldn’t feel like a flashing neon sign. It should quietly enhance the story without overpowering it.

If your motif is rain, don’t make every scene a thunderstorm. Use it sparingly—maybe it rains during moments of emotional turmoil or reflection, creating a subconscious link for the reader.

4. Use Recurrence to Build Meaning

The more your motif appears, the more it will resonate with readers. The key is repetition with variation.

In a story about family bonds, food could serve as a motif.

Early on: A tense family dinner where no one speaks. Later: A shared meal where characters open up and reconnect.

5. Connect Motifs to Emotion

Motifs are most effective when they evoke a visceral reaction in the reader.

Motif: A recurring song. First appearance: A father sings it to his child. Later: The same child hums it as an adult, remembering their father’s love. Final scene: The song plays during the child’s wedding, tying past and present together.

Examples of Motifs in Action

Motif: Mirrors

Theme: Self-perception vs. reality. A character avoids mirrors at first, unable to face their reflection. They slowly start using mirrors to confront their flaws. The final moment shows them standing confidently before a mirror, accepting themselves.

Motif: Keys

Theme: Freedom and control. A character collects keys, searching for one that unlocks their past. They find an old, rusted key, which leads them to uncover family secrets. The motif shifts to symbolize freedom when they lock a door behind them, leaving their past behind.

Motif: Birds

Theme: Longing for freedom. Early scenes show a bird trapped in a cage, reflecting the protagonist’s feelings. Later, the bird is released, symbolizing a turning point in the character’s journey.

Motif: The Ocean

Theme: Emotional depth and uncertainty. Calm waters reflect peace in the protagonist’s life. Stormy seas mirror moments of inner conflict.

Practical Exercise

1. Identify your story’s central theme.

2. Brainstorm objects, actions, or images that resonate with that theme.

3. Introduce the motif subtly early on.

4. Repeat it with variation, tying it to key emotional moments.

5. Bring it full circle by the end, letting the motif reinforce the resolution.

shipping characters who are just friends in canon is more than okay but what’s annoying is when people take screenshots of them touching and say “friends don’t do that!”. i hate to break it to you but friends do hug and hold hands and cuddle. saying ‘friends don’t do that’ is reenforcing the idea that physical touch is reserved for lovers

They are the best friends forever. 😔💖 That feeling when two people who have never had a real, lasting friendship form an unbreakable bond. These guys are my original characters Vincent and Witherspoon, from my project Wellwishers!

Have a bonus doodle of them in Animal Crossing style, too.

see, to write a Christian work, no matter how far down into the darkness you go, you've got to see the glimmer of light. it has to be there, even if it's ignored or not followed for however long.

Bat appreciation post, because I needed the draw the first guy’s dumb little smile and it went on from there.

The first two are little brown bats and the last one, I believe, is a baby hognosed bat.
