here is my brand new challenge! i’ve known that i was going to do this challenge since i started my summer challenge in july so i am so psyched to be able to finally share it with you guys! i hope that you will enjoy it <3
DISCLAIMER: lots of the prompts in December are to do with Christmas because that is what i celebrate at this time of year. i was very aware of that when i was writing the prompts but i did not think that knew enough about other festivals and holidays at this time to write prompts about them. i did not want any prompts i made to be disrespectful. if you don’t celebrate Christmas, please know that this challenge is still for you! you can either just use the prompts anyway (if they are applicable) or adapt them to fit the festival or holiday that you celebrate. if it is impossible to adapt, then simply tell me about what you celebrate because i am excited to learn about them! [this was edited later because i realised i forgot to add it - thank you to the anon who queried this issue for reminding me <3]
If you do the challenge, use the tag #winter studying challenge so i (and others) can see your posts. I try to reblog as many as possible.
This challenge will run for two months - from the 1st December to the 31st January

I made an Angel Generator last night! I'm currently working on a better one (and an eventual demon generator tbh) but I thought it'd be fun to share the old version! And also that I'd get a kick out of seeing peoples' interpretations of their angels.
It assigns a body type, size and what its skin is made out of, among other things. Also (somewhat) custom palettes! I picked every fucking shade myself and painstakingly pasted their hexcodes into this thang. Enjoy!

How to Learn a New Language: Simple Tips for Success
Learning a new language can be both fun and challenging. It opens doors to new cultures, experiences, and even career opportunities. If you’re ready to take on this journey, here are some quick tips to help you succeed.
1. Set Clear Goals
Decide why you want to learn the language—whether for travel, work, or personal growth. Having a clear goal will keep you motivated and on track.
2. Immerse Yourself
Surround yourself with the language. Watch movies, listen to music, and read in the language as much as you can. This exposure will help you absorb vocabulary and sentence structures naturally.
3. Practice Speaking Early
Start speaking the language from the very beginning, even if it’s just a few words. Practice with native speakers or use language-learning apps that focus on conversation.
4. Be Consistent
Consistency is key. Study a little every day instead of cramming all at once. Daily practice helps keep the language fresh in your mind.
5. Embrace Mistakes
Don’t be afraid to make mistakes—they’re part of learning. The more you practice, the better you’ll get, so stay positive and persistent.
6. Use Multiple Resources
Try different tools like apps, flashcards, podcasts, and grammar books. Mixing resources keeps learning interesting and well-rounded.
Conclusion
Language learning takes time and effort, but by setting clear goals, practicing daily, and embracing mistakes, you’ll improve steadily. Enjoy the process, and soon, you’ll be able to communicate confidently in a new language!
Really says something about the dire state of offerings for men interested in sewing their own clothes that even searching things like "interesting men's clothing patterns" brings up articles with links to four or five whole websites that primarily offer admittedly nice but practically identical patterns for making button-ups and work pants and maybe a varsity/bomber jacket if you're lucky.
(Branching out into historical costuming for everyday wear is like your one shot at variation, and even then, the ratio of men's to women's patterns on every website is frustrating to say the least.)
Patternmakers as a trans man I am begging you. Give me a little more to work with here.
i think the near-extinction of people making fun, deep and/or unique interactive text-based browser games, projects and stories is catastrophic to the internet. i'm talking pre-itch.io era, nothing against it.
there are a lot of fun ones listed here and here but for the most part, they were made years ago and are now a dying breed. i get why. there's no money in it. factoring in the cost of web hosting and servers, it probably costs money. it's just sad that it's a dying art form.
anyway, here's some of my favorite browser-based interactive projects and games, if you're into that kind of thing. 90% of them are on the lists that i linked above.
A Better World - create an alternate history timeline
Alter Ego - abandonware birth-to-death life simulator game
Seedship - text-based game about colonizing a new planet
Sandboxels or ThisIsSand - free-falling sand physics games
Little Alchemy 2 - combine various elements to make new ones
Infinite Craft - kind of the same as Little Alchemy
ZenGM - simulate sports
Tamajoji - browser-based tamagotchi
IFDB - interactive fiction database (text adventure games)
Written Realms - more text adventure games with a user interface
The Cafe & Diner - mystery game
The New Campaign Trail - US presidential campaign game
Money Simulator - simulate financial decisions
Genesis - text-based adventure/fantasy game
Level 13 - text-based science fiction adventure game
Miniconomy - player driven economy game
Checkbox Olympics - games involving clicking checkboxes
BrantSteele.net - game show and Hunger Games simulators
Murder Games - fight to the death simulator by Orteil
Cookie Clicker - different but felt weird not including it. by Orteil.
if you're ever thinking about making a niche project that only a select number of individuals will be nerdy enough to enjoy, keep in mind i've been playing some of these games off and on for 20~ years (Alter Ego, for example). quite literally a lifetime of replayability.

because i love y’all, i’m sharing my family’s recipe for apple tea (traditional fall/winter drink in west asia, turkey, and many areas of the balkans)
it’s like a more delicate version of apple cider and i basically live off of this stuff when the weather starts to cool!
1 large apple or 2 small, shredded (you can use a cheese grater)
3 cups water
1-2 cinnamon sticks
2-3 pc clove (optional)
honey to taste
1 tsp of lemon juice (add at end)
green tea (optional! some versions call for green tea but i actually prefer it without. up to you!)
throw it all in a pot and let it simmer on a low temperature for an hour or so. while it’s simmering, it will also make your home smell delicious! (if you make it with green tea, add the tea at the end, about five minutes before taking it off the heat so the flavor doesn’t become bitter from oversteeping). strain into your cups and enjoy hot.
end result:
What if I taught myself to tablet weave? I've never woven before but I bet I could just... Do it. Will report back.
okay but I am so amused at how surprised my prof was this morning when I actually brought him an oat latte like I said I was going to do
Hi! I am just beginning to learn French and I'm so lost on to where to start and everything. So I was wondering if you had any tips for someone who's just starting to learn French? And if you have any recommendations? Thank you so much ✨✨
i’ve linked all resources in a small icon that looks like this: (x)
first of all i reccomend learning some french phonics and the rules of the french alphabet. learn the way each letter is pronounced - especially accents as that can really help you in spelling and pronunciation. (x) i’d reccomend, following some of the studyblrs that i’ll leave at the bottom of this post, to find some french notes in your feed - the studyblr community is so helpful when it comes to learning languages - not to mention, you’ve got the whole langblr community too! go ahead, start following some french and langblr tags!
then move on to learning basic phrases, vocab and words, so you can start forming sentences. learn words like ‘mais’, meaning ‘but’, and ‘parce que’, meaning ‘because’. for learning these basics, i reccomend looking through my pinterest board dedicated to the french language! (x)⇢ as you learn vocab, learn the gender with the word - it will help you so much in the future!
as you learn more, you’ll need to start learning about verbs, start off by learning verb endings: the -er endings, the -re endings and the -ir endings for the present tense; do the same for the other tenses. ⇢ you will find that quizlet (and the internet in general), will be your best friend for this!THERE YOU GO! YOUR FIRST RULE COPLETED :)
once you’ve learnt the basics, start learning some more rules, BUT DON’T LET THE RULES OF THE FRENCH LANGUAGE SCARE YOU - admittedly they can be hard to get your head around, but they’re some of the most important things to learn - it’s the difference between someone who is grammatically correct, and someone who is not - and we all love to sound smart don’t we!
find someone to practise with, make an internet friend who studies french; one that is french, would be even better! if you’re not into making internet friends with random people, try speaking to some of the french studying studyblrs, that i’ll leave at the bottom of this post. or perhaps, just talk to me! i’ve only been learning french for two years, but i’m top of my year / grade, and i have some decent conversational skills, to say the least.
REMEMBER:⇢ do it because you love it, learn a few more phrase and vocab lists, because they interest you - it’ll become more and more motivational - trust me!⇢ get in the mood to learn french: learn about their culture, eat some of their food, listen to some of their music etc.
AN HONORABLE MENTION:@studiyng wrote an amazing masterpost on how to learn a new language, which could be ever so helpful to so many people, so i’ll just leave this here! (x)

Little Everyday Witchy Things
💖Say a prayer while your still in bed, before you get up in the morning it counts as a simple offering.
💖Make some tea and add cinnamon to your tea to increase luck and energy.
💖Put thyme in your tea for good luck.
💖The type of tea you make should depend on your mood.
💖If you want alertness, energy, and to dispel negative premonitions of the day make black tea, chai tea, or oolong tea.
💖If you want to detoxify your energy and clear your conscious mind make green tea, jasmine tea, sencha tea, or matcha tea.
💖If you want help with clarity, serenity, and wisdom make white tea or an herbal tea.
💖For an easy boost place a crystal next to your tea cup to charge your tea.
💖If you want to boost clarity use a clear quartz crystal.
💖If you want to increase your chance of love and beauty use a rose quartz crystal.
💖If you want to stabilize and ground yourself use an obsidian, bloodstone, or onyx crystal.
💖If you want to intensify your awareness and spiritual powers use an opal or lapis crystal.
💖If you want to increase courage use a tigers eye crystal.
💖While your tea is charging do some yoga, exercise, or meditate. You only have to do this for as long as your tea is charging. So like literally five minutes, trust me it makes a difference.
💖If you make breakfast give a piece of your breakfast as an offering. If you don’t make breakfast give some of your tea you made as an offering.
💖While you get dressed and do your makeup light a candle. This way you start your day off with a little light, light acts as a positive omen, and wakes you up more.
💖If you want purity and beginnings light a white candle.
💖If you want courage and strength light a red candle.
💖If you want healing, luck, and prosperity light a green candle.
💖If you want calming and spiritual awareness light a blue candle.
💖If you want psychic powers and control light a purple candle.
💖If you want positivity and beauty light a yellow candle.
💖If you want beauty, serenity, and positivity light a pink candle.
💖If you want stimulation and energy light a orange candle.
💖While doing your makeup place a rose quartz crystal next to your makeup supplies. It’s a simple tactic that really ups your look for the day.

🌙 Your moon cycle (also known as your period). If you’re into the self-love side of witchcraft and want to focus more on your body and it’s wants and needs, you might want to think about keeping track of your period. You can then create spells, rituals and meditations that correspond with the moon phase and day(s) that you’re menstruating. <— this is obviously for those that are menstruating.
🌻 Your garden. If you have a garden (even if it’s just 3 little baby herb plants in your window, hey a garden is a garden) keep track of how well your plants or herbs are doing. Write down when you water them, how much sunlight (and moonlight, if that’s your thing) they got. You could even write down any emotional vibes you’re getting from your garden.
🔮 Your spells and rituals. Keeping track of your spells doesn’t just help you remember when you did what spell and what it was for, but it also allows you to go back and write in how well that spell worked out for you. And if it worked out well, because you kept track of it, you’ll know how to use it again in the future.
💰 Witchy buys. This is important if, like me, you tend to do a little bit of overspending on all the witchy supplies. But since I started to keep track of what I’m buying, using and not using, I’ve saved a ton of money on unnecessary things.
🙏 Gratitude. Keep a growing list of all the things you’re grateful for. It’s great to look back on in the future and it helps you keep perspective of your own life and spiritual journey.
🍵 Your tea. Okay, this is just something I do but I love to keep track of all the different teas I try. I think tea is considered a very witchy drink and therefore some of us are a little more serious about our tea drinking lol. But I just love taping in the little packaging, that my tea came in, into my journal and writing a little bit about it and how it made me feel and what it made me think about.
🌦️ The weather. This is important, to me, because I believe the weather can affect us and how we feel, think and behave. I like to have a record of what the weather was like when I casted a spell, did a ritual or did a reading so I can go back later and see if I feel that might have affected the outcomes.
if you use kindle for the majority of your library, they will be shutting down the function that allows you to download your files and transfer them via USB on the 26th of February. Which doesn't sound like a huge deal, but this also means that if a book is taken off Amazon for any reason—like it being banned—they can scrape it off your kindle as well. So maybe backup your library?
