I really liked Mouthwashing’s whole story arc between Anya and Curly with the whole [redacted] debacle, so I decided to take a piece from my childhood religion and doodle a little thing with them!
Reference under the cut!
Mirror mirror why do you show
The train that can’t be coming that slow
I feel the rumbling under my feet, in my bones and in my teeth
Mirror mirror why do you lie
Showing me a girl when I can’t fly
I feel the ache, the tears and all I’ve ate
Mirror mirror why have you forsaken me
Why don’t you show me what I could see
I see your cracks and blood and flack
Mirror mirror what have you done
What can I do to make us one
I see them here, dead and free
Why do I see them in your face, but only death stares in my place
Hi! Op Loki here in the explain-inator! Welcome those who are curious enough to step foot into the ‘keep reading’ box! I suffer from insomnia and occasional hallucinations during said insomnia episodes, which often can be somewhat useful in helping me pinpoint which part of my mental state caused this little bout of insomnia. Recently (for when I wrote this) I’ve been suffering from bodily autonomy issues due to my education’s strict policies and many people demanding my time and effort for their own conveniences. I usually have a hard time saying no to these people because they’re usually closer to me, and it got to the point where it was like ‘hold on a minute, this is *deadname*, not Legion/Loki’. When I thought about myself. And, well, the hallucination wanted to highlight the unstoppable passage of time, my autonomy issues, and the inherent dysphoria that comes with being LGBT in general. And, to do that, it chose time, mirrors, and vampires. But who am I to question- would this be Apollo? Thanks, Apollo, ik I’m still new to worship, but this helped. A lot. And Ares, for giving me the strength to fight.
I needed to draw this headcannon about my favorite joke from the entire franchise.
Also, I want to see little Shadow and Maria just being little gremlin children.
bonus
Just some lil guys I drew during a lecture.

Jake pushed his hat up with his thumb, pulling a low drag from the cigarette perched between his pinky and ring finger as he did so. Cold air rushed into the tiny cab as he rolled the window down to blow the smoke out into the environment, another drag pulled from the cig almost immediately after. His interest had been piqued, so he let the engine stall even as the light turned green. No one was on this damned street either way.
A kid stood across the road. Well, not a child-kid, very much an adult, but he seemed younger than Jake himself. A beanie had been nestled on his head and a scarf tossed around his shoulders, both barely warm enough with the threadbare jacket around him and the old gloves on his hands. Light illuminated the kid’s face from a caller that’d been left to the final ring twice now.
Whoever was on that line was gonna be pissed when the call finally went through. Jake grinned at the thought. Another drag, another blast of cold air from the window. It was a wonder the kid hadn’t seen or heard him yet. Another drag, another blast of cold air from the window. One thought per breath, he was getting dull. Marc would probably be suspicious of how much the meat suit’s lungs would ache in the morning, but that wasn’t his problem. Another drag, another blast of cold air from the window. The kid moved.
That call had apparently finally been picked up. The kid had pressed the phone to his ear, looking nervous as he mainly listened to whoever was on the other side with the occasional comment. Another drag, no blast of cold air. As the kid shivered, the cigarette sizzled out. Jake had been done with it anyway. That guy was much more interesting.
A thin lump around the middle finger of his right hand in the glove indicated a ring, the only one on either hand. A promise ring, most likely, implying a partner. The kid’s nervous demeanor made Jake think that he didn’t have a great partner, either from going through a rough patch or just a jerk lover in general. With a relationship like that, the partner would probably be hounding this kid like a dog on an arsehole. No visible work attire, probably on vacation or just immigrated. With how scolded the kid looked, it was likely an impulsive decision that his partner hadn’t even had the chance to pick up on before he was gone.
Jake grinned. Another cigarette was tapped from the carton and balanced between his teeth. The thing lit, and his engine revved as he sped off through the newly-red light.
Steven would like that one.

I continue my dive into the rabbit hole of Ares affection. Now, it landed on Sparta. I find it ironic that Ares is disliked so much. When you see Sparta represented in most media, it's horrific. It's where people go to be slaughtered and it probably was for some. I'm not challenging that, but there's more.
Sparta was one of the few cities where women could own their own land, go around the city, talk with others, etc. They even competed in sports. It was to the point where other Greeks looked down on Spartan women because that seemed too "improper" compared to the other groups who'd just stay silently inside their homes. They could dress more like how they wanted, a Spartan woman was the first woman to win gold in the Olympics, and there was even formal education allowed which taught them common subjects as well as about war. On top of this, let's talk about marriage. The age for that was 18 and 20 fof women and men, respectively, in a time when girls could get married off at 14 to men twice their age. I also think it's no small point that Ares is one of the few gods who I haven't found any assault incidents on.
But then, I am reminded of the time period and how something as simple as a woman showing ankle could be considered savage in some places. So, it's all starting to make more sense how the immortal associated with such a place of "debauchery" would be considered savage as well.
So, long story short, I wish more Spartans joined the "writing Greek mythology" party because I would love to see some old tales about Ares being a pretty cool guy.
