Hello, I go by Fern. This blog is my creativity hub for writing, art, and poetry. As well as a place where I can share my original characters.
Because this blog operates an organizational hub what I’ve written may move around and change as I iron out details. So if something seems like it was different than before, it was. I just changed it.
Dude this is awesome! Of course they’d love music.
We'll probably never get actual Miraluka lore, i doubt disney will even acknowledge their existance. So I thought it'd be fun to imagine what their society would be like.
Miraluka forever see through the force, their connection to the force is so strong they can feel major events from other planets. Their vision allows them to see through objects, see the force, etc.
Thinking about this, implies their buildings and ships wouldn't need windows. Windows are structrual weaknesses and to a MIraluka would be irrelevant asf, as walls are basically windows. Even lights wouldn't be needed, the concept of light and dark would be entirely different to a Miraluka to others.
As their entire race sees through objects, things like nudity would mean very little to Miraluka. Although they can see the clothes you're wearing, they can also see through it (not intentionally). Because of how open their views are (pun intended) Miraluka would generally live amongst their own kind, non-miraluka would most likely find it awkward to live amongst the Miraluka because of just how much they see. Fortunately Miraluka are very emotional and understanding of other species, they wear coverings over their eyesockets because other species find it very offputting.
Because they can't see colours, their art would be based around the force or music. Miraluka art would be less about sight and more about feelings, their art would radiate certain emotional or spiritual feelings through the force. To a nonforce sensitive, it may look bland but they'd undoubtably be able to feel the emotions off of their art.
There are many objects in the Star Wars galaxy which are force sensitive, the most common are kyber crystals used for lightsabers but as all living things have the force, plants would be very beautiful to Miraluka and it's probably the only things they use to liven up their homes. Gardening and tending to plants would be considered a spiritual practice and very cathartic to a Miraluka.
*Holds up like a proud parent,* -This is my boy,, this one is mine-,, you may have seen him running around over here,, don’t mind him- he’s on break <33
His name is Zephyr ✨- [and this is the most solid reference I’ve got of him,, see inconsistent references below <33]
And now??? Introducing a passionate rant about the big brother esc goofball no one has seen yet
[passionate rant below cut]
Essentially, what I’ve got going so far is Zephyr used to be a renowned competitive racer before the war back on Cybertron, he lived for the tracks and often received citations for speed racing through civilian streets. That was until his street friend caught wind of a race academy located somewhere near Iacon where they could both learn how to compete professionally
They both entered and on their first official race someone ended up wiping out, bad, so Zeph dropped back to help em out and they gained a third friend that day
As a young upstart Zephyr began gaining some crazy popularity, blissfully [intentionally??] ignorant of the state of the government. [kinda the same mentality as the phrase, “If I can’t see it? Then it doesn’t exist ✨”]. That is, until one day he wiped out on the track, even worse than was considered possible at the time, and he got sent into a coma before the war officially started.
During his time in stasis, Zeph’s friends had a huge argument about the morality of the war and ended up choosing different sides of the fight before they could reconcile. Only one of them openly appeared to hold onto the hope that Zephyr was going to recover [though they both secretly visited after their fight anyways] His first friend later decided that the hospital, the stasis that would never end, the loss of both his friends, was too much for him and he effectively ejected Zephyr from the hospital as an act of mercy, so fate might deal with him as it pleased.
Zephyr woke up from stasis years later after the pod he was being housed in got blown up and some dormant fear based adrenaline kicked in.
What began as a blissfully ignorant coping skill, after running into some friendly [neutral] wanderers, Zeph continued his race training,, determined to compete the second the war essentially “fixed itself” [even tho his engines haven’t been running quite right ever since his wake from stasis] but over time, he trained less and less as the inpermanence of his dream began to set in
He had some misadventures and those lead me to where he is now,, stuck in a war, no idea what’s going on, trying to find his two original friends, both of whom he doesn’t know hate each other 😌🫶
[and once he does- he founds a secret faction, dedicated to drawing neutral territory between bots and cons after he got his friends back together/ and everything was good for a bit until one very bad day, his faction got exposed and practically everyone he had instilled hope into got ripped to shreds- [including one of his friends[they died]]]
He wanders around kinda aimlessly nowadays as a husk of who he once wanted to be. His only friend rejoined the Autobots. -And he gave up any hope for peace ever :D👍
… until-
Some quick Bumblebee headshots, was gonna do more, but then Jazz decided he didn’t want to be drawn. So maybe another day.
Nothing quite like Slavery and being denied learning to make you crave it the moment you’re free. Now she is a true master of ancient knowledge.
For Aresyl 📚and 🎮?
Thanks so much for the ask!!
📚 BOOKS — what level of education has your oc most recently completed/is currently in (GED, undergraduate, grad school, phd, etc)?
Aresyl has a really complicated education history. In her youth she was pretty much taught the bare minimum- she could read and count, at least. As soon as she was able, she made up for lost times by reading a lot. Around this time her fascination with history was sparked and grew an obsession with learning from the past. Aresyl was head of the Sphere of Ancient Knowledge on the Dark Council, making her the historic advisor for the Empire. She’s one of the only people in the galaxy that can fluently read, write, and speak the ancient sith language. So, in terms of history (especially pertaining to the force and the sith empire) she’d definitely be PhD. She was also able to catch up on reading pretty easily, but in terms of math and science… not so much.
🎮 VIDEO GAME CONTROLLER — what are three of your oc's favorite hobbies?
-Aresyl loves to spend her free time studying! After living so long without any education, she craved to read up on as much as she could, overcompensating for lost time. Aresyl spends most of her free time studying history, politics, and occasionally (as a special treat) philosophy. She’s a huge history buff, but she also spends a lot of time brushing up on galactic languages.
-By the time Aresyl became Alliance commander, she’d grown a large and genuine interest in people and will spend an unusual amount of time getting to know her employees/the people she works with. Her interest might come across as disarming considering her cold demeanor, but after spending so much time in the Sith Empire, Aresyl learned to quickly identify and respect the good in people. It became fun and important for Aresyl to get to know the people around her.
-Theron and Aresyl are two very busy people, so they formed a silent pact to spend time together going on casual strolls away from the Alliance. It started when Theron noticed how frequently Aresyl would wander around Odessen on her own. Theron would offer to join, and Aresyl enthusiastically accepted. Overtime, it became an expected pastime. Aresyl would mention needing some air, and Theron would meet her outside. These walks were always important to them, because it was one of the only chances they had to slow down away from all the drama. It was a chance for the conversation to steer away from politics or galaxy-saving, although some days the work weighed so heavily on them it seemed like they didn’t have anything else to talk about. On those days they would happily walk without exchanging a word- the important thing was just that they had each other's comfort.
Thoughts about Crodek and Tatooine
Crodek retracing Jaesa’s training arc through the desert gave me some thought which I’ll share. First off Crodek selected Vette as the companion to dragging with him because he thought her treasuring hunting would be well suited to their Padawan tracking expedition. Vette’s Commentary and complaints have seriously made him regret that choice.
The moment where he faced his reflection in the cave was huge story moment for him. Crodek was wearing a good because he looks fantastic with hoods, so his shadow was wearing a hood as well in the cutscene which made things that much more menacing and thematic.
His reflection acoused Crodek of not following the Sith ways and not be dark enough (for reference Crodek is pretty neutral with slightly more light than dark points) Crodek immediately refutes this by saying “I am Dark!”Which he genuinely believes. Crodek completely considers himself Sith and doesn’t see his own actions as contrary to Sith doctrine. This man has been told by so many different people that he is unusual Sith, and he is just like no, I’m an exemplary Sith.
The fact Crodek thinks this why is just so funny to me.
This dude a piece of work in enjoyable sort of way.
Ammix Kirollan is from a long line of Sith and fancies himself a new, more progressive voice in a tradition he thinks could be better. This does not mean he's a nice or good person, but more that he thinks Sith philosophies and fear and hatred and violence should be made accessible to more people. Like, Jadus, without the supervillain monologues. If you met this man, you would probably want to stab him, except then he'd be proud of you as he's Force choking you in revenge and that's just bizarre.
Ammix genuinely thinks being violent and casually cruel is a sign of strength - the aesthetically strong man who has never contended with his own problems and instead chooses to stab his way past them. He also thinks he is imparting some great wisdom on others when he tries to share this concept with them. Because adults who are not already entrenched in imperialism and fascism don't tend to listen when a guy holds them at lightsaber-point and says "you'd be so much happier if you weren't afraid to kill people," he finds that youths are more... Receptive... To his "teachings."
So he becomes an abusive adoptive father. His children are raised to compete for approval, stab each other in the back metaphorically if not literally to come out on top, and to mistreat those "lesser" in order to prove their own strength and worth. Some thrive on this (or at least think that they do - they truly do not) but most either crumple under the emotional and physical abuse or, like Del'qarev, cut Ammix and the other kids off as soon as possible. Ammix doesn't get why - Del is one of his success stories, risen to the role of Emperor's Wrath, and he thinks he's the one who got Del there. Talking to Ammix always gives an impression of a genuinely cordial man up until someone does something to displease him, and then the real Sith comes out.
(playing him in-game reveals the same paternalistic energy - it's how he behaves toward Jaesa, who he definitely makes fall, and he actually appreciates Quinn's betrayal as much as he hates it because that is how to do it! The friendliest of my dark-side characters, and the most horrifying because of it)
I think i cracked it, the reason everything produced in the times of the High Republic is soo good compared to modern Star Wars, tldr its because of pain.
See, in all the works that date during the High Republic (specifically during George's ownership of SW) there's this fearlessness to show pain and tragedy and death, and i know it sounds like "everything for the children these days is sanitized!" but think for a second if Revenge of the Sith would be something Disney would publish these days and that's your answer, but that's just a tangent meant to emphasize the difference between Og SW and new SW, because what Og SW had was strife, and you the viewer knew that, because every time you booted up KOTOR or played Phantom Menace you knew what was coming, you knew to expect the isle of happiness in which the characters lived to slowly sink beneath the waves of tragedy and you'll see it happen as the characters around the story just dug up their own fates, in very much George Lucas fashion, and THAT is what made the work and the small moments of levity to taste so much sweeter, because you see the characters who you've grown attached to suffer so un-justly that when you return to the good times you can't help but appreciate the good and mourn it's departure.
The reason new SW does not achieve this is because the characters are dealing with the aftermath of the destruction of the baddies, its the birth of the hope for the future, its when you look at the horizon at the END of the movie, yes new problems may arise but the big hurdle is done and Disney didn't cultivate the joy from the Alliance's victory as it should, because instead of giving us proper post-war optimism (as it fits the real life post WW2 countries counterparts and fantasy sci-fi proper) it stuck only with the brooding post-war trauma, and while yes, that is also a very realistic take it still lacked verily from the former and thus there is no reason why we should mourn a character's strife if that is all we've seen from them, its like watching paint dry, nothing particularly changes, just a new villain here and there, the new character discovers new powers, new info, but there is no resolution, no reward for their strife, and even if they were going for a bleak post-war future (which they didn't and it also doesn't fit SW's constant theme of hope for a better future) it still ends up looking incomplete for the mere reason that they don't want to shut the book in case they need to milk the cow some more.
My point with all this was not to bash new SW though, my point was to use it as a comparison to highlight how Og SW built itself on a foundation of hope, how it showed us the height before the fall, how it is possible to make Shakespeare in space and leave all of us with broken hearts and looking hopefully into the future.
This is my very messy design process for Bumblebee. I wanted to incorporate Micheal Bay’s antenna and doorwings. Which tie into to his namesake. Plus they’re very expressive, and I feel that expressiveness suits Bee.
I read Bob Budiansky g1 profile on Bee to try and understand him better. It said that he was in espionage, which surprised me since he is usually depicted as a Scout that graduates to warrior. Interestingly his weakness on the profile was being physically frail. So a small, quick ambush fighter was born.
The thing that really got the creative juices flowing was that he has good sensors for on land and WATER reconnaissance. So here is an aquatically capable Bumblebee.
His altmode is his cybertron one from the g1 cartoon. It hovers by the use of magnets since cybertron is a metal planet, this is quite handy. The magnets are the blue circles.
Bee has vents to cool his internals. His vents have the added ability to provide propulsion for liquid based travel. On his alt mode these vents serve as his front grill and back grill, allowing him to shoot forward and backward. At speed.
These propulsion vents can be used in root mode as well they’re on the back of his calf’s, forearms, shoulders, and upper back.
His door wings are on the back of his vehicle mode where they function like the tail feathers of a bird.
Mictransformations! His alt mode has one where the ‘wing’ part of his alt mode segments into four independent parts. This gives him more mobility for uneven terrain. These can adjust to currents (land, sea, EM) while simultaneously gathering information on said currents.
Overall Bee is entirely a multi terrain information gatherer. Perfect for infiltration and espionage. Which accomplishes my design goals. Also I love the fact that his alt mode looks like both a string ray and a pupa. It’s awesome!
This is some serious food for thought.
ya know, chapter one of the Jedi Consular story is actually really sad if you take a lightside path. You have this character who barely gets to be a knight before it’s rushing off and their Masters life is suddenly in their hands and then before they really have time to process that, it’s off to save other Jedi because they are the only one who knows how to save them. The next months are spent fighting your own people who mock, and belittle, and insult you, and your just constantly reaching out and trying and and it’s not meant honestly because they’re sick but I mean that’s going to wear on a person after a bit, especially a young Jedi who may not even be fully sure of their place in the order yet.
