Sometimes little pleasures in life are loadbearing. Whenever someone is like "If you'd just give up tea and coffee and sugar and--" im like I'll stop you right there. Because if you finish that sentence i am going to kill everyone in this building and then myself. If i have to face the horrors of the world without my little jar of caramel flavoured instant coffee i am going to go full American Psycho. Believe it or not, my main priority in life is not to have perfect teeth or be an Olympic athlete or look like a supermodel, but to actually enjoy living, because I spent far too long not doing that and it royally sucked. And boy, some people don't like hearing that. Particularly dentists
gentle reminders:
đˇ sometimes, being kind to yourself is to study instead of procrastinating, even if it makes you feel uncomfortable - when the exams and deadlines approach, your anxiety wonât be so bad.
đ¸ sometimes, being kind to yourself is to log off everything, stop looking for the rush of validation - at the end of the day, you canât fill an empty mood with more emptiness.
⨠sometimes, being kind to yourself is to make yourself uncomfortable for a while. to get rid of habits that initially comfort you, but ultimately make you feel worse. all habits are uncomfortable to stop, but the rewards will be so satisfying, and so worth it !!
itâs not a myth. it gets easier. every bit of hard work is worth something. it builds you up.
Continuing to be warm and soft and open to the possibilities of life even when it seems hopeless and youâre heartbroken and soul sick does actually work btw. Like there will be love around you again and real recognizes real
accomplishments of the day: still alive, slept in, had dinner, did a lot of drawing, snacked
When youâre depressed, you grasp on to anything that can get you through the day. Thatâs what depression is, not sadness or tears. Itâs the overwhelming sense of numbness and the desire for anything that can help you make it from one day to the next.

the best advice i have for trying to figure out who you are outside of your mental illness is to try things. try anything that seems remotely interesting and try not to get too caught up in the consequences or whether youâre going to be good at it. of course, this is all within reason - donât do anything dangerous or illegal, but trying new hobbies and places and ideas is such a good way to find out what you like outside of festering in front of netflix and crying in the shower.
sing off key, or buy a cheap instrument. draw haphazardly. buy books youâve never heard of. go to a coffee shop and order a drink youâve never had. try out that recipe you keep seeing online. buy that shirt that catches your eye immediately.
mental illness often takes away who we are and we can lose so much of what makes us us. you may never return to who you were before your illness, but you can become a new person. someone strong and someone you like. trying new things is a good way to build the foundations of that person. keep your head up, youâll get there.
