BSD Light Novel: Dazai Osamu and the Dark Era (Prologue, 1/3)

A few things to start off: I’m translating this from the Chinese novels to English. Chinese is my mother tongue while English is my first language. I’ve had formal education, but understandably some things are lost in translation from Japanese > Chinese > English. I’ll do my best to explain them, but please enjoy this with a teaspoon of salt. I try to keep to the original intent as much as English grammar will allow, but the gist is more or less there. For this part, I haven’t had much trouble other than one part, which I’ve added a postscript note for.

Please don’t hesitate to shoot me an ask if anything sounds wrong or looks weird! If anyone wants to proofread these for me I’d be eternally grateful. I’m doing these at my own pace, so if anyone wishes to help out just let me know, I’d be more than happy to join forces.

Brian: @xettsstuff , the meme-lord with the grunge aesthetic, also a hella good cook, another videogame-enthusiast, very much enjoys annoying other people in civ, does not approve of me conquering spain tho smh, also a pretty great dm, we always get him to the verge of complete desparation tho, very much enjoys Dark Souls, even tho it makes him rage most of the time

Dilan: @dilllonon , most wholesome person you will ever meet, u do something for her? She will thank you approximately 20 times for it, at least, the biggest cinnamon roll, but whenever you expect it least, she will make a word play, so bad, that you will suffer for at least 3 workdays (yes she will apologize for it afterwards, multiple times), also obsessed with ethics and philosophy, especially Kant

Vivien: if there is a Kink, she probably knows and, by chance also has it, very protective over her waifus, can also draw them like one of her french girls, very much enjoys space and astronomy (not astrology), very offended on a personal basis, as soon as someone confuses those two, also enjoys watching trash on either youtube or netflix late at night

Tom: looks like a cinnamon roll, is a cinnamon roll that could actually kill you, might stab you in the side (no, not with a knife) and won’t stop until u either stab him back strong and fast enough or ur laying on the ground, begging for him to stop, can T-pose you, because the probability is high, that he’s taller than you, is the semi-rich one of the group

Arthur: if people were adjectives, then he would be: lost, he has the talent, to always time his semi-stupid question unintentionally right, which either ends in other people suffering or other people laughing so hard, that they can’t breathe, he also has a very eloquent way of speaking, which mostly makes the whole situation even more hilarious and/or confusing for others

Ria: the extrovert, she has socialising 100 and doesn’t hesitate to just talk to random people, also a bit hyperactive, befriends random people in Valorant, but is too shy to actually meet them in real life, very enthusiastic about Videogames in general, but can only commit to them over a certain time, can actually draw and make it look aesthetic

And for sure he hears screaming, wailing, and all sorts of bad stuff - but what if, as the ghosts realize he can hear them (in the Burial Mounds timeline), they begin telling him various other things, such as:

"Wei Wuxian...... eat something....."

"Wei Wuxian....... too much wine......"

"Wei Wuxian........ go to sleep....."

"Wei Wuxian..... Hanguang-Jun wants to kiss you....."

I haven’t been on tumblr for quite as long as a lot of people but over several years I’ve noticed this interesting gradual sorta,, shift in the general culture? that it went from this mostly depressed, nihilistic outlook where people would regularly joke about hating themselves and being hopeless and depressed, to a wave of vehemence of “STOP hating everything actually the world is Good and you deserve love!!!” type posts, to now, where those aggressive ‘PSAs’ have faded away and instead I regularly see people romanticizing simple things like stars and hot tea and rainy mornings, and waxing poetic about their friends, and just trying to put love out there. and I don’t know exactly what that means (someone who knows more than me could probably say something smart about generational expression and trauma or popular perception of mental health and whatnot), but I do know that it makes my heart very full to see people learn to love the world and themselves by extension, and a whole userbase adopting healthier coping mechanisms, and therefore teaching the younger users to do so as well. I might just be following different people, but I really do think we’ve grown. everyone has grown. five years ago it wasn’t unusual for the next post on my dash to be a scathing commentary on why nothing matters or an anon ripping into someone they barely knew or someone complaining about how pathetic their interests are. now I have mutuals who get excited and spam reblog art of cows and friends I see tagging each other in pictures of frogs and strangers writing paragraphs about how much I matter. it makes me happy. idk. just an observation I wanted to make. I think people are good and everyone’s just trying their best at the end of the day
