I think thereās two reasons Daniel in 1973 had such a strong reaction regarding Louisās view of vampirism and his story (aside from being a twenty year old know it all). One was that he identified with Claudia moreāand saw the part where Louis left off at in the story as hopeful, and two he connected vampirism in Louisā story with the ability to express queerness and be safe.
For the Claudia thingāthey just had more in common at that point. Daniel gets choosing to explore and look for knowledgeāhe does not read as someone whoās really been in love before at twentyāat least not with a āhandsome devilā and heās not a parent. Itās also likely that after only two years out of high school Louis being ādeclared deadā by his family wouldnāt hit as hard.
When identifying more with Claudia at that point in the storyāthereās much more hope there than identifying with Louis. I especially think Claudia going to Europe to find vampires and answers would have appealed to him. I wouldnāt be surprised if āget off the benchā meant āgo with her.ā
Sheās getting answers! Exploring! Leaving her awful maker! Plus as far as Daniel knows Louis could be using past tense because they never made up or reunited or because she passed awayāand even if she did die she might have achieved her curiosity seeking dreams soāworth it maybe! At least to Daniel! Vampirism is less inherently tragic at this point than after the trial. Itās hopeful not hopeless.
On the other side thereās also Daniel, a young queer person in 1973, who only feels safe acting queer and participating in queerness with drugs as a barrierāan excuseāmeeting Louis with the beautiful long term boyfriend, and the one night stands in apartments, and the ex heās still hung up onācomfortable and safe because heās a vampire.
What Daniel got out of his story, the meaning he didnāt think Louis saw was life, life, and more life. Plus safety to live as you want to live. Louis breaches social norms along side becoming a vampire. He creates his mixed queer family post-vampire turning. The vampirism and the non-conformity seem linked.
Heās also so comfortable bringing boys backāeven asking his boyfriend if he wants to join in! The countercultural, the ability to have, messy, yes, but also many queer relationships! Starting in 1910ās New Orleans with vampirism!
Louis ended the story with Claudia hopeful and leaving on the traināthe worst part was his exāand abusive exes are present in human lives too! You can recover! Get off the bench! The central tragedy haunting Louis narrative wasnāt explained to Daniel by that point.
Daniel saw Louis living like a mortal except for the safety to be himself in it and thatās why he wanted it!!! To be able to hide and the ability to kill any mortal who might object to you doing what you want to do!!! No need to hide behind substances to be yourself!!! Vampirism as life but more, but better!!!
Do yall think Louis shames Armand for being an iPad baby? Armand reading a book on his iPad and Louis will be like āI like to hold a real book. I love the smell of old books and flipping the pages with my fingersā. But truth is he never learned. He needs Armand or Rashid to google things for him and remember his passwords
I need to see Louis hold a phone or iPad next season to prove me wrong
The use of both Hosea and Dutch call Arthur their "boy" or "son" is something I've been thinking about a lot recently...
Hosea uses it as a reminder. Arthur is his boy through and through, and there never needs to be any questioning on that fact.
Dutch also uses it as a reminder, but for a different reason. He wants Arthur to remember that *he* was the one who plucked him off the streets and gave him a full belly and a place to call home. It's a reminder to Arthur of where his loyalties should lie.
Not saying that Dutch is entirely evil; in the earlier chapters I can see it being meaningful. But towards the end its clear, Arthur isn't his boy anymore. He is a tool that's starting to rust.
whenever i see iwtv fans get upset about people kinning characters or similar stuff, i remember how anne rice talked about lestat. like... watch some interviews with her, im literally begging you. i watched one for a class project, and she talks about how he basically wrote himself and how he spoke to her and told her how his story went, how basically no thought went into lestat's scenes like it did with other characters, he basically guided her. not to MENTION, i was today years old when i found out about her in-character facebook asks.
basically, chill. she was a lil crazy too
Sadie and Charles friendship headcannons bc they barely interact in the game and thatās a CRIME:
Charles carved her a little flower when she first came to camp. He didnāt say anything just a simple gift.
Sadie always goes up to Charles and tells him āI could take you in a fight.ā And he always just nods and says, āI know Mrs. Adler.ā
Sadie will complain about anything to Charles. Charles get into it too. One time Sadie was saying some awful shit Micah said and Charles literally gasped and said āThat bitch!ā
Sadie overheard Charles say that he forgot how to braid his hair, and so she got a couple of the girls together (Karen and Tilly especially) and they had a whole night of it.
One time Sadie was being harassed in a bar and Charles (canāt handle his alcohol, has a temper, and respects women) kicked the guy square in the dick and screamed at him that no one talks to his friends that way.
They are both WAY too competitive. They once played FFF for 3 days STRAIGHT because neither one would accept a loss. Arthur eventually had to intervene.
Sadie calls Charles the most insane nicknames. āC Smitty,ā āCarls Smoth,ā and āMy guy Chuckyā being notable ones. No one else can call Charles a nickname.
the VA for dutch, benjamin byron davis, said something really interesting in that old AMA reddit thread - someone asked if dutch would have visited any of the graves of his dead gang members and he basically said āno, because it would just remind him of his mistakesā and i think that is essential to understanding why he ultimately left arthur on that cliff. i donāt think it was apathy and by that point, i donāt believe that dutch still thought arthur was the rat. even if only subconsciously, seeing arthur broken and near death was proof that he failed. at the end of the day, arthur was his boy, in a way that only applied to arthur and john. he raised them and i think he felt at least somewhat responsible for them. seeing arthur sick, dying, and brutalized by someone that dutch had let influence him to a great degree broke him. he is so ashamed he cannot bear to see his boy - his first boy - die because of him. being there for arthur in his last moments means apologizing and apologizing means admitting fault in some way.
itās this meme but instead of running to arthurās side heās running away from him
getting compliments from npcs on my horse is so satisfying; yes, I brush him before and after every ride, he gets endless pets and treats, I love him, Thank you for noticing <3
I find it funny that no matter who you ship Arthur with, some of the most popular ships are him with a dark haired absolute baddie. Iām a firm believer that Arthur is a sucker for dark haired women and/or men (whatever sexuality you believe he is)
⦠and an extra plus if theyāre either widows, in need of any sort of assistance or/and have no or a strained relationship with their immediate family.
I've been a third all my life. Not saying that to fight, just saying that it's true. I feel like I get to pick one thing for myself, and it's her. A weird white lady I met by happenstance.
Something that kills me about rdr1 is John's apparent feelings towards the Javier, Bill, and Dutch.
Javier, he is 50/50 with. He can kill him or turn him in alive. It's clear that he's still very hurt from what happened between them, but it's also apparent how he still cares deeply for him. He talks highly of him. Fondly, even, as Reyes puts it. When choosing to kill Javier, he sheds a tear before bitterly spitting on his body.
When killing Bill, John shows little to no remorse. Sure, he tries to settle things civilly to begin with, but after realizing that he has no other choice, he doesn't make a big fuss about it. He doesn't think twice about shooting Bill in the dirt and handing his body over.
Then there's Dutch.
After handing over Bill's body, John demands his family be returned home safe and sound, only for Agent Ross to remind him that he still needs to find Dutch. John doesn't want to. He was trying to get out of it. He was hoping that Ross would just forget about Dutch now that he's gotten Javier and Bill.
John and Dutch play this cat and mouse game over and over, chasing after each other, tormenting each other, shooting at each other, but never killing one another.
Then there's the final stand off.
John had the full opportunity to shoot Dutch where he stood on the edge of that cliff, but he didn't. He couldn't. Before him, he didn't see a monster. He saw the man who raised him. He saw a father.
In his hesitation, Dutch also had every advantage to turn this around and kill John. But he doesn't. He watched Arthur die. Hell, he killed Arthur. He killed his other son, and he knows it. It haunts him. He can't kill the other one, too. So instead, he kills himself.
After his fall, Ross comments on the fact that even after all this time, John still didn't have the guts to kill Dutch. He then takes John's gun and shoots Dutch's lifeless body to make it appear as if John had killed him. "Looks better in the papers," he says.
It's such a heartbreaking detail. They couldn't hurt each other up on Mount Hagen. They couldn't hurt each other in the end.
shoutout to daniel molloy for being horny not in spite of the horrors but because of them

fat trans people. you agree. reblog
okay but WHYYY is no one talking about louis and daniel WHYYYYYYYYYY is no one talking about the greatest grandpa4grandpa relationship known to man and i donāt even mean romantically i mean in the most basic human platonic level their relationship is FASCINATING.
like louis SAUGHT HIM OUT after FIFTY YEARS he FOUND HIS BOY, this horrible infant who DID NOT UNDERSTAND A THING HE TOLD HIM, who saw his raw, decades-old pain and wanted in on it, AND HE GOES BACK FOR HIM BECAUSE HE KNOWS HEāS CHANGED. he can understand now. he can help him find the truth.
and like, theyāre both absolutely terrified by each other because theyāre both uniquely skilled at getting under each otherās skin and finding that truth (and also because⦠louis could just up and eat daniel anytime but shhhhā¦) and itās because they UNDERSTAND EACH OTHER. louisās interviewing daniel as much as danielās interviewing him, just. pulling teeth from each otherās head, trying to pull out all the rot with such violence and cruelty (from both of them!! daniel is a cockwallop!!) but they want to help each other they CARE ABOUT EACH OTHER.
LIKE THIS????

We need to do the same level of "abandon this completely" to neil gaiman as we did (and should continue to do) to jkr. Im serious. If i catch you buying more sandman comics or a different good omens copy you dont need or more of the graveyard book or coraline i will lose it. The man is a rapist. Full stop, all caps RAPIST. He doesnt deserve more money. The pratchett estate wont die out if u stop buying good omens. Theres plenty of authors who probably write leagues better than him and arent evil predators. He needs to die penniless and obscure.
scientists wont tell you this! (because it's not true)
experts don't want you to know this! (because it's made up)
doctors HATE this one trick! (because it's dangerous and unhealthy)
if there is one thing i love about book Armand (and possibly show Armand but i need to see more evidence) it is that he is a petty little hater. he practices haterism as an olympic sport. Night Island was the architectural equivalent of standing by the wall at a party with your boyfriend while both of you look judgmentally over the rims of your drinks at the rest of the guests like "ew."
Armand really picked the worst guy to turn into a vampire and run away from.
