This! As a person, obsession with mythology and religion playing genshin is like a minimalized version of becoming an archaeologist, which was my dream when I was little.

Everything is amazingly complex and scattered like some of the most amazing stories in real life.

I love genshin, even though the representation could be better, the lore is fascinating and so immersing

ok, so no one talks about it, but i truly adore how genshin presents its in-game lore as real life mythology and history is! you discover tevyat's history, culture, mythology by actually going through scattered texts you find while exploring, or reading descriptions of items you find, or in namecards, and even in tcg card descriptions! and a lot of these sources aren't fully reliable, are hard to make sense of, and are given to you in absolutely no chronological order.

EXACTLY LIKE REAL LIFE MYTHOLOGY. most cultures' mythologies are passed down orally until one wise person decides to actually write it down! and those become our only sources of insight into those myths and ancient stories. norse mythology, for example, has only like two viable texts and those were written after roman christians took control over the area. like the sources are scattered and one tale has many interpretations and endings. you have to become an actual scholar to decipher all of it.

and the fact, the mere fact, that genshin has been able to mirror this in a game is absolutely insane to me.

like, oh, you wanna learn about nabu malikata, the goddess of flowers? here are your sources: an artifact set, a weapon description, a npc dialogue, a world quest, the description of a flower (padisarahs). and all of these are scattered throughout the world of tevyat.

you have to work, like a damn archeologist, to figure what the fuck is tevyat truly and understand its history.

like god, i have never played a more lore-rich game. from old mondstadt, to the hexenzirkel, to dragonspine and durin, to the yakshas and adepti, to baal and beelzebul, to watatsumi and enkanomiya, to the chasm's civilisation, to khaenriah, to elynas, to remuria and remus, to apep and nibelung, to deshret and nabu malikata, to the combined civilisation before the second descender.

it is SO fleshed out. and i haven't even mentioned like 40% of wtf is going on in tevyat.

One day, for shits and giggles, Bruce asks the JL which of his kids they think has the highest kill count. Naturally everyone assumes it’s Bruces estranged Crime Lord son. Other’s assume it’s his literal ex-assassin child.

Bruce, whips out a PowerPoint with statistics and next to Tim’s name is just a question mark.

“I know it’s Tim,” Bruce finally says, “I just don’t have enough evidence to back it up.”

The JL is ready to defend this kid, because he doesn’t seem the type, but Red tornado, who was a den mother for the young Justice team, and flash, who has a great relationship with his family both nod along with bruce. Which is a relief, because Bruce swears he’s being gaslit by his third youngest. Bruce still loves him, but Tim is crazy(affectionate) and no one else seems to see it.

His technique is so interesting, and we still don't know how exactly it works, which I find interesting 'cause we got like two whole pages talking about the math behind Gojos technique and a lot of other notes and all the other sorcerers and some curses(Exept Sukuna) get their techniques and/or fighting abilities at least somewhat explained, but for Yuta (and Rika) it's just......empty. Like I've read a lot of theories, but no clear answers, like is RIKA his technique, does he even have one or are his abilities borrowed from Rika, does he have two(his copy and HER) or is it something completely different

SPOILERS:

His domain is very interesting, too. I know it's a nod to another manga that inspired jjk (forgot the name, please tell me in the comments), and the name "True Love" just HAS to mean that his technique is at least somewhat co-dependant to Rika and those 10 minutes are most likely a binding vow to, like, maximise her abilities after she "moved on" at the end of jjk0, which in turn, especially considering his demotion to 4th grade after losing her, means that his technique isn't as good without her as it is WITH her so the other question I had is:

Did he lose his ability to copy techniques when he didn't have her, or did he only have the techniques he had already copied before the ending, or the least likely, for me, option, did his technique stay the same?

We know NOTHING of what he did in Africa with Miguel or what he did to get Rika back, even if partially, which is yet another mystery surrounding his powers and growth throughout the series.

Last point, I swear. How did he get so strong? In jjk0, he was barely to hold his own against a semi-special grade curse even with Inumakis's help, and now he is able to go blow for blow with two special grade sorcerers from the past, with one of them being the person belived to hold the MOST cursed energy in history. Jjk IS known for crazy jumps in power but NOT with training in another country with low-level curses and not a lot of sorcerers. So......how did he do it? And why aren't we told at least a little about his training?

Imagine if after Fright Knight leaves and Jason reads the scroll he just..........stops. Like he just learned that the baby brother he saved all those years ago not only didn't have a normal and happy life, but is also dead and expected to RULE A WHOLE DIMENSION BY HIMSELF. If something similar to this had happened to me and my sisters, I would have been absolutely crushed and devastated. Jason just wanted to help but unknowingly both saved and doomed his most beloved person

Another Sibling Danny and Jason idea!!

"Are you Jason Peter Todd?!" demanded a deep and commanding tone from the strange glowing being in front of them.

All the Bats stiffened and tensed, no doubt gearing up for a fight against the being that somehow knew Red Hood's full name.

Jason, Red Hood, decided to put on a brave front despite no doubt cursing in his head and wondering how the heck did this thing know his full freaking name.

"Whose asking." he snarled out, his hands twitching for his gun when the huge glowing knight with purple flames coming out of his helmet and cape, who was riding on a nightmare looking horse while they all had been in the cave going over tonight's patrol.

The Knight didn't seemed bothered by his response nor did he even seem to care or flinch when Batman made his own demand on 'Why was he there and who was he' or when Damian unsheathed his sword and pointed it towards him. Instead the strange glowing Knight reached to it side and pulled out... A glowing scroll? Huh. (Also he completely unnerved everyone in the room when the Knight didn't even react when Batman had tossed a Baterang when he reached for his side)

The Knight opened the scroll and spoke clearly with purpose.

Jason felt like he couldn't breath as Fright Knight? Rolled up the scroll, pulled a letter from his side, and held out the two items for him to take.

I do not agree with this, but I recently saw someone on tumblr say that the only queer coding in the good omens book was aziraphale being called a slur, and that neil gaiman's books featured gay charactera being pedophiles.

I havent read all of his books, so I dont have any idea about the last statement, only coraline and good omens and I am reading the graveyard book right now, but what do you think about this sentiment? Is there any truth in said statement?

If the source of those accusations are the kind of people suggesting anybody go kill themselves, I'd wager their thoughts are largely worth ignoring.

Neil Gaiman is a kind and empathetic human who has canonically queer characters in many of his works, as does Sir Terry Pratchett, the co-author of Good Omens.

Good Omens the book, in its entirety, is an allegory for 'love is love' at the same time as poking holes at the religious institutions that claim otherwise. The queerness is subtextual, yes, but that's literature for you - the greatest works of art are never the ones that shove the point in your face, but ones that deliver truth wrapped in beautiful lies. It is a sad fact of life that some minds cannot grasp beneath the surface, but here is an article that might help those people get a better understanding of the subtext:

Reading the Queer in Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman

This week Queermunity joins our Managing Editor, Harriet Steele, in her review of Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman's Good Omens - rated 5 sta

But that can also be summarised very nicely and accurately here:

I would hazard a guess that the people who said those things about Neil are probably deeply unhappy, angry people looking through a narrow and shallow lens.

(The paedophile thing is, I think, referencing a character that appears in one episode of the Sandman TV series -- possibly the comics, too, I haven't read all of them -- and yep it is an uncomfortable scene but there are so many other queer characters that are positively represented in so many of his works, and plenty of straight/cis characters that do awful things in that same episode, so... *shrugs* I really don't see their point.)

I haven't read everything Neil has written (although I am working on it!), and I am not fortunate enough to know him personally, but we have interacted a handful of times on here, and in my experience he has always been inclusive, considerate and supportive of the queer community. He spoke kind words to me when I was worried about my nonbinary kiddo's safety with the Tories trying to ban gender affirming language in school, and said he was so glad when I told him that Good Omens had healed mine and my dad's relationship and brought us closer after years of rifts due to my sexuality (update: my dad now wears a Pride pin). When I was at my lowest and my life was falling apart and I sent him a message just thanking him for giving me something to hang on to, and again, he sent the loveliest message of hope and kindness.

I'm not going to tag him here because I wouldn't want him to see the things that were said, but if anyone has any doubts about the man just go to his Tumblr. Take twenty minutes to scroll and see for yourself.

I know I, and many others here, are very grateful to Neil, not just for his representation of queer characters, but his unwavering support and advocacy here and in the real world. He is a light.
