Terrors of Gotham

Chapter 3: High Enough

I remember when I was a child, my father was the clear example of what I would never be, alcohol and cigarettes seemed to be the most horrendous things, drugs were an atrocity. I thought about what would be the reasons why people would try those things, and whatever they were, I hoped I would never have them.

Memories, because in that alley, after stepping on the end of the cigarette to put it out, I took the syringe and the bottle of green stuff that Cheis offered me. Fear toxin, for many, deadly, for the Batfamily something like a poison, for me, a simple drug that little by little lost its effectiveness.

The first time I tried that stuff was in that same place, two months after meeting Angella, I woke up near Wayne Enterprises, but that didn't stop me from continuing to kill myself slowly, besides it seemed that the shadow liked to be subjected to that fear.

At that point what hurt the most was the needle piercing the skin, after that a shiver all over my body, and little by little the sensation of the muscles starting to loosen.

"Ven niña, let's go get some beers," said Cheis, taking the empty syringe from my hand to throw it to the ground and break it with the heel of the boot, then they put their arm over my shoulders making me start to walk with them.

For many, seeing a Gotham vigilante with the granddaughter of the richest man in the city would be strange, especially considering Cheis' reputation, but there came a point where rumors no longer mattered.

"You're only 18, I don't think they want to sell you anything," I complained, feeling lighter than before and with a smile on my face.

"It's Gotham, I'll find a place," answered my companion.

Of all my colleagues, Cheis was the one I trusted the most. I had met them shortly after founding the Warriors Society. I never offered them a spot, they just came to me and ordered me to put them on the team, the more shooters the better, to tell the truth. They were a living arsenal, they could handle any firearm and had taught me how to assemble and disassemble guns in record time.

They never offered me the drug, one day I simply saw them smoking something that was clearly not a simple cigarette and asked them to get me some, at first they refused but eventually agreed on the condition that I would only do it in their presence. Despite being only two years older than me, they were among the most mature people on the team. They were always on my side and the simple fact of letting them see my weaker side said a lot about that relationship.

"Will you tell me what's tormenting you, or will you make me read another book to find out," they asked, still hugging me, but this time with a look of concern.

"Admit it, Crime and Punishment was very good," I joked. That had been one of the books Bruce had forbidden me to read at the mansion, but Jason had about three copies in different languages in our apartment.

"What a man can't do, the devil does," they said, with a smile on his face, like someone who remembers a good joke, "Although I really liked the one by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, what was it called?

The quotes in the books were like our secret language, I would read it first, mark the most important phrases and then lend it to them, weeks later they would return it to me, with new phrases marked and we would discuss them in private. With each book, we seemed to understand each other better.

"No one writes to the Colonel," I answered, remembering one of the books that still remained in the bookcase of the old Hart house, "And in the meantime, what shall we eat?"

"Shit," we both shouted at the same time, quoting the end of the book. We squirmed with laughter and at one point had to stop to catch our breath.

Moments like those were the ones I treasured the most, and the ones I hoped my mind wouldn't twist or erase from my memory.

"Seriously, what's wrong with you," they asked again as we began to walk through the busy streets.

"I thought I had a boyfriend, but apparently not. There may be a spy or spies on my team. I need a rescue team to LexCorp and because of the spy thing I don't know who I can trust to go," I said quietly and as quickly as I could, hoping no one had to hear.

"Pretty much, then. Well, how about a beer, tomorrow we all go to that taco place I recommended and then we worry about the rest," they suggested.

"The problem is that the more time passes, the more information they will take from us and the easier it will be for them to destroy us," I needed someone to finally understand my reasons behind everything I was doing.

"Your friend outside can't help us?"

"I don't want to torment her with all this."

"If you really are that close friend she will understand, and honestly I don't think you are paranoid, I too have noticed a strange attitude in some for a few months now. My recommendation, train a team with people to whom you can entrust your life, with whom you don't have to talk to understand each other, that team will discover the spy and his allies, and if you want, among them can be your mysterious friend," they said, bringing me closer to them so I could listen to them better.

"Would you join that team if I asked you to?" I asked after a few minutes of walking in silence, still under their grip as they seemed unwilling to let me go. So far they seemed to be the most suitable person for the job.

"We'll have to be more than two, princess," they said, stopping in front of a liquor store, of which I had no idea it was there.

"Please don't call me that," I said, running my hand over my face in embarrassment, finally I was released to enter the establishment, "And what are we doing here? I thought we were just going for a beer," I asked, grabbing a bottle of brandy.

"Mike offered me 50 if I could get him a good tequila, I told him that 40 would be enough, but he said it was my pay for the effort. But you need it more than he does," they explained, strolling down the aisles of whiskey and wine.

"So are you planning to steal two bottles of tequila, or pay for one and steal the other?" I asked, picking up another bottle and reading the alcohol content on its label.

"I was actually thinking of letting you pay...but I don't think you brought more than 10, so I'll ask them to put it on my tab and I'll come to pay early tomorrow morning," Cheis replied when they finally found the area they had been looking for since the entrance.

"Don't you think it's strange that this place is open at this time of night?" I asked, putting my hands in the pockets of my sweatshirt.

"These people open and close when they feel like it, neither the government nor the police is going to be telling them what to do. Besides, they earn well, in these areas there are drunks las 24 horas los 365 dias and they don't ask for identification," they said smiling, as they picked up two bottles to check them in detail.

"How long have you known this place?" I continued, looking around. At the back, there was a cashier, next to a young man who seemed to be counting the money in the cash register. There were several mirrors that served as security cameras. It was a big place, with several aisles and hanging cold white lights.

"About a year ago, but I almost never buy, there are always drunks at the entrance who won't let me in," they explained, examining another bottle on the shelf. "These two will be fine, the sodas and beers we can steal," they said, turning to look at me to wink at me and head for the cash register.

After paying, or something similar since apparently, the young man recognized not only Bruce Wayne's granddaughter but also the vigilante Cheis, we headed back out to the street.

"Hey, not to worry you anymore, but I can't put up with this much longer," they began to say when we had already crossed a few streets towards the real park, "If there is a spy, he will try to get very close to you and your family," Cheis said, and when they finished speaking we had already arrived at a small grocery store, perfect for buying beers and sodas.

"Why do you say that," I asked, entering the place to check first of all how many people were there and its security system.

"Alice confessed yesterday that she liked your brother and that she was really looking for something serious," I felt as if a bucket of cold water fell on my head, how was that possible?

I didn't wait any longer, the effect of the toxin was null in those moments and I needed to stop thinking about it once, losing consciousness for a few hours because the alcohol wouldn't be bad. I opened the refrigerator, took two lime sodas, while I indicated Cheis where there was a beer box. They took it and we ran out, but not before grabbing a pack of disposable cups, the place was actually totally empty, there wasn't even a vendor or security camera, anyone could have done the same thing.

The walk to the park took forever, I knew that Cheis' intentions were the best, I didn't know and I didn't want to think about what my reaction would have been if it was Persia herself who told me. All those talks that as a demigoddess she could not relate in that way with any mortal could go to hell.

When we arrived at the park we took a bench and started with the lightest thing, the beer, the carton had 12 bottles completely full, we divided them so that each one got 6. Although we were not one hundred percent prepared for this, Cheis' arsenal surely had something to open all the bottles, and if not, surely the bars of the bench would work.

"Salud, for life," said Cheis, clinking his bottle and mine.

"Salud," I replied, before taking a good swig. I had never really been a fan of alcohol, the raspor in my throat was the worst, and every time I took a bottle I remembered Roy's threats, saying that the last thing he wanted was for me to end up like him. I tried to quit once, but I missed the light feeling it gave me, the problems slipped away, my mind thought of nothing.

Three bottles of beer later and our true selves were beginning to show, we laughed at everything and everyone, we brought out every rudeness, on one of those we even played music on my cell phone to lighten the mood. Someday we will regret that but not for the moment, we were still young and, in my case, life was only enjoyed twice.

The beer bottles were completely ignored at three in the morning when Cheis opened the tequila and started pouring.

Again, we toasted.

"Salud, to this horrendous city," he said, already slurring his words as his free hand pointed at the huge buildings surrounding us.

"Salud, because one day this pigsty will respect us," I replied, almost in the same tone, and then began to laugh.

Chapter 7: Scorpion and Poison

James paid for the next 4 beers. But he did have to go downstairs to act the hero and ask for them for free, saying they were for Batman, it didn't work out well, he couldn't get away with it and had to pay for them. When he returned to the rooftop he gave us each a can, although I didn't even open it and just gave them to him for a draw.

"... And then Roy told me I was an idiot and.... and...What was he saying?" Jason was saying, taking sip after sip of his can, as he told us about his latest great feat with his team. A great feat that no matter how hard he tried, he never managed to finish.

Apparently, the only interesting thing that happened with Nightwing and Pandora was a speeding driver, so I invited them to hang out on that rooftop too, a family reunion more than anything else, but they still weren't there.

"Wow, wow. I thought I'd run into one little bird today, but not four." Said someone behind me in a voice I knew all too well. A spider web stuck to me juicy and was snatched out of my hand.

"I didn't think I wouldn't step on a spider but look at us." Said James, getting up to go say hello to Poison.

"My juice," I sobbed, still in the same position. "This time I did pay for it."

Jared Barrera, like me, grew up in the orphanage, watching our backs. He, too, had gotten his powers from genetic experiments. He was a big fan of a comic book character who had spider powers. Even with that, he had great skills in acupuncture, which explained those knitting needle-like weapons. A skill that served him well being on a team like ours.

James and Jared greeted each other, like the great friends they were, and agreed that the next round of beers would be on Jason.

"I'm supposed to be in charge of you guys, not that I'm buying for you," Jason complained, also getting up to greet the newcomer.

"Bosses, I'm here." Jared greeted me from afar, as I was still sitting, sending the shadow to steal another juice. Assana just turned and waved to him. "Scorpion told me he was going to pick them up to go out drinking somewhere, but I think something happened because it's already late." He said to James, looking at the imaginary watch on his wrist.

"James was just planning to call you for that," I spoke after standing up and giving my newly arrived friend a nice greeting. "Now not only do you owe me $100, but you also owe me a juice.

We all sat on the floor waiting for Batman to give us the signal to leave, or for Nightwing to design to answer the calls. We listened to some anecdotes of Red Hood and the Outlaws, marveling at each half-told tale, a story could never end well. At one point James began to recount some of the missions he had had with Scorpion and Superboy, a temporary member who helped out on some missions.

After two o'clock in the morning, another hero joined our little gathering.

"Ladies, gentlemen, and esteemed non-binaries, these are the heroes who guard our city." Announced Oswald when he arrived at my side, snatching the juice that Jared had given me.

-Seriously you guys aren't even going to let me finish a juice. - I said as I looked for an empty can to throw at the newcomer.

Oswald Queen was for many years a secret assistant to Green Arrow focusing on helping him with strategies and locations, he never went out to the battlefield. There came a point when he got fed up with that anonymity and began to support Arsenal and, later, supported the Teen Titans. But it wasn't until the creation of Major Arcana and the Justice League's intervention in the team that he was free to go out on patrol and got the recognition he deserved, was even officially adopted by Oliver Queen and began to be known at some social events.

Although he doesn't have a metagene or any extraordinary skills, he has a special talent with the bow and in hand-to-hand fighting, but there were obviously people who outshone him in marksmanship

"At least tell me you stole a drink from James." Oswald pleaded, I simply shook my head in denial. "Spoilsport." He criticized, then turned to my other companions. "Did they leave me something?" He questioned, starting to look for a new can.

"Yes, we kept the garbage. Go throw it away," said Assana, passing him two empty cans and pointing with her head to the garbage can on the avenue we were supposed to be watching.

"Don't be like that, at least invite him a can." Jason scolded him, passing a can to my brother so he could give it to the newcomer.

"Thank you, Mr. Todd." He thanked him, once he had a new can in hand. "But I was just coming to tell your daughter that we have a huge problem."

I don't know why I always remember those moments... Am I still afraid of having a couple? Am I sacred of telling them I'm demi or asexual? Am I actually sacred of even thinking about having a couple?

I don't know, I only only want to erase those moments. I want to give me a chance or the person that likes me. But im scared that those things can happen again, even with totally different people.

I don't know why I have the luck that every person I get to have genuine interest in ends up being shit at the end.

I'm scared to like someone because they might end like the others.

Why am I scared of someone having a crush on me? What is it impossible for me to believe that something like that can happen?

Why am I scared of even thinking about a kiss? There's nothing wrong with it, but why am I scared?

A little poem, or brain dump poem, that one of my friends wrote and gave me authorization to publish here

Strange

My neighbors have been doing very strange things. They keep walking an steeping on the grass of my front garden. Their little kid keeps hitting my window with his ball. But the must strenge is that very early in the morning it sound like their are repairing. And very late in the night, like 12 or 1 am, their are talking very loud. As the houses share a wall, I can here everything.

Also, in recent days every small noise makes me jump.

I really need to calm down

Chapter 26: What A Bullet Destroys

Olive

My life has always been a sham. I am a simple replacement. An android, or at least half of my body, designed to destroy beings equal or more powerful than Shade herself.

Jane Todd came to me, saving me from the suffering caused by my creator, Lex Luthor, promising me a better life. Promising me to find my family and if not, the chance to be a part of hers. He came to me when everything around him seemed to be falling apart.

I arrived with the Wayne family a few months before Angella almost stuck a knife in their back.

Assana told me everything, including the plan they both had for Richard Grayson's supposed biological daughter to be accused of treason, not only against the Wayne family but also against Shade.

When I woke up the first time, I didn't know anything, where I was, or how things worked. I was human, but I knew nothing about humanity.

During that time, Jane trained me, teaching me to use the skills Luthor and my parents had accidentally given me. She lent me her clothes, accompanied me if I had nightmares, taught me how to use the sword, even taught me how to use the microwave. Before long I was on his level, ready to carry out the plan.

The supposed Angella Grayson was nothing more than a conspirator, using Eclipse for her own benefit and manipulating different members of her original team of heroes.

Shade, Eclipse, Cheis themself and Scorpion had a deep hatred for the traitors, treating them like scum for months until they found out who had put those ideas into their heads.

All those who had doubts were sent to missions in other cities, even to other countries, but when the threat grew, the traitors stayed day and night in a single district.

Nightmare, White Scarab, Red Sun, Velma, Percia, Alchemy. The greatest team of young superheroes, the Warriors Society, was disbanded. And what were they thinking?

Betray Assana Jernigan, heir to the enormous power of Shade, the most powerful person in this universe, capable of destroying entire planets just by thinking about it, who received the same training as Jane Hart, the girl who in seconds can make you puke your guts out.

The breaking point was when Assana, with the help of Malowe, Callan, and Jane, exposed the name of Angella's real father. Slade Wilson. The ability to read minds had taught her that this data must be in the back of her mind.

Even the world's greatest detective didn't see that coming. But that was obviously part of the plan. Shade gave her one of the worst punishments ever imagined, she would live, free, but she would be permanently erased from everyone's mind.

She begged for forgiveness, and Assana told her that she would let only two people remember her. For a moment, I thought she would choose Dick, but she didn't. She chose Jane and me. Assana, being the one who administered the punishment, couldn't forget her either.

The situation with Richard, having so many memories with Angella, would be different. His memories of his supposed daughter would be erased. He would not remember the main reason why Eclipse took me in or the fight Angella and I had and why in the future he would decide to make me his temporary companion. But after all, he took me in as if he had known me all my life.

When I arrived at the Manor and was left in Richard's care, I thought he would abandon me, but I was wrong. He taught me how to control my powers, he taught me how to cook the basics, he even taught me how to socialize.

Jane was the first person to show me trust, respect, honor. I consider her my best friend, my cousin, my sister, my partner. She showed me what it is to be human. And even though we obviously had some misunderstandings, we always managed to make up in no time. I owe everything to her. I even have so much respect for her that during the time Ric had amnesia, I gave the mantle of Nightwing to her while I infiltrated the court of the Owls.

Without Richard and Jane, I wouldn't have survived more than a week in Gotham.

I was thinking about all this as I arranged the chemicals we had taken on the shelf. Jane had not shown up for class, and most likely she was still talking to the principal, those conversations sometimes lasted for hours.

As I left the room I checked the notifications on my phone, to my surprise, Jane's messages abounded, explaining in a not so brief way her situation and begging me to find a way to get out of the school.

I had no choice but to escape through the school's emergency exits, even though Jane had already told me that Uncle Roy had already asked permission to take me out of the school. I ran to the classroom, grabbed my backpack, and retraced my steps back to the gym. I placed my artificial hand on the door to deactivate the cameras and alarms and finally got out.

I walked down one of the alleys so I could take off the annoying uniform and the necklace with Zatana's spell to cover my robotic parts and put on the suit I had designed with the help of my cousin.

When the location of Eclipse arrived on my phone, it had already started to rain, I had no problem the water would not reach the circuits easily, but I knew that if they continued fighting it would be much more difficult to finish the fight.

The message Jane sent me didn't say much, she was on the roof of a building, far from where I assumed she would be. Still, I decided not to ask questions and help her with whatever she was doing.

"He flies through the air with the greatest of ease, the daring young man on the flying trapeze," I began to sing as I swung between the buildings, just as my father had taught me.

Arriving near her location, I could make her out, her hair and clothes soaking wet, kneeling on the ground, and hugging herself. She was not alone.

In front of her, Genesis, Angella Wilson, was making her appearance again, without the costume we saw her in a few days ago.

I didn't wait any longer, I took out my spear and threw it against her, not to hurt her, but to make her notice my presence, it fell a few centimeters away from her, burying itself in the ground. And I covered the distance I needed to reach them under her watchful eye.

"What a nice meeting, isn't it?" Genesis asked, raising her foot to lift Jane's head with her tip so that they could look each other in the eye -although there is still someone missing," she said, dropping her foot back to the ground. At that moment I had the opportunity to pick up my spear again.

"Get away from her," I said, pointing the halberd at her throat.

"Why would I do that? You have no control over me," he said, with a huge smile on his face.

"Don't worry, Pandora. I'm fine, it was just a scratch," Jane said, trying to get up behind me. But from the sound of her voice, I could tell it wasn't just a scratch.

"How cute," Genesis joked, "What are you two planning to do against me," she asked.

And that was my cue to disappear the spear and throw a punch to her face. I didn't want to start a fight, I just wanted Jane to have time to get herself together so we could get out of there. Nor was it in my plan for Nightwing or Red Robin to show up there and ask us a thousand questions.

Between Angella and I, a fight started, although I clearly had an advantage, the rain didn't bother me as much as it did her.

"I don't feel like fighting with a cheap copy," said Genesis, standing on the edge of the roof, then turned to my cousin, "Let this be a lesson to you Eclipse," when she finished speaking, she let herself fall, but I didn't dare to find out if she had survived the fall. I ran to help Jane, who with the help of her shadow created support for her weight. When she looked up, not only did I see that she was about to start talking, but also that her eyes were completely black, and a deep wound in her abdomen was a bad omen.

"I don't want explanations now, I'll take you home and help you with the wound," I said, putting his arm around my shoulders to help them walk, "We're not far away, just... don't fall asleep.

We made our way to my Uncle Jason's apartment in total silence. We entered the building through one of the windows in the hallway on the floor where the residence was located. With the help of Jane's shadow, we opened the door.

When we walked in, we saw a shirtless Jason, wearing sweatpants and wet hair. But when he saw us enter, he quickly put his shirt back on and got up to help me with Jane, who was beginning to close her eyes.

"What happened to her?" he asked me, leading his daughter to the biggest couch in the living room.

"I don't know, they were already like that when I arrived," I told him, going to the kitchen to look for the first aid kit.

Jane, what do we do now?

Brain dump of today because I've been having a shitty week

Since some time ago, I've been feeling like my friends always ignore me, make fun of me, or try to get something from me (gifts, money, food, class notes, others stuff)

To set some examples: on Tuesday, one of them took a photo of me when i wasn't looking, edited it, and posted it online as a meme. On any other time, I would've laughed, but I was already in a bad mood, so when she told me, "Is it noticeable that I'm bored?" I couldn't even fake laugh and answered "Yes, and a lot" in the most annoyed voice I have ever heard from myself.

I was so mad at her for posting it. But j think it was a mistake from my part because I didn't telk her to stop, so I think she believes she didn't do anything wrong.

On Wednesday, I skipped classes so i could do son stuff at home. i didn't tell them I wasn't going until one of them (not the picture girl, the other one) asked if I was going, like an hour and a half after class started.

Yesterday, Thursday, they asked me to buy some stuff for a model we were going to photograph, but I didn't know what to buy. So I asked them before arriving at school. But they didn't answer, I kept asking until "message girl" told me "idk" so I answered, "I don't think they have that at the store, but I'll ask" I ended up buying a juice, a bottle of water and some chocolates. But j still was mad because they had already bought a juice and some cheetos. They haven't payed me, but meh.

A lot has happened, but i just needed to vent

Chapter 5: Blackbird

Night fell and with it came the criminals, the insane, and the sociopaths. That was the hour where we put on a mask, not just to hide our identities, and went out into the streets to do the job that the police couldn't do or weren't able to control. The first to go out were Batman and Robin along with Hakan, followed by Nightwing, Red Robin, and Pandora. Lastly, Red Hood, Shade, and me.

Pandora, Shade, Haken, and I were known to be part of a group of young heroes, then still unnamed. A small group of teenagers still in training that did not meet the qualifications to belong to the Teen Titans.

"Do you want to go on foot or on my motorcycle?" I asked Assana, while I passed my hand over my face to put on the visor that was part of my suit with the help of my shadow.

"With how bad you drive when there's traffic on the main avenues, I'd rather steal one of Batman's and drive myself," she answered as she fixed the short cape of the suit I had designed for her when she joined the second version of my team.

"See, I'm not the only one who drives badly," said Jason, arriving next to me with his trademark helmet in hand. "And unfortunately there are only two bikes here, one of the two will have to ride with me if you don't ride together."

"Okay, I'll go with you." As I answered, a huge mass of black smoke that I did not control appeared in front of us.

In a few seconds that smoke dissipated and, instead, a boy a little taller than me, with white skin and black hair appeared. He was wearing a very similar outfit to Jason's, only completely in black and with some silver details.

"I was unconsciously begging for you to show up," said my father, getting off the bike and turning it off for a moment. "I've been waiting for you since morning, what happened?" he came closer to where the three of us were.

His name was James Rhodes. My best friend during my time at the orphanage, my petty shoplifting buddy, and my soon-to-be brother. Jason was trying to adopt him, for reasons I still didn't understand. Whenever I asked him he would tell me it was because we were both very close, and other times he would tell me it was to protect him. Don't get me wrong, I really wanted Jason to adopt him, but there was something very strange.

He also had powers, very similar to mine, because he could transform into a black mass and move from one place to another, sometimes he could even transform into a raven or even a flock of those birds. His hero's name was due precisely to this ability. Blackbird.

And as the family that we were, he was also part of the team, specifically, he was one of the co-founders of that team.

"I wanted to come since last night because I knew Jane would be here, but I had to move up some homework I have to hand in on Monday," he replied as he hugged Jason. Of course, one of the few people with whom my father showed a little more affection was James.

"I forgot for a moment that you're a nerd," I said, trying to annoy him as I placed my dagger in my belt. I headed towards the bike I was supposed to drive, but arms around me stopped me.

"My pretty little sister." He said, lifting me up and pressing me tighter against his chest. "I missed you so much," he spoke again, still not letting go of me.

"We met on Thursday," I said, trying to pull away from the embrace, "Can you let me go," I asked and I knew what the answer was going to be.

"No."

"But we have to go."

"But your girlfriend can wait."

"She's not my girlfriend!" I said, with intense heat settling on my cheeks.

He finally released me, turning to Assana to greet her with much less physical contact.

"Chief, reporting for duty," James said, bowing.

"Yes, yes. Give me $10 and we're good." Assana said, holding out her hand.

"Hurry up or we'll leave you!" Jason shouted, almost starting the bike.

Chapter 1: The Warehouse

The south side of Gotham, where crime and international business came together. Plus the proximity to Black Gate meant that many people avoided living near the ports and let hero groups, like this one, settle in and keep a close eye on the arms trade.

The Warriors Society held its meetings on Mondays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays it was patrolling in the other sectors of the city and from the afternoons the teams were organized to keep everything in order and avoid intervening in Batman's affairs.

That day, Thursday, only 8 members of the then almost 20 were around the main table, with Jim directing the business to be transacted.

"I'd call the roll, but I'm too lazy," he said, tossing the sheets containing our names to the floor, "Next week is Casper's birthday, we'd give him the day off but...

"...But I have nothing to do that day, so, patrolling with my brothers?" interrupted Lightningale, trying to talk at average speed and not like he always talked to Mike or the League speedsters.

"We've got Bruce Wayne's granddaughter, and we're not even going to buy her a cake?" Jim asked after he pulled a paper clip out of one of the table drawers and threw it in my face, as a sign for me to settle my feet on the ground, although this time I was paying attention and the shadow stopped the small metal object and absorbed it.

"Thanks for ruining my plans, Bullock," I said, throwing the paper clip back at him.

Actually, it had all occurred to me in those few seconds. I had completely forgotten the date of that day. And with Casper's birthday came Jason's birthday. That month was all about spending money on gifts.

And with it came asking Grandpa for money, which was funny but I didn't like doing it. In the future, I would ask him to get me into his company in some small job to make good money.

"I'm sorry, now... I have three missions, one in Star City, one in Qurac, and one last one here," Jim continued, tossing the three folders on the table, a quick inspection of the table and starting to rule out options for the mission in Qurac.

Oswald, Casper, James, Henry, Sam, Alice, Jim and me. Bullock didn't like or find the missions in the field intriguing, preferring to stay behind the screen coordinating the missions. Henry was out of the question, he would probably be better off at Star, and with Oswald, who knew the city well and could keep him in his sights. Casper, James, Angie, and I, plus everyone who was missing, minus the team that was going to Lexcorp.

"I'm sure Arthur will ask for Qurac, and with him will obviously go Alice," Alice commented in front of me, playing with a stream of air in her hands.

"How are you so sure about that?" asked Sam, who for some time now has been even more attached to me and a thousand times more alert than before, maybe I should follow her example.

"Isn't it obvious?" asked Alice, leaving the little clean air in the area alone, making the papers on the floor fly around us, "Those two have something, and I'm sure they like each other.

The reaction of more than one was the same, turning to look at me with intrigue. By way of distraction and to avoid yelling at my friend I decided to pull out some of the shade and play as she was doing a few moments before.

"As long as the little romance doesn't interfere with our affairs," I said, answering the silent questions of my companions.

And with that Angie, Arthur and Alice were ruled out of the mission to the Qurac. The situation was only getting more stressful as time went on. I had to think things through clearly, look at things from every possible angle, and analyze the results.

"I suggest that Jane and the 3 warriors talk it over calmly and give me the members of each team for the next meeting, where I hope we will all be there," said Jim, probably noticing how overwhelmed I was by all of this.

The Warriors Society was a very large group, so from the beginning, it was divided into 4 teams, with a leader each called a Warrior. James, Oswald, and Sam were all capable enough to control their team on patrols and simple missions, but with new developments, it had become common to start breaking these teams up.

The meeting was adjourned as soon as the sun went down, shortly after Alice reminded us that the courtyard was no longer an available place for training.

We all got up with masks, visors, face shields, or weapons in hand and slowly made our way out the front door, some on foot and others on one of the motorcycles. For my part, I stood near one of the computer screens, pressing a couple of keys, a new window opened, showing the location of the rest of my colleagues who did not show up that day.

I quickly passed that information to the visor and left the warehouse, closing the door behind me. The harbor at that time of night seemed a quiet place. The sound of the water lapping against the boats could lull anyone to sleep. I walked slowly through the alleys until I came out onto one of the busy streets near the Fashion District.

Arriving at Wayne Manor this early in the night wasn't an idea I was too fond of, especially knowing who was staying that night, but I had nothing else to do, and postponing a problem wouldn't make it go away.

Walking slowly to the train tracks, watching the night sky for a moment I thought about what it would be like to disappear, to fake my death, and make everything I worked for these past few years go to waste. When I least noticed, I was already crossing the Robert Kane Bridge, from Gotham to Bristol. I had crossed almost the entire city in the blink of an eye. Before I knew it, the cape of the suit had transformed into a long coat, I was grateful for it, but I hoped no one had seen me do that.

If James decided to end his patrol early, we could get down to discussing the missions and who knows, ask Tim, who was also leading a team of heroes, for some advice.
