Spoilers for REIGEN spinoff.

There is no narrative basis for what Teru is saying here. Shimazaki was winning the fight before he sensed Mob approaching. Shimazaki gauged the situation, determined he was outclassed, gave a flippant reason for surrendering, got spooked when Mob’s anger/powers flared, and teleported away. At no point do we see him showing any signs of being traumatized, contrite or having changed for the better.

Teru is absolutely projecting his own trauma from the ???% encounter onto Shimazaki. It’s obvious Teru sees his past self in Shimazaki when the man declared himself the world’s greatest after Toichiro, and we know Teru is talking specifically about Mob when he says “there are people in this world with powers you can’t even fathom”. 

Teru interpreted Shimazaki’s situation based on his personal experience, namely: person has delusions of grandeur –> encounters the nonpareil greatness that is Kageyama-kun –> sees the error of his ways. He’s “pretty sure” about his conclusion. He can’t imagine having any other kind of reaction after being the target of Kageyama-kun’s wrath.  

This is the second time in the anime we’ve heard Teru acknowledge the lasting negative effects of his encounter with ???% (the part about nightmares for three days and nights wasn’t in the manga). I think it’s moments like these that can add nuance to discussions surrounding Mob vs Teru Part 1- a fight and its aftermath whose comedic elements (the ochimusha, heel-face turn, wig) have already, though well-deservedly, been repeatedly explored. 

If you put them together they almost form one(1) functional adult.

recurring elements of ONE’s art style, from what i have gathered

most characters have unique eyes/eyebrows/eyelashes (even if they also have other distinguishing features)

small mouth (even when it’s open) (with exceptions)

ONE’s patented technique: the perfectly executed Tiny-Ass Grin. it’s impossible not to grin back.

black hair is usually solid black, no texture

lots of solid-fill black inking in general

chiaroscuro for dramatic effect, varying in degree from minor to intense (usually blocky, but sometimes shaded, and rarely both) 

higher tension = higher level of detail/shading (and the body improvement club is at max tension 90% of the time)

ONE’s art often emphasizes the dichotomy between simple and complex and uses it to reflect the complexity of a situation

thick, blunt lines are the default; as tension builds, the lines get scratchier. (very blunt or very scratchy lines may also be used for jokes)

you can tell that ONE is always challenging himself to draw faces, poses, and perspectives just as he envisions them, as needed to tell the story. keep on giving it your all, ONE-sensei!

here’s proof that serizawa’s new umbrella is supposed to be transparent (or at the very least translucent), btw. it’s a consistent detail in the manga and it’s obvious in every panel in this multi-page sequence. i only picked a few where i thought it was most obvious. it’s a great detail emblematic of serizawa’s growth. the umbrella is no longer a tool used to shelter or block out the rest of the world; he can see through it now and it ties in well with its use in this chapter as a tool to protect as opposed to attack.

aaaand here’s the preview pic for next week’s episode. solid white umbrella, just like his old one. i’m pretty pissed that the anime is doing this; maybe it was to save on the animation budget or something? i don’t know but i sure as hell don’t like it. so i’m speaking my truth as a transparent umbrella stan now. spread the word! let the truth be known!!!
