I’m really starting to enjoy sketching up whole sheets of horses.

I completely forgot she existed tbh… and I also forgot how awesome her hair is!!!

I realized that I suck at whole body poses so I decided to revert back to my go to skill when all is lost and drew a few face profiles, along with this poorly attempted full body sketch. I think it’s safe to say that I enjoy drawing her face lol (˵ ¬ᴗ¬˵)

Also, my pencil decided to be a pill and kept causing me to draw thicker lines then intended. (I’m telling you, that thing has a mind of it’s own!)

I actually have a few favourite horse breeds. Before, my dream horse was a Morgan/Canadian cross, however now I would much rather have a team of beautiful Norikers.

I would say my favourite horse breeds are, the Noriker:

The American Saddlebred:

And the Morgan. I don’t have any sketches of a Morgan at the moment. Since they tend to have many different coat colors, I guess you could say the dappled grey Saddlebred could also be a Morgan or Morgan cross.

A horse I would very much love to have would be a Morgan Noriker cross. ദ്ദി ˉ͈̀꒳ˉ͈́ )✧

I haven’t yet clarified who this character is. I think I might introduce her to this blog soon. She is a work in progress and so is the horse she rides.

I had lots of fun sketching these up! The OC is very pretty and I found her hair my favourite part to draw.

Something that will help a lot is practicing drawing one part of a horse. Starting with simple head studies is a good example and may help to build confidence. By breaking a horses body down into shapes, it becomes easier to understand and ‘copy’ the shapes and lines.

One thing I get used to get stuck on all the time was added too much detail. Now, I only draw what is most prominent for a horse, ignoring all those tiny, unnecessary details.

Drawing in the manga-like style is about simplicity to a point. It is not called realism for a reason! (˵ ¬ᴗ¬˵) The goal is to be able to draw the same character over and over again efficiently and with less stress to the artist. The same can be said for drawing horses, in a way.

I hope that this helps. If anyone has any questions, I will try my best to answer them!

I have been asked to make a small tutorial on how I draw horses. I taught myself slowly using what I thought was what you were supposed to do, so if it seems ‘unconventional’, that’s probably why.

First step:

I begin by looking at my page or reference (if I am using one). If I am not using a strict reference, I like to imagine what the horse on the paper is going to be doing. Once I have envisioned what I would like to draw, I begin with the three circles concept.

I don’t fully remember where I heard of this, but it has stuck with me for a long time. Basically, I am drawing three circles to represent the body of the horse. The first circle is the shoulder and chest of the horse. The middle one is the belly/back of it connecting the back and front end together. And the last circle is basically the buttocks of the horse, the thighs, if you will.

After drawing said circles, I move on to the legs, neck and head. It’s hard for me to stay on one step, because I tend to jump around.

It is important to note that having a horse anatomy chart on hand is extremely useful! Especially if it is one showing the muscles. Circle 1 in this photo shows the area of the front leg which I believe is called the elbow joint. I draw a sort of upside down v to represent this joint (or whatever it’s called).

Circle 2 shows where I have drawn a line to better define the muscle and the bone that connects the head and shoulders.

Circle 3 shows the line I drew to define the muscle on the butt/thigh.

If you examine a horse, you will notice that they have many “lines” which define the different muscles/bones. Once you single these lines out, it will be easier to draw the horse because you are not focusing on all the tiny lines and details. The way I view a horse I want to draw, is by looking at it simpler. I only put to paper the basic lines and shapes I see, then add any details I think would make it look better.

Horse legs are very tricky. I believe the legs can either make or break the sketch. If they are out of proportion, it doesn’t matter how well the body is drawn, it still looks like trash.

In order to avoid out of proportion legs, I like to gage the distance between the ground and the horses hooves.

I estimate the length I want it to be, rough sketch the hooves, then “cut” the leg in half by inserting the joint. It should be roughly in the middle. When I look at a horses leg, I see an almost funnelled shape. It starts out wide at the top and thins out until it gets to the hoof.

The back legs are kind of tricky to draw. Actually, they’re very tricky.

I kept seeing chart things like this and decided to try it myself. Honestly, it was really tempting to put Akutagawa on all of them…

I actually have quite a few current favourites, but I decided to go with Vaati because I don’t draw his Hylian form nearly as much as I would like. ദ്ദി ˉ͈̀꒳ˉ͈́ )✧

If you can’t tell already, I love horses with a burning passion (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶)

I’m really enjoying using this new blending stick I got from a friend. It’s literally just a piece of thick paper rolled into a pencil shape, but it works so well!

I did use references for these sketches.

I like to imagine Ivan loves to horseback ride on big drafts in the winter time. Maybe he goes bareback sometimes? Who knows.

He seems a bit short on top of that horse but, oh well.

I normally will be looking at multiple photos of horses as well as a horse anatomy chart while sketching. This time, I decided to try going from memory. It’s better then it was a few months ago….

4. Twilight Princess Link and Midna

This is now the second time I have drawn Midna. Ever. She is really difficult to draw, mostly because of her crown thing. The first time I tried drawing her (which was years ago) I horribly butchered her face, eyes and helmet. After that first failed attempt, I decided to simply never try drawing her (ᵕ—ᴗ—)

However, this time around proved to be a bit easier, mostly because I figured I would go for simplicity instead of trying to sketch every detail of the helmet. I can’t understand how the mangakas of the TP manga were able to draw it in the detail they did through an entire series.

Overall, I am pretty pleased with the outcome! ദ്ദി ˉ͈̀꒳ˉ͈́ )✧

I also decided that I do NOT like drawing fish people! (Or Zoras, or whatever you call them…) But, I do believe that if you want to become a better artist, you should at least try to draw unfamiliar things. ദ്ദി ˉ͈̀꒳ˉ͈́ )✧

I do have quite a few favourite characters, however, I tried drawing them today and my art was… well, it wasn’t arting properly lol

I tried really hard but gave up to draw her eyes and hair correctly. The puffy sleeves of her dress are so hard for some reason! I’ve actually never drawn Seychelles before, but this was kind of fun. I’m actually pretty pleased with how her normal version’s face turned out. ( • ̀ω•́ )✧

This is actually the initial first sketch I did. I was going to draw her normal counterpart beside this, but the part of my brain in charge of figuring out proportions didn’t really want to work… ┐(￣ヘ￣)┌

Denmark’s hair is quite tricky to draw! I actually haven’t drawn Denmark or Sweden before. Although, Sweden looks a bit strange without his glasses. (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶) I actually forgot how much I love drawing Hetalia characters!

I wanna see how you draw Ezlo (I was the one who put the pictures of what I drew and had no idea the name of the silly hat thing until people started commenting Ezlo). Maybe add Link, too?? Idk,. Up to you if you wanna add Link, I can't draw people well so I just stuck to the hat.

I don’t draw Ezlo quite as much as I would like, so this was a nice opportunity. Technically, Ezlo isn’t a hat. He’s actually a Picori. I like to draw him occasionally as both a hat and a Picori.
