We Dont Talk About Bruno - Blog Posts

Anyone else really disappointed on with the “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” Oscar performance. I only watched the performance and I didn’t like it. Nothing against Megan Thee Stallion, Luis Fonsi, and Becky G(I think they are talented in their own right) but I really wanted the whole cast to be the center of the attention and see the whole song. Having celebrities sing when they don't have a connection to “Encanto” felt really cheap.

Having Shakira, Maluma, and Carlos Vives singing the song would’ve been an okay substitute if the entire cast couldn’t come since they are singers from Colombian and “Encanto” takes place there.

Anyone else think if ‘91 Drakepad got married they would be similar to Pepa and Félix from Encanto.

Like LP is to Drake, Félix is supportive of Pepa and helps her when she is in emotional distress. Drake and Pepa are emotionally-driven and need non-judgmental partners to feel valid in their negative feelings. Pepa is also a bit narcissistic(not as much as Drake) since in “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” she refers to her and Félix‘s wedding as “my wedding day,” and she gets annoyed when her husband cuts in with his input.

What do you guys think?

My Ranking Of The Encanto Soundtrack(From Most To Least Favorite)

My Ranking of The Encanto Soundtrack(From Most to Least Favorite)

*The Encanto soundtrack is great and there is no song I dislike*

Here is my ranking:

1. We Don’t Talk About Bruno

I know it’s a pretty basic favorite but I don’t care. I love the music and the different singing styles. Plus, it introduced me to the movie. I heard about how popular this song and I listened to the audio and got hooked. My favorite parts are Dolores and Camilo’s, they are unique and great.

2. Surface Pressure

As someone who has anxiety issues and feels constant pressure, this song really resonated with me. The lyrics were also really, and I got sort of emotional near the end. Jessica Darrow does a great job singing this song.

3. Waiting on a Miracle

I also struggle with feeling out of place in my family so Waiting on a Miracle hit me hard in the feels. I don’t have a lot to say other than I relate to the lyrics and the desperation in Mirabel’s voice to make her family proud.

4. Colombia, Mi Encanto

This song gives me such nostalgia on the good times I had with my grandmother when I was little. And the beat is just so infectious.

5. What Else Can I Do?

Now we are at part of the list where I don’t particularly love the songs.

I don’t know why but I don’t feel much for this song even though it is well produced and the lyrics are good. Maybe it’s because I don’t like Isabella that much. She was a good character but I had trouble connecting with her troubles, especially when the way she was handling it was being mean towards Mirabel. I think I would’ve been more forgiving towards her if a reason for her anger towards Mirabel was addressed and that Isabella’s development was not so rushed.

6. The Family Madrigal

Weirdly enough, I’m not in love with the musical numbers that don’t focus on a specific character. I guess with We Don’t Talk About Bruno is like an ensemble song but the main focus was Bruno. The Family Madrigal is a great song for introducing all the characters in a fun way though I wouldn’t listen to it as much.

7. Dos Oruguitas

I’m not a Spanish speaker so it’s hard for me to connect with this song since it’s all in Spanish. Though, it fits perfectly with the corresponding scene, and I got pretty emotional the first time I saw the scene.

8. All of You

Like The Family Madrigal, I didn’t love All of You because it was an ensemble song. There were some parts are enjoyed like Bruno’s little rap and the small cute moments between the family. Mirabel finally getting a door was so sweet though.

Overall, this is a really cute ending song!

Comment your ranking and your thoughts on mine. 😁

When I tell you, this woman is BOLD

When I Tell You, This Woman Is BOLD

First she appears like her whole life has led up to this moment where she pops out of nowhere to retrieve the man of her dreams

I’d be so embarrassed… but hey props to this queen

When I Tell You, This Woman Is BOLD

This had no business being that funny 😭

She really went “MOVE” and yeeted Mirabel off the screen, then basically told Mariano that she high key stalks him …?? 🥴

I’m assuming Mariano is used to the bizarre idea of this family having magical powers, so that’s why he didn’t feel bothered in the slightest when learning this new information. Just a guess

And after that chaotic dinnerTM, I don’t think anything could ever surprise this dude ever again if we’re being honest

When I Tell You, This Woman Is BOLD

Then this man pulls off a reverse Frozen without the evil trope.

*chef’s kiss* a match made in heaven

The Madrigals dancing

The Madrigals Dancing

Dolores is so elegant and graceful (Isabela better watch out).

Meanwhile Mirabel is just vibing even though she has no idea what the heck is going on. A whole mood, sis

The Madrigals Dancing

Yeahhh move them hips girlll, throw them petals 🌸

The Madrigals Dancing

Pepa and Felix are like perfection. If my marriage isn’t like this I don’t want it.

I swear, they both have what in Colombia we call “sabor.” Their moves got ✨flavor✨

The Madrigals Dancing

Can I just say, the way Camilo’s ruana cooperated with his moves was just 🤌🏽 perfection??? Also them hand gestures, yes boy!

What about Mirabel?! She was just vibing to everyone’s parts and there are too many instances of her dancing that I wish I could fit them all ahhhh

The Madrigals Dancing

The Colombian-ness is just beautiful. Get it, Luisa 😩🙌🏽

The Madrigals Dancing

No matter how old you are, the groove is in your DNA. Abuela Alma ain’t joking

Agustín, ily

The Madrigals Dancing

Pepa and Felix again cuz why not. Pepa’s side of the family is somehow particularly gifted. They got MOVES.

Antonio is on a whole other level of cool rn. Own it, king 👌🏽

The Madrigals Dancing

Of course, the most iconic musical number 👏🏽

That lady be twirling her dead fish around 😭

And again, Pepa’s kids are SO talented. Look at Camilo moving those hips—Shakira who???

The Madrigals Dancing

My mami gonna catch me aggressively placing the glassware on the dinner table as I attempt the choreography and quite possibly break the glass

The Madrigals Dancing

You didn’t think I was gonna forget about best man Bruno, right??

Look at that majestic twirl ✨

I don’t think this has been said enough…

I Don’t Think This Has Been Said Enough…

Or maybe it has and I’ve just been living under a rock, BUT

Bruno’s series of apologies to Mirabel for simply interrupting her abruptly.

Like you don’t understand. This man has been led to believe he needs to apologize for merely existing!

He talks to Mirabel so softly and the one moment where he was like “oh no I’ve raised my voice slightly with Mirabel, I must now apologize a few times” like PLSSS

He looks so scared for telling her she’s missing the point.

Like Abuela, and the rest of the Madrigals who slandered the absolute crap out of Bruno (*ahem* Camilo), let this man have a break.

In fact they all owe him more apologies than a simple “hey, welcome back after 10 years of knowing absolutely nothing about you, lol” (excluding Dolores for obvious reasons)

At this point, the entire community of Encanto owes this man a series of apologies.

Please and thank you.

I just thought about this but…

Something I absolutely love about that part of the “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” song in Encanto where they all sing together is that they all didn’t just superimpose pre-recordings of their individual parts from earlier in the song.

You can distinctly hear Camilo singing the last “…he sees your dreams and feasts on your screams” in a different melody. Also, he doesn’t have that rasp in his voice anymore like the first time when we were all hit with the “sEVEN FOOT FRAME, rrATSS ALONG HIS BACK…”

You hear Isabela’s “And I’m fine! I’m fine! I’m fine!” which I think is fantastic that it foreshadows how Bruno’s prediction for her seemed positive but not to her

Dolores has variation of melody and sings along to the “I’m fine!” part in a lower tone compared to Isabela’s high-pitched singing. This is pretty awesome and a good complement because she’s in love with the man Isabela is supposed to marry, and neither of them are fine even though they pretend they are

We still have Pepa’s same melody and lyrics because her part is pretty much the backbone of the whole song

Felix’s part was just a bit different in melody as to complement Pepa’s part

On a side note, I wish Luisa would’ve had a part in this song, because I know full well she’d have nothing negative to say about my man. But sis was NOT having it, she looked so sad while everyone’s just vibing (even Bruno himself) to the Bruno diss track

Anyway… I’m probably looking too far into this, and Lin Manuel Miranda probably had them do that so it would sound right when all the parts were together, but it doesn’t take away the fact that it was pretty freaking cool okay
