So with all the Oakie shenanigans, I have lost (much of) my anxiety around posting my art, including fanart and OCs. The floodgates have been opened XD
Today y’all get to see my silly little robot OC Lian, courtesy of me several months ago arbitrarily deciding that April 10 was her birthday (day she came online/was finished).
She’s young and kinda naive and has autism vibes and wants to learn and do All The Things. Her lesbian moms/creators are a robotics expert with autism and anxiety and an ex-military android with zero fear but Much Trauma, neither of whom have very good social skills, lol. So their kid doesn’t have good social skills either, but unlike her kinda isolated parents she’s very extroverted. Her mode of social interaction is based on my own, aka walking up to random people and being enthusiastically weird at them hoping someone will want to be your friend. (This is surprisingly effective in real life, for anyone wondering). To me she’s kind of like a fanchild for a story and characters that only exist in my own head, in that she’s not even part of the main story, but I wondered “what if these characters had a kid” and then the thought would not leave my brain.
The Fell Dragon Grima, the dark deity bent on eradicating humanity, the bringer of the zombie apocalypse, and a lot of fans’ blorbo.
When you first meet them in Fire Emblem Awakening, they’re the Big Bad villain with little actual characterization, but that didn’t stop the fandom from loving them, and they got more lore and characterization in DLC and other games in the franchise. There is soo much Murder Dragon Romanticization in the fandom and it seems to be running on sheer swag and charisma. It’s also true that canon is enough of a mess that you could make the case they’re much less evil than it seems… or maybe that’s the fandom talking. There are Tumblr folk who celebrate “Grimas” every year. Grima should absolutely be a Tumblr Sexyman: he’s the villain certain people love, dark and mysterious and eldritch and full of issues and trauma. The fan fiction this character has spawned includes some of my favorite fanworks.
Their (unwilling?) vessel is none other than the amnesiac player character Robin, who was born into an evil cult for the purpose of bringing their dark god back to life. Robin and Grima are so interconnected that the death of one means the death of the other (a great source of angst, at least until Robin is revived by the power of friendship). A lot of people headcanon that Grima and Robin are actually the same entity, and the varying interpretations of Grima and Robin and how they’re connected are such fun.
Grima is also:
-an artificial being whose creator tried to kill them
-a dragon monstrosity with six eyes and six wings that’s so huge the final battle is held on top of their back
-referred to with mostly he/him but kinda inconsistent pronouns in game, probably some genderfuckery here
-I headcanon Grima is Above Gender
-parent to a Very Traumatized child (or several)
-a GIGANTIC effing DRAGON with six eyes and six wings
-I keep wanting to add more but I can’t let my brain be consumed any further
I, uh, might do that… except I’d probably worry too much about the welfare of the bugs.
Me walking around with a “Free Bugs” T-shirt and when people ask I point out all the little guys around them and tell them which ones are introduced species that they can totally just grab off the street and keep as pets
walking around with a “Free Bugs” tshirt and cargo pants with a lot of very full pockets that are visibly writhing
WIBTA for running away with my soulless, potentially dangerous future self? [OCs]
[OOC: tw for fictional medical procedures without consent, fictional self-harm, implied mental health issues, implied ableism, child endangerment/potential child harm, souls being treated in a way that might be taken as religiously insensitive]
I (14F in human years) have been living with my older brother (equivalent of 25M) as a guardian, because we got interdimensionally lost together several years ago and have been trying to make lives for ourselves in the human world. It hasn’t been easy, but recently my successful future self (equivalent of 40sF) showed up and offered to help us out! She’s a scientific genius and is kinda stuck here in the past because her work on time travel didn’t go the way she hoped (maybe with her help I could do even better someday!)
But she also acts really creepy and weird, and I found out that it’s because she removed her own soul somehow? Apparently the procedure was one of her discoveries, and in her time it became some sort of therapy for emotional issues because it basically gets rid of all your emotions. She almost tried to do the same to me after I freaked out about it, but luckily I managed to convince her otherwise, and I’m pretty sure she’s started listening to me now and taking getting stuck in the past as a chance to make sure I don’t end up making the same mistakes she did. But my brother doesn’t trust her one bit and refuses to let me contact her anymore. I feel like I’m the only one she’s willing to listen to because she thinks a lot of herself (I mean, from how she tells it she made major breakthroughs in several scientific fields) and I’m basically the same person as far as she sees it. It feels like I’m the only one who can make sure she doesn’t do something that changes the world for the worse like she did in her timeline. So I’m thinking of working with her, but after the incident where she was going to take my soul, my brother thinks it’d be way too dangerous for me to contact her again because she might try to take my soul again or trick me into helping her with something bad. However, I think she’d listen to me like she did before, and I could learn so much from her, keep her from causing problems, and maybe change the world for the better with her help on technical stuff and knowing what not to do!
Would I (current me, I know future me is kind of an asshole but I don’t really blame her for it) be the asshole if I disobeyed my brother and ran away after my mad scientist future self?
I used this picrew to make images of some of my OCs :)
Dr. Kaye:
(She basically has two expressions: her usual fake smile and a totally blank/neutral expression that’s kind of the facial expression equivalent of an error screen, used when she’s confused or actually having emotions.)
KT:
(KT is cute and she knows it. She will use her adorableness to get what she wants.)
Ted Kaye:
(He’s perpetually exhausted and trying not to show it)
Bonus: Katherine Kaye as an exhausted college student
(She will deny that she was up all night studying and doing homework for the past 3 consecutive nights. She’s a straight-A student and she will insist she’s totally fine and not struggling with anything).
I’m not going to post something for everyone who liked or commented on Oakie posts after the polls closed today, but I will post two more pieces, because we had two more voters I haven’t mentioned yet. I am however doing this again for the finals, so you all can have your chance then!
Here’s what was supposed to be a quick sketch of Lucina from Fire Emblem Awakening. It kinda got away from me a bit. Thank you @sacredstones2004 :)
This one is a recent drawing (I did it because I was bored) of an old OC I made in high school. Adria Black, hailing from a world full of beings best summarized as vampire ghosts that only adolescents can see, hunted these monsters with her best friend Vivian… until dying and becoming one herself. She wanted to destroy herself, but Vivian wouldn’t accept that, and so now she acts as a spy of sorts. After all, few vampire-ghosts would expect one of their own to be working with a hunter. I hope you enjoy it, @lizardonatoadstool !
The fact that Mark Cuban can do this is just further proof of how much capatalism is f*cking people over.
Billionaire investor Mark Cuban launched an online pharmacy Thursday that offers more than 100 generic drugs at an affordable price with a goal of being “radically transparent” in its price negotiations with drug companies.
For example, the leukemia drug imatinib is priced at $47 a month on MCCPDC compared to the $9,657 retail price.
The online pharmacy’s prices for generics factor in a 15% margin on top of actual manufacturer prices and a $3 pharmacist fee, the statement said.
I love the disturbing implications/undertone of this cutesy little piece- is the cat dead? Undead? Have the innocent-looking flowers speedily absorbed the part of the cat’s body that is in the soil? Do the flowers lure their victims into being buried, lull them to sleep, then eat them? Alternatively, is the cat like a plant, and will regrow if you bury its bones in suitable soil? Or does the soil have some sort of property that makes everything but the bones transparent? Cube cat has become the source of some increasingly strange ideas

Wasps are great! Some social wasps can not only recognize individuals of their own species, they can recognize humans as well and “befriend” people!
I’ve had positive experiences with the yellowjackets that live around campus at my school- my school is full of insect lovers who are pretty chill about them, and I think they recognize that at least some of the humans around them are friendly, as they’ll often land on me or share a bite of my lunch, but have never stung me or been aggressive, and I haven’t heard anyone talk about them stinging people.
There are also lots of cool wasps outside of yellowjackets and hornets, many of which cannot sting. Some of them are ridiculously tiny- the smallest insect in the world is a type of fairy wasp smaller than some single-called parameciums and amoebas. (Wikipedia article here if you’re interested.) Wasps are incredibly diverse and beautiful, and we needn’t fear and loathe them because a few of them might sting.
[Image description from alt text: A photo of a small brown wasp pollinating a dandelion. Only part of the dandelion flower is visible, because it dwarfs the wasp in size. The wasp has faint, light stripes on its abdomen, bent antennae, and purplish eyes.]
I saw this posted on reddit to a wholesome memes sub, and it was full of nothing but people being unnecessarily awful on a post trying to spread information about why these creatures are beautiful and worthy of living. (Interesting note: They don't need a reason to be allowed to live.) I got sick of trying to correct people on there who were more interested in hating wasps than hearing the truth.
Honestly, it's just exhausting sometimes.

Cute cat doodle :)
Thank you @theoptimistictabby435 for supporting Oakie!

OMG. OP you have done something special for me: you reminded me of the name of the show I saw an episode of once at a friend’s house as a kid and really liked, but was thereafter never able to find again. Growing Up Creepie managed to speak so deeply to my bug-obsessed child self that fifteen-ish years later I still have some memory of the half episode I watched and I’m super excited right now. Like, I found it! I found that show I was half convinced I must have made up! I couldn’t pin down the specific episode I saw but aaaaa this is That Show skghjjhhg
I’m really curious as to what very short lived, premium channel series y’all remember if any.
Hi, we're the River System! Katlyn (she/they) and Jacob (he/him). Came for the fandoms, stayed for the off-the-wall and the cringe. 22, autistic (language abled and low support needs), Environmental Biology major. Actual Mad Scientists ;) [We do science and don't do sanity!] Mostly this is Katlyn obsessing over bugs and fandoms (Undertale, Hollow Knight, Little Nightmares, Fire Emblem: Awakening, RWBY, Arcane). Also may include photography, dark aesthetics, and general chaos from Jacob. (Cover photo by Sagar Patil on Unsplash)
