I wasn't a huge fan of Winter's character up until I reread book 7, I always thought he was an absolute insufferable prick for really stupid reasons, but looking back he has a completely justifiable reason for his hatred of NightWings outside of his IceWing culture

I so desperately want more of Hailstorm, even just a Winglet book of his life back in the Ice Palace exploring his identity crisis and choosing between the life that was forced upon him versus the life where he was truly happy and had real friends would be incredible. This project was pretty straightforward; I didn't wanna do a super crazy background like my Moon fanart, so I just went with the aurora borealis and some delicious rim lighting (the aurora can go fuck itself for being so hard to draw traditionally, it kinda looks like shit ikik). I feel like I'm getting a better grasp on how to do color and pick good looking color schemes. Before I would only do complimentary and try to do as much contrast as possible, but I've learned that analogous color schemes look SOOOO GOOD and I can't believe I've done so few projects where I go for harmony instead of contrast

I also feel like I'm getting better at dragon poses and making them more dynamic, this pose isn't super crazy or anything but the head angle with the turning neck isn't something I've really done before, and I think I did pretty good

This was by far the hardest pose I've ever done, I kinda jumped straight into extreme perspective/foreshortening work without practicing a whole lot first. For my first time I think I did alright

WHO AM I (Hailstorm/Pyrite)

Not happy with this one :C

This one was an absolute mess pretty much all the way through and I kinda hate how it turned out. I was gonna do shading but I wanted to start something else instead of trying to fix something I wasn't having fun with

The flames were supposed to spell out "WHO AM I" and in my head I was like YEAH I'LL BE ABLE TO ACTUALLY SEE THE LETTERS ONCE I COLOR IT and that didn't turn out to well. I learned something at least so I'd still call it a win in my book

I'll definitely redo this one at some point and actually make something cohesive that doesn't hurt my brain to look at

Honestly not the happiest with this one, the shading on the mountains is pretty lackluster and the whole thing feels pretty empty, I think it would've helped if I added a character, but I did not feel like doing that

This is my last Borderlands piece for now, and I'll be moving into making some fanart for some of the people I follow on DeviantArt. I have a whole list of people's OCs I wanna draw at some point, its gonna be difficult choosing which ones to do because they're all so cooooooooooooool

2024 Art Summary :DDD

On December 31st 2023, I decided that 2024 was gonna be the most productive year of my life, not just in terms of art but also just with life in general. I'd say I did a pretty damn good job holding myself to that. This was the year that I worked my ass of in school to make sure I graduated on time, got my first job, and officially launched my commissions (despite not actually getting any this year, rip).

One of the resolutions I set for myself was to finish at least one project every month, and I WOULD'VE actually pulled it off if not for school getting in the way. March and April were definitely the busiest months of the year for me. I almost didn't finish my October drawing because of my job but I pulled through last minute. Overall, I completed about 70 projects this year, give or take, which is ABSOLUTELY INSANE, especially for me because I work pretty slow most of the time.

The amount I've improved this year is genuinely insane to me, like if I showed my past self all the stuff I've made, I think I would have a heart attack and perish. I feel like I'm becoming the artist I've always wanted to be, and there's still an infinite amount of things I wanna do. My 80 page google doc of ideas doesn't even begin to capture it all.

I've been considering making videos on DeviantArt to maybe give advice to struggling artists, nothing super serious, probably just little 3-5 minute rambles to hopefully spark some motivation out of people, whether it be on how to draw something, or how to approach creative challenges, or even just life advice in general. I'm probably not the most qualified to be giving out serious advice, but after everything I've done this year, I feel like all the knowledge I've gained deserves to be shared (:

I may have one other thing that I finish before 2025 if I get to it in time but no guarantees, so that's all I suppose. See you all in a year HEHHEHWHAHAHAGDHWW
