Oppression - Blog Posts

"gnc straight man being called a faggot doesn't experience homophobia" what the fuck are you talking about. there's absolutely no logic in anything like that. we have kids who literally killed themselves because of homophobic abuse in schools and you would dare to tell them it isn't homophobia that killed them because they weren't actually gay? insane. and so fucking cruel

Different oppressions don't cancel out it's not a math problem you don't get to be transmisogynistic because you're gay, you don't get to be antisemitic because you're poor, you don't get to be racist because you're a trans woman (disclaimer I am a white trans woman), etc etc etc. You shouldn't be trying to use your identity to shield yourself from accountability you should be trying to understand and support people who face oppression you don't face.

Here's Another Poem I wrote

This is one of the two poems that I wrote this year for a black history assembly at my school.

Blind

Can’t see it.

Can’t feel it.

Can’t recognize it.

You’re blind.

You turn away from the struggle of others.

You won’t hear about the injustice.

You pretend it’s all in the past.

You’re blind.

Don’t act like isn’t here.

Don’t act like it isn’t there.

Don’t make-believe it's all gone away.

Don’t look away from all the pain.

Your guilt is telling you to turn away.

Your fear is making you hateful.

Your hate is turning you violent.

Your ignorance has made you blind.

Note To Society #32

Nobody should ever have to fear public officers because of their race. That’s fucking insanity.

Note To Society #27

Racism absolutely exists, and there are thousands of articles and videos out there that prove it. Before arguing that a minority (especially one you aren’t a part of) doesn’t suffer from discrimination and oppression, do your research and educate yourself. Just because you don’t experience it, doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen.

Ally

I feel the need to say this. You do not need to be directly affected or apart of a community or situation to be an ally to that community or movement.I have seen so many people getting hate for supporting a movement or standing by a community that they are not apart of.  for example, you do not need to be apart of the LGBTQ+ community to support them and stand by them against all their oppression. you do not need to be black or native american or latino to understand that the oppression they face is unjust and they are equal to everyone else. we should all stand by each other and build each other up.

"B-but Palestinians can get their freedom with peace not violence 🥺🥺" no. Screw your feelings. The armed resistance against colonizers and murderers is what will give Palestinians their freedom and what will eventually achieve real peace.

An enemy that bombs and uses white phosphorus against civilians doesn't know nor practice what your broken moral compass describes as "peace". Freedom was proven throughout history not to be achieved through kneeling and asking the oppressor to kindly stop. Freedom needs to be taken by force. Your little Utopian way of thinking doesn't work in the real world. Your feelings don't matter because you're not the one living under occupation. Your feelings don't matter because you're not one of the thousands of children who lost their limbs. You're not one of the children who became orphans due to this genocide. You're not the mother who lost her child to the carpet bombing. You're not the father carrying the remains of your child in plastic bags. You're not the newlywed woman who lost her husband. You're not the one at risk of either getting killed any second or losing your loved ones in the blink of an eye!

"Peace" is not really a thing you see during a live ethnic cleansing!

A scan of the cover of the Jet Li Movie Black Mask.

______________________________________________________________

Jet Li's Black Mask -1998/color/102mins/VHS

Directed by Daniel Lee

Writers: Hark Tsui, Koan Hui, and Teddy Chan

Stars: Jet Li, Ching Wan Lau, and Karen Mok

Condition is Used, has fringed corners. color scheme black and red.

Back of the Box Blurb: Martial art sensation Jet Li("Lethal Weapon 4") takes action to a new level of intensity as the super human agent Black Mask ! When the Orchestral murders of Hong Kong drug lords are linked to a commando group known as squad 701, its up to a one time super soldier known as Black Mask to stop their plan in this action packed martial arts blow-out.

______________________________________________________________

Backstory: My parents and grandparents own all kinds of vinyl VHS and DVDs, So I decided to virtually archive some of them along with some other things we have here in storage. I have a lot fond memories watching Martial Arts Films with my grandmother so these films have a soft place in my heart. As a Person of Color I found that martial arts has a very soft spot in our communities. Constantly being revisited over and over in movies, music videos, anime, and art. It seems we find kinship in the idea of overcoming an oppressive force (for obvious reasons). You definitely can't fight the evil regime without a martial arts scene.

When privileged people agree to not have conversations about oppression, or to drop the subject as soon as it gets awkward or heated, think about the fact that the common ground that has been reached by all involved is that helping the oppressed avoid ongoing harm is not as important as the privileged avoiding temporary discomfort.

Those Logical, Honorable People Who Remain Neutral.

People are so well-aware that not being held accountable is to the advantage of the perpetrator in situations of injustice that we have sayings built around this concept, such as "getting away with murder." But they still pretend to not understand that they're helping oppressors when they remain "neutral." You're full of shit. Stop lying.

One of the really shitty things about being a minority in the U.S. is that, even though you know it’s wrong to play the Oppression Olympics, you sometimes lose the capacity to want the lack of oppression, and instead look at other oppressed communities and think “I wish we could trade our forms of oppression for a day.”
