Using my it/its pronouns irl is basically just a marriage proposal tbh
maybe there's something im not understanding here, and honestly at the end of the day i don't really care one way or the other this is a pretty exclusively online topic, but the whole "neo/xeno AGAB" thing is like... vaguely transphobic right?
and i am absolutely 100% NOT the person to try to tell others how they should identify or what labels they should be using, im literally a transmasc nonbinary mspec/queer lesbian transspecies werewolf who uses xeno pronouns for fucks sake, it doesn't really get anymore "queer as in wtf is going on" than that.
but from what i've seen and read about it, it kind of seems to be simultaneously reinventing and discrediting the definition of transgender. To directly quote the "AGAB Non-Conformity" infographic made by @/nonconformityhub,
"Those who reject their AGAB, are unassigned, or were forced to fit a binary sex at birth may wish to self-assign a different AGAB. It's based around the idea that we shouldn't be forced to stick with a falsely assigned gender."
like, am i not understanding something or is that literally just the definition of being transgender or gnc?? i think the thing that rubs me the wrong way about it is that it almost kinda implies that as a transgender individual you should or need to disclose the gender you were assigned at birth to others, which (unless it's for legal or health related reasons) you literally just don't. If you are a trans man, congratulations, you are a man. You don't have to be an "AFAB man", you're just a man. As far as anyone else needs to be concerned, you are male and have always been such. The whole point of being trans is to reject the gender you were assigned at birth because it's flat out not what you are.
Idk again I don't really care that much I don't think it's gonna single handedly set back trans liberation or anything of that sort, I just feel like we SHOULD be focusing on dismantling the system of assigning genders at birth to begin with and reasserting that sex ≠ gender, rather than simply modifying the system to appeal to certain individuals and disregarding preexisting communities trying to accomplish that goal, and would maybe just encourage everyone to look at this kind of stuff with some healthy skepticism

proshippers: "anti's are so mean to us, it's causing us to have mental health issues, we're people with feelings too yk :("
damn that's so crazy, it's almost as if the things you say online can and often do have real world impacts and don't just exist in the vacuum of "fiction"
what a truly wild concept
"you cant identify as transspecies, thats not a real thing!! you'll always be human it's not even possible to transition to another species!!"
Fucking. Watch me.
Therianthropy Day is held every year on the first full moon of November. This year, in 2024, that falls on Friday the 15th. According to NASA, this also happens to be a supermoon, which means it’s slightly brighter than usual.
Why that date, and what is the history of that holiday?
Therianthropy Day commemorates the first Howl, which was held 30 years ago in November 1994. A Howl is when therians meet up together in person. That was a year after the first therians started to meet up together online in November 1993. Therians first proposed commemorating it as a holiday on that date in 1996, in a conversation thread you can still see here. Based on that history, in 2016, Muninn the Raven proposed observing it as Therianthropy Day, though the first posts and community poll about it attracted little attention. I think the holiday finally really caught on in 2021, when I first saw many therians posting on social media about fun things they were doing for it.
What are therians, anyway?
If therianthropy is a new idea to you, or you want to explain it to others who are unfamiliar with it, this essay is a quick and easy to understand introduction to it. It’s available in several languages already, and more translations would be great.
Learn more about the history of the therian community by reading the Timeline of the Therian Community written by @liongoatsnake
What can we do for Therianthropy Day?
I’ve seen therians celebrate it by wearing gear (for example, a necklace with the therian symbol, or clothes with pictures of their species), meeting up with their therian friends, and howling at the moon.
Enjoy some indie games and zines about therianthropy from this hand-curated itch.io collection. Some therian highlights from that: SlumberDragon’s zine of self-care tips for animal folk, @who-is-page’s therianthropy-inspired solo journaling game Wolf In Man’s Clothing, puppygirlbelly’s interactive story I Am Dog(s), and Digital Freegans’s zines THERIANARCHY and BEAST PUNKS.
Are there days for other sorts of alterhumans too?
There are. Alterhuman Day commemorates when Lio of the Crossroads System coined that word on September 26, 2014. Otherkin Day is on July 9, commemorating when the word was coined in 1990, though Arethinn has found that the word’s origin is a little more complicated than that. Plural Events says that Plural Pride Day is the third Saturday of July, and Plural Acceptance Week is that week.
having a prey species theriotype that hasnt been deemed cute or desirable by humans (especially if they also happen to be a keystone species) really sucks sometimes because it's like "im in a really shifty mood rn, let me go look at some pictures or watch some documentaries about my theriotype to feel more in touch with it! :3" and then it's just
*theriotype being hunted*
*theriotype being mutilated by predators*
*theriotype being eaten alive*
*theriotype starving*
*theriotype carcasses*
*theriotype baby drowning*
*theriotype infected with disease*
*theriotype with half of face ripped off*
went to a thrift store earlier today and got this super cute collar + vintage rabies vaccination tag
im not super big on wearing collars (hate the feeling of pressure against my neck, also im not domestic lol) so i'll probably use the collar as an accessory for my pants or something, and I think i'll turn the rabies tag into an earring !! 𐂯 ‧₊˚ ⏾
I just had one of the most positive "coming out" therian experiences Ive ever had the other day.
I was hanging out with a couple friends I hadn't seen in a while (technically it'd been years, but we've all kept in good contact online so it felt like much less), and one of them asked me about therianthropy because they had seen me post about it once or twice on my main. So I tried to be less awkward about it than usual and just told them straight up "It means I identify as an animal".
And there were no weird looks, no blank stares or awkward silence. They just kinda laughed and were like "Oh yeah that makes perfect sense for you :)"
We talked about it a little bit off and on during the rest of the hang out, I told them about my phantom shifts and mental shifts, about how I met my irl therian friends, about how I found the community. They asked me genuine questions, and while talking about alterhumanity irl is still a rather uncomfortable experience given how infrequently I do it, I never once felt judged.
And the thing is that neither of these friends are even part of adjacent/intersecting communities. Neither are furries, neither are cosplayers or really even into fandom at all. By all accounts they're both very "normie", but they accepted me with open arms.
After really only having coming out experiences where the other person just responds with "okay 🙂" and then never acknowledges it again, it felt soooo good to just have a normal open conversation about it, just like I would with any other aspect of my identity.
Sometimes humans are really cool :)
