As an alternative to 'sugar, spice, and everything nice'
I present: 'salt, vinegar, and everything sinister'
Impulsiveness : Acts on instinct without careful planning. Perfectionism : Sets unrealistically high standards, leading to self-criticism. Indecisiveness : Struggles to commit to decisions or choose a path. Arrogance : Overestimates one’s abilities and dismisses others. Pessimism : Habitually expects negative outcomes in most situations. Cynicism : Distrusts the motives and sincerity of others. Overconfidence : Places excessive faith in one’s skills, often underestimating risks. Stubbornness : Resists change and refuses to adapt to new ideas. Jealousy : Feels envious of others' success or possessions. Insecurity : Experiences frequent self-doubt and a lack of confidence. Procrastination : Tends to delay tasks, often leading to missed opportunities. Passivity : Avoids taking initiative and relies on others to act. Aggressiveness : Responds with hostility or force rather than reason. Selfishness : Prioritizes personal gain over the welfare of others. Fragility : Is overly sensitive to criticism and easily discouraged. Egotism : Constantly focuses on oneself and one’s own importance. Defensiveness : Quickly rejects or rationalizes away critique or new information. Manipulativeness : Exploits others to fulfill personal needs or desires. Recklessness : Shows a careless disregard for potential risks or consequences. Resentfulness : Holds lingering bitterness and grudges over perceived wrongs. Distractibility : Finds it hard to maintain focus amid competing interests. Impatience : Lacks the willingness to wait, often spoiling opportunities to learn. Perfunctory : Performs actions in a mechanical, uninspired manner. Self-Doubt : Consistently questions personal abilities and decisions. Arbitraryness : Makes decisions based on whim rather than reason or evidence. Rigidity : Is inflexible and unwilling to consider alternative viewpoints. Gullibility : Trusts too easily, often leading to being misled or deceived. Obsession : Becomes excessively fixated on particular ideas or details. Aloofness : Maintains emotional distance, appearing detached or indifferent. Intolerance : Refuses to accept differing perspectives or lifestyles.
Mix genres and time periods: Experiment by combining elements from different eras or genres to create unique settings and narratives.
Use "what if" scenarios: Pose unexpected questions (e.g., What if time travel operated on emotions rather than mechanics?) to spark novel ideas.
Draw from diverse mediums: Engage with art, music, or even scientific papers to inspire unexpected plot twists.
Embrace absurdity: Let illogical or surreal ideas guide you; sometimes the wildest thoughts lead to compelling stories.
Reverse clichés: Identify common tropes in your favorite genres and deliberately invert them to create fresh perspectives.
Incorporate personal anomalies: Transform your idiosyncrasies and personal struggles into rich, multi-dimensional characters.
Use mind-mapping: Visually plot your ideas in a freeform way to uncover hidden connections between disparate elements.
yep. This is a hyperfixatation. Please help me.
Im actually super proud of this. Might digitalize it + color it and make it my pfp. Or maybe keep it black and white. Who knows. Either way I love it.
three cheers for sweet revenge fanart... I think..?
Due to the fact I've been absolutely pumped for the "long live" concert ofc I've basically listened to every song and the chorus of "i never told you what I do for a living" is stuck in my head sooooo.... yeah.
Its not amazing, but I'm still proud of it.
Who are these people…
Did a bit more portrait practice. Decided after the viktor incident I would just lean into the arcane stuff.
Heres my reference photo! I think i got surprisingly close to the real thing. Wasn't expecting that.
Also, he needs chapstick so bad. Those lips are incredibly crusty
I was practicing drawing portraits and I was drawing some badass expression and I screwed ot up and she looked sickly, so I leaned into it, and i think I just accidentally drew viktor lol
yooo! Aconi time!
She uh... she got her face burned off.
Shes also really evil.
HOWEVER she's like a mother to the people under her. And like an absolute girl boss.
Shes also just a joy to draw.
Then we got laurel, the archivist. Because the court of the aconite values knowledge, she's very important.
Servia! Holy *shit* is she tall.
she also like. Sits in the dark corners of her library and spooks the crap out of people nearby.
devante. Probably the worst drawn, but look man, I tried. I was not in the mood.
The idea of justice in the court of the aconite isn't morality, but rather loyalty and brotherhood. An assassination is a good idea if you want to climb the ranks, but you have everyone against you in a heart beat.
Behold! Arani!
His name comes from the word arachnid. Cause like... spider... lily.
Hes like a true being of chaos and I love him for that. I even digitized him!
Then we got chari, the negotiator of the spider lily. I swear he's looks better in practice, I just didn't do him justice.
Here's his og design. I redid the clothes but the face is the same.
Then we got cethin, the treasurer.
He's the brother of chari, but they have a rivalry due to their difference in rank. Chari covers his left eye, which is an indicator of their bond.
All I got for them so far. But I mean, whatever. They're fun.
Next is my favorite in their dynamic! The court of the aconite.
im making them for a book concept and... God its getting out of hand. I gotta do a total of ... what, 25 of them?
Its a whole thing. Tell me if your interested in the full lore.
Ima show them off in waves! So first let's do the court of the cherry blossom:
First is vimal, the head member who represents purity within the council.
then we got those below him:
malum, the judge, who's name totally doesn't mean evil in Latin. He's probably the most plot relevant character.
kocai, the herald. (Ignore the thing on the bottom, I forgot to change it). She loves skinks and speaks in sort of a southern/aussie accent..? Accent or like just way of speaking. Kinda is a jerk to everyone, but a funny jerk. She means well.
then the last of the ones I have from the court of the cherry blossom is lehrer. Named after Tom lehrer, who fun fact, lehrer means teacher/teaching!
(I still need to make like, 3 more of these guys.)
Next post gonna be about the court of the spider lily, which is like the chaotic neutral guys
how do you do, fellow Creatives™
WHY ARE THEY SO SILLY
My first attempt at him:
I also drew the himbo angel:
I love them so much
Made with love, a random pencil, and a dollar store calligraphy pen.
Its.. it's just a stickbug samurai that my sibling wanted me to draw from their weird critter universe.
he looks like he's in a manga panel, and I love him dearly.
Edit: I added Japanese maple leaves to the background.
dostoyevsky was surely a master of nomenclature as well. i don't know if all editions include this, but my copy of crime and punishment (penguin) includes info on the names of the characters and their meanings. dosto's versatility is unbounded since even the names of characters match with their actions and character traits.
from raskolnikov's name, "raskolot" means to chop or split. "raskolnik" refers to religious schismatic. "razum" in razumikhin means intellect or reason. "zametit" from zametov's name means to observe. most importantly, sofya who is mentioned often as sonya, refers to wisdom.

there is an IMAGE in my HEAD and i cannot DRAW IT. hatred and rage.
Porfiry: I know what you did.
Raskolnikov: You don’t know anything about me.
Porfiry: I read your article.
Raskolnikov: What article?
Porfiry: You know which one.
Raskolnikov: I-
Poor Razumikhin, who just wanted to help his friend find his pawned off family watch:
raskolnikov just lying in bed for a week from anxiety and guilt and depression is the most relatable thing i've ever read. he would make a killing on depressed tiktok. bedrotting pioneer. this is before he's inevitably exposed for being a temperamental asshole and also a murderer lol
He really calls himself an athiest and then does all this stuff that's symbolic to things from the Bible.
He tells his bud to take care of his mom and sister because he probably won't be seeing them again, paralleling Christ telling John to take care of his mom when he was hanging on the cross.
He kisses Sonia's foot similar to Jesus washing the feet of his apostles.
He harrases Sonia into reading the story of Lazarus (seriously, he barged in and started putting her down, the jerk, then wouldn't leave till she read to him). While Lazarus died physically and was sepreated from his loved ones, Raskolnikov and Sonia have expierenced a spiritual death beacause of their sins. This point is accentuated when after she finishes reading, the book makes a comment about the harlot and the murderer, referring to Sofia and Raskolnikov. Then later they become seperated from their siblings when they go to Siberia like Lazarus was seperated from Mary and Martha.
There's probably more that I missed but those three really stuck out to me. He goes on about being an atheist and wanting to be in the same class as Napoleon but bro is acting like he's a martyr or something if he confesses to murdering 2 people who were minding their own business. Delusions of grandeur, indeed.
Crime and Punishment: Incorrect Quotes
I would never stop thinking about this novel. I never will. So here I bless you with some incorrect quotes that I wrote on our beloved characters! Hope you like it!
Porfiry, giving a whole damn monologue throughout the novel:
Raskolnikov, internally resisting the urge to not bring his axe out again: .. you're all good, Rodya. You're all good.
---------------------------
Raskolnikov, talking about Luzhin: I said, that I don't think that he's good for you!
Dunya: How do you know what's good for me?
Raskolnikov, in an outburst: That's my OPINION!
Dunya, shocked:
Pulcheria, confused:
Razumikhin: .. oh.
---------------------------
Raskolnikov: I might have to beat someone up just to get rid of all this blind fury.
Razumikhin: Oh, wow..
Raskolnikov: Now I feel pretty sorry for the next guy who looks at me funny.
Razumikhin: Hm.. what about that guy?
Raskolnikov, turns around to see Porfiry smiling at him sinisterly:
Raskolnikov, faints and passes out: Bozhe moy—
---------------------------
Luzhin: Yup, sometimes you got to beat the ladies off with a stick!
Luzhin, swinging his stick: Back woman! Back, I said!
---------------------------
Sonya: Ha! Footprints in the sand.. but then you turn around and see another set. Cause Jesus was with you, all along.
Camera pans to the next person beside her: .. but my name is Raskolnikov?
---------------------------
Svidrigailrov, when he kills his own wife so he can marry Dunya but gets rejected after getting almost shot by her:
Svidrigailrov: Well, guess I'll die? *shrugs with the gun in his hand*
---------------------------
Raskolnikov: I'm Napoleon. I'm a hero. I'm strong. I'm brave. I did something for society and humanity. Why should I be —
The old artisan: You're a murderer.
Raskolnikov, walks away: Nope. I'm not Napoleon. I'm a failure. I've been sinned. Sorry Mama. Sorry Dunya. *soon faints in between*
---------------------------
Luzhin, exists:
Raskolnikov: How dare you breathe in our presence?!
Luzhin: Then am I not supposed to breathe? Why don't you do the same?
Raskolnikov: At least I'd be happy to die knowing you died with me too. *flips off at him*
---------------------------
Alyona, lying on the floor dead:
Raskolnikov, stares at her dead body: .. well shit.
Raskolnikov, making a cool pose: But at least I've got that money!
---------------------------
Fyodor Dostoevsky, creates Crime and Punishment:
Me, travelling back in time, and bowing down next to him: Thank you for writing such an amazing book. It changed my life.
Fyodor: But I just wrote this book about human suffering?
Just about finished part 4. This... has been a hell of a ride
