Probably one of my favorite random things about LotR is the fact that
a) Pippin did a Gollum impression in the books
b) Pippin had never MET Gollum before that point and never would
c) yet it was an ACCURATE impression, as it startled and was recognized by the orc he was speaking to
d) the only possible explanation for Pippin Took’s accurate Gollum impression is this: Bilbo, while telling stories to the eager children, must have imitated Gollum perfectly

Tauriel’s Sermon on the River Bank (10/34)
I do!
Y'all motherfuckers just made me cry with this beautifulness! I need a hug... :')
“Oh mama, look at what your grandson found in the attic while we were looking for his pirate costume!”
Your daughter strode over to you with her child following closely behind. He waddled over and plopped a magnolia colored book on your lap. The cover reminded you of the adventure book Ellie made from “Up,” a movie that you took your grandchildren to see a few years ago. It took you a moment to dig through the overflowing stack of memories that occupied your mind, but you remembered it to be a photo album filled with long ago adventures.

This made my fucking day!
Granted, nobody in these movies is three-dimensional—but there seems to be a deliberate ban on developing Thranduil.
The Superlatively Superfluous Adventures of Legolas (&Tauriel)
Dateline: Laketown Refugee Camp (14/40)
I have a feeling that Thranduil and his wife had a relationship with bubbly moments, but also enough passion to fill every shelf of romance novels in a book store.
I’m talking tender and hot behind closed doors, but best friends before anything else. Also, the most awesome parents ever when Legolas was born…like Morticia and Gomez awesome!
Are the dwarves in Tolkien's works actually anti-Semitic or is that another thing that comes from Norse myths? I don’t know how much of The Hobbit was based on Norse stuff (the premise and size of Thorin’s company come from Beowulf), but two of the famous dwarves from Norse myth are famous for their greed, Andvari and Fafnir. Andvari had a lot of gold and a cursed ring, and then when Fafnir got the ring, his greed was so great that he became a dragon (probably where the concept of dragon sickness comes from), and his presence is sometimes said to have poisoned the land.
Either way, modern dwarves seem to have mostly grown past the anti-Semitic stuff.
thoughts on goblins in the DRG universe?
(I don't really like goblins as a concept bc of antisemitic story behind them)
But would be cool to see other sentient little creatures in DRG that are not dwarves
Wow, I admire this artwork
Happy 10th anniversary to the final part of my favorite trilogy ever!

Well, the yellow stockings are so exciting, I mean:
Can we just talk for a moment about Thorin wearing ‘yellow stockings’?
Some of you were involved with previous read-alongs, so you know what’s coming, but for the newbies, here’s the deal: For seven weeks, we’re going to read through Tolkien’s The Hobbit together chapter by chapter. It’s a great opportunity for first-timers and old fans alike to enjoy Tolkien’s works with other Tumblr fans like you while also sharing our own fanworks.
And in case that description wasn’t enough to get you excited, here’s a promo trailer I made for the event. If you have any questions, you can find me at tolkienreadalong.tumblr.com - I hope to see you all there!
(Oh, and please reblog this, or make a promo post of your own - the more people find out about the read-along, the more fun it is for everyone, believe me!)
Couple of things.
1st: CSI has ruined rice and rice bubbles for me, lol (I can only see muggots now when I look at them)
2nd: Being a Hobbit fan (the movies, not the books) is watching the movies for the 100th time and still yelling/ hope that Bilbo does not pick up the ring and that Fili,Kili & Thorin don't die (spoiler but I feel like not many people who don't know this).
3rd: I watch Dr Mike on YT and I find myself yelling at characters "chest compressions, chest compressions, chest compressions" when they do shitty CPR & I can't be the only one (yes I know they are acting but I still do it)
4th: I feel like everyone does this but if I see an actor in something, I will guess where I have seen them from or their name.
5th: Ok I have started to do something and it has helped me so I thought I would share it. If you are watching a show or movie and something that is done that makes no sense in our world, just apply the "insert the sw name here" logic. E.g: the fact that they look at each other so often it gives me anxiety when they are driving in the Rookie or when they get Dr Robbins to do an animal ortopsy rather than a forensic vet, just say Rookie/ CSI logic and move on so that you don't try and explain the logic/plot holes and drive yourself nuts. (People probably already do this but hey if this helps anyone I'll be happy but of not mah).
6th: Why is Hodges going outto the field, he hates it(yes I know he said it is to get his mind off Wendy but still)
7th: Does any know where I can watch the 911 family feud if I am not in the states and don't have Hulu.
Hi, I don’t post on here a lot, but I would really appreciate it if I could get some advice. So, I have been feeding the stray/feral cats in my neighborhood, and I have realized that there a bunch!! I know that they probably come from the earlier generations of cats that people abandoned here when the housing crisis happened . I don’t know if I should call the shelter, but our shelter in my city SUCKS, and I am afraid that they’ll be off worse there.
So I have been feeding them and I was thinking about doing the “Trap, Neuter, and Release” process I have seen people doing. I know that this will help lower the feral/stray cat population in this neighborhood, but I am not sure how to start it. I do document the cats that I do see and who are the regulars that come by for food. I just feel really lost, and even though the internet is a crazy place it is useful. Also, does anyone know any good outdoor cat shelters.🧐🧐🧐
ANY ADVICE IS USEFUL! PLEASE I AM DESPERATE!!!!
P.S: these are some of the kitties😻

so my school’s drama production is ‘The Hobbit’ and i’m playing kili and at one point the person playing fili had to leave early so i pulled out one of these
from my pocket and held it up and said ‘okay guys this is Germ but his friends call him God, say hi!’ and everyone simultaneously said ‘hi God’ and i had God speak fili’s lines for the rest of the day. 10/10 rehearsal.
Just remembered that when I was 12(?), I was going to watch the hobbit movies but got distracted a few minutes in and then spent the next >2h trying to come up with the most regal sounding way to say Thranduil’s name and just repeating it an absurd amount of times.
(I had chicken pox at the time and was just very bored and sitting in my bed.)
The teaser trailer is out! Make sure you check it out!! Beyond excited for the year end to see this movie.

Just saw a tik tok that said George R. R Martin claims Jamie Lannister could beat Aragorn in a sword duel. First of all Aragorn is Dunedain higher race of men and he has the Narsil sword that injured Sauron, Jamie can’t compete where he doesn’t compare. Second of all Boromir in his past life as Ned Stark was Jamie’s fear so…. George better put some respect on Tolkien coming from an author who can’t finish his pro incest story. All in all this comical author has some nerve making these comical proposals

English Translation:
Unlike his forebears, Thorin wore no crown. The people of Erebor placed their trust in him and he would not lead them astray, but when they came with a crown - forged in the halls they built in the west - as a way to honour his leadership, he refused them.
As a king in exile, Thorin would not bear any crown until he sat upon the throne of his fathers'. In the same way he kept his beard short, in memory of those lost to the dragon's fire, he remained unadorned in the traditional garb of his royal line.
Not until the mountain was theirs once more and the loss of their past washed out would he do so. Thorin took the crown made for him and placed it above the seat, hewn from the strong mountain rock, where he spoke to his people.
"Let it there rest," he said, "and every day I will work to reach its honour."
For in his heart, Thorin felt less than worthy to wear any crown, beggar-prince that he had been.
Scottish Gaelic Translation:
Aocoltach ris a sinnsearan, cha robh crùn air Thòrin. Chuir an t-sluaigh Erebor earbs air agus cha robh e ‘s gun cuireadh e iad air seachran. Ach nuair a thàinig iad le crùn, air dèanamh san tallachan a thogadh anns an Iar, mar onarachadh dha, cha ghabh e e.
Mar rìgh fògraich, cha robh Thòrin airson crùn a bhith air mus do sheas e air an rìgh-chathair nan athraichean. Anns an aon dòigh gun robh e a’ cumail na fheòsag goirid, cha bhiodh na aodaich rìoghail traidiseanta air mar chuimhneachan de dhaoine a chaidh a losgadh san teine an nathair-sgiathaich. Cha dèanadh e gus a bha a’ bheinn aca a-rithist.
Chuir Thòrin an crùn a bha air cruthachadh dha agus shuidhe e e air os chionn an rìgh-cathair a rinn an t-sluaigh às na clachan. An àite far am biodh e a’ bhruidhinn riutha.
“Leig an sin e,” thuirt e, “agus gach latha, obraich mi gus an urrainn dhomh an urram sin a’ ruigse.”
Air sgàth, anns a chridhe, cha robh Thòrin a’ faireachdainn gun robh e airidh air crùn sam bith—prionnsa dhìol-dèirce a bha e uaireigin.
