Dazatsu Month 2025 Day 16 Jealousy

Having Atsushi back was like a dream come true. It was as if winter was becoming spring. Snow was melted to bring a new. Kyoka woke up the next morning, practically vibrating out of her skin as soon as her eyelids fluttered open. Her big brother was back! And hopefully here to stay. (Of course, if not she was willing to make some sacrifices. Dazai did spent the last few years pinning- kinda like a wife waiting for her husband to back from war. In fact, the old man spent the whole day in a daze after the coming back. She thinks he tripped a couple times? Totally spazzed when Atsushi swooped down to catch him before he hit the ground with a pickup line. It was as if whatever brains he has had leaked out. It was hilarious.) For one, since four years, her darkest night was filled with the shining moonlight.

Jumping out of bed with the excitement of a child on Christmas Morning, she rushed to get dress for work. She wanted to spend as much time with him before Dazai took off with him. Maybe she could make them breakfast? (Just like old times! When she was fourteen and he was eighteen and all they had to worry about was making it to work on time.) Of course there was her roommate, so she had to make more than for two. (A year and a half ago, the Agency had hired a new member whose ability was so much like their were-tiger. Just less of a giant cat running in wind and more like a bird flying in fire. It also felt more like when big brother Chuuya used Corruption at times.)

Shaking her head, she checked her body mirror with satisfaction- not a single hair out place and walked out the door. The moment she step into the hall, her eyes zeroed in on the door slightly across from hers. It was the room that Atsushi had spent the night in (after panicking Dazai booked it out the moment the silver haired male opened his mouth to ask if he could stay over)- it’s door slightly ajar. There was a dry erase board that wasn’t there before- her brother must have hanged it up last night. The blue eyed girl tilted her head. ‘He’s awake.’ She stated within her mind as she took steps to get closer to the door. There was orange writing on it. She raised a hand and gently brushed her fingers overs the word- not really touching the smooth surface. ‘She/her today. I see, a sister instead of a brother.’ With a sharp understanding nod, the young woman of eighteen headed towards the kitchen.

More like a war zone at a stalemate.

The moment she walked into the connecting rooms of both living and kitchen, she was blasted with the winds of inferno hell. The need for water hit her faster than Akutagawa’s Rashomon.

“Good morning Kyoka.” Atsushi chirped from where she was cooking. A smile painted on her face as she scooped some eggs onto a plate. Her eyes gold like molten lave as they refuse to leave the second figure in the room. Kyoka was impressed. “I cooked breakfast. Hope you don’t mind.”

“Of course not.” Her roommate answered, patting her pink lips clean with a napkin with all the grace of royalty. Her cyan blue eyes side eyeing Atsushi through her red lashes. The room became even more hotter. “It’s rare for us to be treated to a warm heavy meal. Thank you Nakajima-san.”

The moon kissed female bared her teeth in a smile. The facsimile of a sweet smile seeming predatory. “I like to serve Tsukino-san.”

One could choke on the sarcasm.

I know people looooove to insinuate that Zoro doesn’t like Usopp because of Water 7, but I am coming to Zoro’s defense on this (not how you think!). Usopp and Luffy were both acting and reacting based on very heightened emotions. Usopp was utilizing a very common tactic— hurt before you get hurt. Not his best moment, but I think it’s understandable under the circumstances. Luffy, because he’s stubborn and also a little bratty, then countered with a classic baby brother tactic— when they go low, you go lower. The problem with this is that they aren’t just playing in the backyard. People have left their homes and families to follow Luffy. They’re fugitives. The government wants them dead. In normal circumstances, they’d fight and ignore each other and make up. But they can’t do that in this situation because it’s not a game. Zoro was trying to get the two of them to see that. Luffy may be silly. He may be lighthearted and carefree, but he is the captain on their very real pirate crew. There is no time for petty strife. If you quit, you have to mean it. If you remove someone, you also have to mean it. By the time their fight comes around, both Luffy and Usopp already regret their choices and want to just move on, but Zoro forces BOTH of them to face this discomfort and play through it so that they both understand the weight of their choices.

THAT BEING SAID!!!!!!!!! It’s not like Zoro was like “and FUCK that Longnose”… he was the first one of the Romance Dawn trio to ask Usopp to join them. He knows Usopp’s got a big heart. He knows what Usopp brings to the table, even if Usopp doesn’t. He was LIVID when he saw what Franky had done to Usopp!!! But he’s also been around. He’s a famous bounty hunter. For quite a while he was the most famous person on the crew. He’s probably seen tons of crews and watched their dynamics and understands that hierarchy exists for a reason. If you’re following someone without conviction, you’re risking your life every day for someone who can’t stand on his own morals. They can’t afford to do that. And it seems like in these ‘Zoro Hates Usopp’ arguments, they very often leave out the fact that Zoro told Luffy that if he didn’t stand by his choices, he’d leave the crew, too. He was just telling them to stand on the business they’d put out into the world, which I think is a perfectly fair stance to have. We all know that Zoro takes the words he says and the words others say very seriously. This is an extension of that. But it doesn’t mean he hates Usopp or Luffy. He just recognized that if they’re all allowed to hop on and off the crew, and if they’re not able to articulate their feelings without being mutinous, they were doomed to fail.

(I’m going to pause here to acknowledge that Zoro treated Sogeking in the same way that he’s always treated Usopp. They cut up together and he still takes care of him in his own weird way and he trusts him as a crew member. Think about how he treated Robin when he wasn’t sure about her. He didn’t do that here!! It was like “old times”. He still viewed him as a member of the crew.)

And THEN!! AND THEN!!!!! When Sanji tells everyone that he overheard Usopp’s rehearsals and that he intends to come back to the crew, Zoro still says that Usopp needs to apologize to their captain. Because he’s. You know. The captain. Mutiny is a serious action. You can’t just not acknowledge it. It needs to be faced. And Zoro is all hardass about it like “if the first thing he says isn’t an apology we’re leaving him” and then what does he do? He pretends he can’t hear him not apologizing. Usopp goes on for a while, and he pretends he can’t hear anything. And then as soon as Usopp apologizes, he smiles!!! Because he knows it means Usopp is coming home!!!!!!

And I know. I can already hear it. “Well, why didn’t he just not insist on that stuff???” Because the crew needed to figure out that behaving that way had the potential to cost them in ways that are uncomfortable! Yes, we don’t see Luffy doing the same. But I think it’s important to note that they are a crew and there’s essentially only one actual assigned role and that’s Luffy’s role as captain. Even if his decision is stupid they need to follow it. That’s the choice they’ve made. And they can be kind of loosey goosey in every regard except that one. Because if his final say means nothing, that could have catastrophic consequences for everyone. Plus, as readers, we get to see Luffy’s discomfort and remorse plenty. He weeps and tells Zoro that accepting the duel is hard and he hates it and Zoro basically tells him he has to lie in the bed he’s made for himself or he isn’t fit to be captain. And Luffy clearly felt very uncomfortable with the fact that his knee jerk reaction may have cost him his bestie/brother/playmate. He couldn’t even smile convincingly about the prospect of leaving Usopp behind. He felt a level of regret that I’m not sure we see him feel again. I think Zoro put them through their paces pretty equally. Zoro saw Luffy regret his choice and forced him to stand by it, which is his job as a captain. And he insisted that Usopp apologize for his choice, which is his job as a crew member.

Zoro’s intent wasn’t to take sides. He wasn’t operating under the belief that the captain is the only one that can be right. He was trying to get all of them to understand that exploding, quitting, and coming back without acknowledging the source of strife is not a sustainable method of communication for a crew. If they can’t hash it out and own their mistakes or mean what they say, they can’t fully trust each other. And they need a captain with a clear vision. There’s no room for wavering unless they’re ready to lose their lives.

And Usopp comes back and he’s still clinging to Zoro and climbing on him and using him as a shield, so I think they’re just fine.

Dazatsu Month Day 10 and 26 WIP

“Then who the hell is this?”

Dazai Osamu felt as if the world was coming down on him when he looked at body that was not Dostoevsky Fyodor. It was nothing but some dried up mummy of a man that had no defining features. An urge to throw himself onto the ground (this time not out of worried confusion) and roll around until the dirt scrap every inch of his skin off. He wants to grip his greasy, dark, wavy brown hair tightly in his hands and pulled and pull and pull. Pull so hard that it lend to his scalp bleeding from the force.

“During the prison break race….Dostoevsky was frantic.”

Atsushi was in danger.

“He was frantic…because death at my hand or by poison wouldn’t do. What he needed was to be killed by a vampire.”

He was in danger and Dazai was stuck here in Meursault.

The agency was without its dagger in the shadows.

Letting out a snarl, the rust brown eyed man pivoted on his broken leg and ran back into the building. Ignoring the knives carving themselves into his legs.

”Oi! Mackerel! What the face?!” Chuuya barked like the dog in his ear. “Dazai!”

”He’s not dead!” The said man gritted through clenched teeth to stop from shrieking like a banshee. “His ability! We were wrong! I was wrong!”

Those words felt as if he failed. As if all the energy, sweat, and blood he put into his plan meant nothing. Chuuya could be heard stomping right behind him, cursing a storm. From the corner of his eyes, he watched as the shorter scoop up the sleeping Sigma and chased after him. Dazai close his eyes tightly in gratitude that his old partner followed without a second thought. Reopening his eyes, he pushed himself harder to get to the control room.

He had to get in contact with Ango Sakaguchi as fast as he could. Atsushi’s time was running out. Who knew what was happening all this time he was just lying on the ground. Every minute he does nothing was a minute that his best friend loses. A lost minute that his Atsushi gets closer to wha that fucker has planned.

Bump

Thump

Pain shot throughout his body making him gasp and stumble. It was like he was being shot at. Another wave crashed into him as if Kenji struck him full power. It was far worst then a gunshot as he fell to his knees. Chuuya skid to a stop with a shout. Pain clawed its way into him as if it was a tiger mauling its teeth into the soft belly of its prey. He vomited up what little dinner he had eaten earlier as he tried digging his fingers into white tiles.

“Son of a bitch.” The orange lovelock haired man cursed as he put his cargo on the ground. He raced towards the pain-in his ass of an ex-partner, worry sketching itself on to his face. “You took the antidote right? Hey shithead! Did you take the antidote?”

Practically coughing up a lung, all Dazai could do was nod his head. He wanted to snark at the idiotic slug because he was there when the ex-demon stabbed the needle into his skin. It hurts. It hurts. It hurts. He thought as he grabbed his throat and started to rake his short nails into skin wasn’t covered by bandages. This cause the other to freak and try to pull his hands away.

Watery Rust brown eyes peered deep into wide bight ocean blue eyes. (He could see hint of green swirling around like a full moon tidal wave. For a moment he couldn’t help but wish that his personal little moonlight that is his sweet little Atsushi, would never meet the tsunami that is Chuuya Nakahara. Only to remember that they had met and both could never look away from each other. As if they were the moon and sea locked in a dance no human should witness. Dazai had never once felt the need to raze the city to the ground until the day he found them trapped in the elevator.)

“Osamu!”

The world went black.
