Character profile;
Name: Dazai Jisatsuย
Name origin: "Jisatsu" may or may not directly translate into "suicide" from Japanese ๐ญ I mean it's fitting though?ย
Gender: male, he/him
Family: Osamu, Chuuya, Shiwasu (older twin sister)
Ability name: A Human's Sorrow
Ability description: my friend (@mi1ikan) came up with this mishmash of Soukoku's abilities; basically, Jisatsu can "kidnap" and take an ability user's ability just by touching them, and he doesn't need to keep constant contact to keep nullifying. The longer he keeps the ability "captive" the more it damages his health though (similar to Chuuya's damage during Corruption). The more abilities he kidnaps all at once, the faster his health deteriorates. When he "kidnaps" an ability his appearance changes, his hair goes from brown to orange and his eyes go from blue to a reddish-brown (so he can't really hide when he's taken an ability)
Age: 19
Height: 5'11
Occupation(s): student, Port Mafia executiveย
Likes: alcohol, dogs, teasing others, fashion, going for drives to clear his mind
Dislikes: pain, dogs, rats, hard work, death
Birthday: August 13th
Hair color(s): brown (changes to orange)
Eye color(s): blue (changes to a reddish-brown)
~~
I really can't draw oh my God he looks like a serial killer and a fuckboy at the same time ๐ญ๐ I'm sorry my art skills can't do his justice ๐
This series of artworks/characters has been really fun tbh, I really liked making Jisatsu. (And while illustrating all these semi-OCs I'll still be experimenting with digital art lmao)
He's the second youngest person to become a Port Mafia executive (at 19; Dazai holds the record at 18). His sister Shiwasu is also an executive at 19, but since she's older she's third youngest (they were both promoted at the same time).
Jisatsu is a happy kid, and while he's a bit of a tease he's not an idiot. He gets work done (although not quickly) and he's capable of taking care of himself, he's liked by most people
Next is Ranpoe :D
Howdyy, Whatโs your fav bsd character? :3
Hello! :]
Omggg that's a tough one
I love a lot of the characters but if I had to pick just one, I'd say Akutagawa. He's been my favorite for like, ever, and he's just so amazing
He can be blunt and cold and rude but also he's written so well with his bloodlust and struggles and how he's still not purely evil in the end. I love everything about him ๐
My other favorites are definitely Atsushi (he's so sassy and strong but also a cinnamon roll like cmon he's perfect, I love him), Adam (the most underrated bean is existence, I would die for Adam), Nikolai (he's so crazy and wild, yet somber, idk I just love his whole vibe as a character), Dazai (I know how basic this is but I will never not love Dazai, he's such a pivotal and deep character, his angst turns me into a waterfall), Chuuya (who doesn't love Chuuya ๐ he's loyal and strong and such a fun and emotional character aaa I love him), Higuchi (she's definitely one of my comfort characters, I love her in Wan! bc she adds a great lighthearted touch to everything), Kyouka (she's so underrated, she's so adorable and resilient and honestly I love how she was written) and Bram (he's so stoic and literal, I just love him. I totally didn't cry when he died. I'm not crying you're crying)
Help that ended up long. But yeah, there's some quick summaries on my favorites in Bsd :>
Can we talk about how *safe* Atsushi and Akutagawa feel with each other
How much they're connected to each other is actually insane
They have innate trust with each other (Akutagawa even gave his coat to Atsushi), and they're comfortable with each other, it's wonderful
I think the best depiction of canon "domestic sskk" per se, is in beast
The direct passage from the beast light novel is:
"They continued to shoot the breeze for the next few minutes or so. Both boys shared small yet profound experiences that their colleagues would never be able to understand or even empathize with. The two of them could just be kids, something they seldom did around others.
'This is the first time I've ever been able to talk to someone like this,' the white-haired boy said with a chuckle."
They can relate to each other so strongly, they're opposites yet they feel intertwined. God they have such a well written and like at this point really romantic relationship
I really like how beast can show us a new perspective on sskk (among other things in the Bsd universe), comparing their first meeting in the main series to their first meeting in beast is kinda crazy. When Akutagawa nor Atsushi has the prior information of who they work for, they can get along. In a world with no abilities, no Mafia, no detective agency, they would know each other so well
Also, I'm sure Akutagawa has smiled more than twice in the series, but both most memorable times he's smiled they were both directed at Atsushi (one smile was the one he gave Atsushi while he told him to run before dying, second smile was in beast, shown in the picture above)
It's like Atsushi brings out the best of him, and vice versa. They're just so *perfect* for each other ๐ญ
I will always love their parallels and similarities, their relationship balance is a perfect representation of the yin and yang
Atsushi knows he can't bear to live without Akutagawa. Akutagawa knows that Atsushi is the only person he's ever met who really, truly understands him. And no matter how much they're in denial about how they're a lot more than just "rivals", they still scream each other's names when one of them gets hurt, because they both *care*
Akutagawa is definitely going to go feral in the next chapter or so oml
THE SSKK ONE HAS A BIGGER MEANING NOW
apologies to anyone who ever thought i was cool and reached out to me only to discover i am just a weird little hermit who can't carry on a conversation to save my life
sskk fans (me) really won with this chapter i will never get over it.
โAnd thenโฆ and thenโฆโ AND THEN WHAT AKUTAGAWA? YOU FELL IN LOVE??
@mi1ikan Bsd analysations are scary but also amazing
Doing my usual "lets go back and read random BSD chapters" and I can't help but notice how different Fyodor is now to when he was first introduced.
I've made a few posts pointing out how Fyodor and Dazai have similar panels, but I'm starting to think he's actually mimicking Dazai's mannerisms on purpose now.
I don't have a lot of canon proof other than, ~a feeling~, I get looking at him, so consider this a headcanon rather than a theory.
Warning Manga spoilers under the cut!
Like, Fyodor, why does this keep happening??? Fyodor's versions of these poses also all happen later in the manga than Dazai's versions.
Now, there's the argument that Fyodor wasn't there for half of these, but we do know he's a hacker and he was obsessed with Dazai for a time. I do believe he would just sit there watching Dazai's movements on cameras to learn his patterns and habits in the name of defeating him.
Compare how he holds himself now, to how he did when he was first introduced.
He's a shut in who bites his nails, doesn't take care of his posture or appearance. He's so used to being behind the curtains he's off putting to be directly around.
Whereas Dazai is a chameleon, he blends in anywhere he goes. If I was an immortal so out of touch with my own humanity and basic identity, I probably pick someone to mimic their behaviours too.
Ironic that he choose the man who doesn't consider himself human to learn from.
I'm also drawn to this panel specifically.
(Very suspicious choice of words there, considering the current manga arc, but I digress)
Typically when we think of vampires, we think of blood sucking immortals, but the vampire we have in BSD is based of Dracula. Dracula specifically poses the question of "What if vampires stole who you are as well?". The idea that you can't consume someone's very life without having their soul linger on with you.
The Count learns to blend in with modern society through Johnathan, from learning from him and by feeding off him. Mina, Renfield and Lucy all slowly lose who they are the more influence the Count has over them.
This panel says he's soulless, he's 'empty', he's a vampire waiting to steal someone else's soul to fill him up. Now, that could be a hint at what his ability turned out to be, but it could also mean how he's mimicking Dazai.
But why mimic Dazai?
Well, simply put, he was the only one Fyodor saw as an equal and we know he wanted a companion who he considered to be his equal. So why not make himself more like the man he wants at his side. To obtain Dazai, he became Dazai.
Problem is Dazai hates himself, he also seems to dislike any character that's convinced they are the same. (Note: Not characters Dazai sees himself in, like Atsushi, but characters who insist to him that they are the same, like Mori and Fyodor)
It was a doomed plot from the start.
However, Dazai is no longer his goal. Atsushi is. Fyodor knows Atsushi greatly admires Dazai, so continuing to mimic Dazai's mannerisms to connect them together in Atsushi's mind could be part of his plan now.
Atsushi saw Akutagawa's past. He learned about Akutagawa's trauma. He knows how Akutagawa was treated, how he was taught, what he was put through.
He understands Akutagawa now
He fully sees Akutagawa for his humanity now
Atsushi has seen Akutagawa's darkest, most vulnerable side now
And that's just so...
I can't even put it into words oh my God, their relationship is so complex and heartfelt I'm screaming
I have a feeling that Akutagawa doesn't mind Atsushi seeing his past, seeing him at weakest, lowest point
I think their trust runs deeper than that
Also Akutagawa isn't alone anymore. Nor is Atsushi, because they have each other. Akutagawa has someone who knows and tells him he isn't weak, Atsushi has someone who can be by his side and save him. I feel like without each other they aren't complete
A random drawing of Akutagawa inspired by the latest Aku art from chapter 120.5
The scar I drew on his neck is well...from you know what. Also the rose in his bleeding eye socket is a silver rose because silver roses represent protection and he's Atsushi's knight/protecter
