god fuckign dammit i cant stop thinking about thefucking hospital scene
just rewatched it and i don't want to spend 5 hours formatting a long unhinged twitter thread so here we are. i am mishmashing the game and anime and manga scenes together in my personal canon blender. p4 spoilers of course
cause like, naoto is the one to suggest they throw namatame into the TV. and kanji's on board with it too. but the one yu has to fight over it, the one yu has to think carefully about and talk down, is fucking yosuke hanamura.
of course everyone has a personal stake in it considering namatame was going around kidnapping everyone, but yosuke specifically...
he phrases it like "we have to stop him before he hurts anyone else," but it seems like a big part of his motive is revenge. saki's kindness meant a lot to him, regardless of how real it was, or selfish his motive is, and it wasn't fair she had to die. so now he's gonna kill namatame. and it doesn't matter if that goes against his morals, or if no one else is willing to do it. he is absolutely dead set on killing namatame (pun intended). the only thing stopping him from doing it is yu.
it's ironic looking back. because like yosuke, namatame also lost someone important to him, and is trying to use his power to do what he thinks is right in his own way... just like yosuke wanted to be a hero, namatame wanted to be a savior, but yosuke is too blinded by rage in the moment to see that. the big difference is who got to them first. yosuke's had yu with him the whole time to keep him grounded, and eventually, the whole investigation team- namatame got adachi.
(side note- i more often think about yosuke+adachi parallels; how they're both bored with everything, but yosuke has the team and adachi pushes everyone away, but that's not really relevant rn lol)
there's also the scene where yu goes to confront the true killer alone, and yosuke's waiting outside when he comes back. and at that point he's not angry anymore, just… disappointed. (feelsbadman) but i don't think it's because he changed his mind.
after you calm him down in the hospital, he's STILL thinking about doing it:
(another side note- the va in this scene is top notch. this line gave me chills rewatching it. first time i saw the hospital scene i was getting a little scared lol)
and after learning the true killer's identity he fucking hates adachi. even after defeating him he never really forgives him. he still gets pissed and tries to attack adachi when he shows up unexpectedly in ultimax:
yosuke was 100% willing to kill someone, and he'd 100% do it again if his partner gave the okay. but as much as he hates adachi, he understands that he's important to yu, enough to know yu would break their promise and sneak into the TV alone. and despite how he might feel, he doesn't want yu to lose someone important to him too.
there's also the scene in the anime after the hospital, where after yu tries to send everyone home promising he'll be okay, yosuke comes back to comfort him. he's still upset, but he's deferring to yu's leadership and more importantly, making sure that his partner is okay comes first.
that's why i think it's great the anime puts the fist fight after the hospital scene. cause he spends his whole social link struggling with his grief and insecurity and jealousy; and then, in december, with tensions running high and these nasty revelations about himself and awful feelings swirling inside, it all finally comes to a head. and he tries to get it all out in the only way he knows how: two dudes beating the shit out of each other. Thats True Love Babey.
not much of a point to all this, except that i really love yosuke's character (and souyo) lol. something is wrong with him. I Know What He Is. he's like the team mood maker and he's always joking around (and i think golden especially looooves to play him up for comic relief), but perhaps the moments when he lets the veneer slip are the moments where he shines the most.

Hello my friends, it is my delight to announce my debut children’s book: The Deep!
It has been long been my dream to create a children’s book specifically about deep sea creatures, which have been one of my deepest (pun intended) fascinations since my own childhood. The book is chock full of facts, comics, puns, and ridiculous jokes all about the denizens of the darkest reaches of the ocean and I hope it will inspire young readers to appreciate our incredibly wild and wondrous world.

Saruhiko confessing to Misaki he's the love of his life
Fushimi stumbles over it quite a bit, trying to find the words to say it because this sort of declaration never fits well in his mouth. Fushimi wants to say it, wants to tell Yata exactly how much he means – 'I love you' isn't adequate enough to describe what he feels every time he looks at Yata, every time Yata smiles in his direction. Fushimi knows every bit of Yata, knows the way that his eyes light up with affection and how he means every word he says, he's learning that when Yata says 'I love you' that Yata feels it with every inch of his body. Sometimes Fushimi thinks he could teach a Masters in Misaki, in the slope of his shoulders and the curve of his back, the beat of his heart and the way that he breathes. 'I love you' is far too simple for what Fushimi wants to tell Yata every time he opens his mouth and somehow even that's so hard to say, his mouth always struggling to form the words, ending in a tongue click when his tongue gets tied, and Yata still just smiles and puts an arm around his shoulders and says it for him, I love you.
But sometimes Fushimi finds the words, lying in bed side by side and brushing Yata's bangs away from his face, whispering it into a kiss against Yata's shoulders, breathing it into Yata's mouth when they're tangled together. In a hundred lifetimes Fushimi knows he wouldn't ever love anyone else, couldn't ever imagine loving anyone else. He loved Yata from the moment Yata came when he called, from the time Yata broke down all his walls and grabbed his hand, dragged him along out of somewhere dark and into the sun, and Fushimi won't ever be able to apologize enough for the way he shattered that paradise. He didn't understand it as love then but he does now – that he loves Yata now and he loved Yata then and when he struggles through the words Yata's breath catches and his eyes shake and then he pulls Fushimi close, both hearts beating fast. Their hands that are usually so sure around each other fumble along buttons and zippers and Yata kisses him so deep Fushimi isn't sure that he can breathe at all beyond what he takes from Misaki's mouth, but that's fine – they were together then, they're together now, and Fushimi clutches at Yata's arms and repeats it under his breath like a chant, an anchor to hold onto, 'I love you, I love you, I love you.'
Yata styling Fushimi's hair...
This would be cute, like imagine post-ROK and Fushimi is wondering if he should change his hairstyle and Yata volunteers to help. Of course Yata's noticed that Fushimi styles his hair in a very similar manner as his dad used to, though he's never really sure how to bring this up to Fushimi. Fushimi's been looking at himself in the mirror lately and fiddling with his bangs, looking dissatisfied before turning away with a click of his tongue. Finally one day Yata can't keep quiet anymore and he sees Fushimi standing in the bathroom again, looking in the mirror with his hair still unstyled and looking like it used to back in the old days, and Yata steps in and is like hey why don't I style it for you. Fushimi glances coldly back at him, muttering that he doesn't need Yata's pity and besides Misaki's hair is a bird's nest. Yata's like what the hell it is not my hair is cool, Fushimi snorts all maybe for a middle schooler. Yata's like come on I'm being serious, let me style your hair for once, maybe you'll like it. Fushimi hesitates and then shrugs like well why not, Yata grins and is like trust me you'll love it.
He has Fushimi sit down in a chair and sets newspaper around them, getting some scissors and Fushimi's hair gel (and probably being like 'since when do you like hair gel so much anyway'). Fushimi tells him not to go overboard and Yata's all I won't I won't, I won't do anything to make you look weird I promise. Fushimi rolls his eyes like he's not so sure about that but he still sits there properly while Yata tries to decide what to do with Fushimi's hair. Imagine him just running his hands through it and even though Fushimi doesn't say anything he likes the feeling of Yata's hands massaging his scalp. Yata quietly asks why Fushimi started changing his hair in Scepter 4 anyway and Fushimi is silent for a moment before he mutters that he thought 'that guy's' hairstyle seemed more appropriate.Yata says he always liked Fushimi's hair in Homra better and Fushimi says if Yata's going to do that to his hair then don't even bother – that isn't the person Fushimi is anymore. Yata says Fushimi isn't his father either though, so why not try and find something that's just his own. Fushimi's surprised to hear Yata say it so plainly and then he gives this rueful smile and is like 'I'm in your hands, Misaki,' Yata grins and is all careful or I'll leave you bald.
So Yata takes his time styling Fushimi's hair, maybe trimming a little here and there and considering how it should look. In the end he hands Fushimi a mirror and maybe Yata did something kinda in between the middle school look and the 'Niki' look, like shorter bangs but still over the eye a little and looking at himself in the mirror it's like Fushimi's seeing someone entirely new. Yata says it looks good right, feeling all proud of himself. Fushimi stares at the mirror for a long time before finally ducking his head and mumbling '….it's good.' That just makes Yata smile even wider and he probably immediately wants to like get a picture of it, like it's about time he got the chance to enjoy looking at the real Fushimi Saruhiko, the one who isn't imitating anyone else and who's just being himself, the guy that Yata cares about the most.
