WIP. One of Cleopatra's occupations is portrait commissions for vampires who can't see their reflections. Pierce is a born model.

Proud of my Regency Era furniture (and my humans), though something still seems a little wonky. I don't know much by way of perspective or proportion, so that's one of the skills I hope to improve this year.

Overheard my last two braincells talking. Decided they sounded like these two. The Daroga should get a new emotional support Phantom. This one isn't working.

Would YOU pass the vampire certification test?

My name is Amanda, and I listen to Taylor Swift, so I get to make these jokes. Zaida is a real name for a Victorian vampire-witch lady from Aylmer Vance and the Vampire.

As much as I adore gamourous vamp fashion, @vladimirsangel and I were talking about how we would be a danger to the public if we wore anything fancy. I would wreck a white tuxedo with vampiric speed, but at least it won't be a health hazard.

I meant to draw my 'sucker for blood suckers' t-shirt, but miscalculations were made.

Silliness aside, being scatterbrained and fidgety is not the only trait of ADHD. When I read that rejection sensitive dysphoria is a part of the ADHD gift pack, I nearly punched the person next to me. That's the only way I can describe how gobsmacked I was. So much of my social problems come from not wanting to risk getting rejected - and my assumption that everyone reacts to rejections as badly.

Anyway, have a prehistoric taco fish.

Context: the great Count Dracula has no servants. Blood-slaves? Thralls to his hypnotism? Nah. Just little old him and three vampire ladies who don't help with the chores and try to steal his snacks (and/or his lawyer).

I just started a new journal for the first time in years. Of course, I'm addressing my entries to Count Dracula.

I quote: 'let this Undead creature address her woes to a dead Undead who wouldn't care less if she was putrefying from coffin-rot (bed-rot).'

I had to find some way to amuse myself while trying to be my own therapist.

9. Does your character swear? Do they remember their first swearword? Pierce doesn't swear much, though he loves a saucy euphemism. He was in with a very... radical, wild crowd when he was young, he definitely learned a thing or two. Cleopatra was born in the Noughties, she has an extensive mental curseword dictionary but prefers creative insults . Her first swear was 'shite.' Sarah swears every few sentences, mostly 'hell' and 'damn', which were pretty bad in the 1700s, but she also uses slurs (which are never actually written out - once she 'called Pierce a name') that were common back then.

14. What animal are they afraid of? Pierce is afraid of terriers. He likes most dogs, but the small kind makes him jumpy. His fears change depending on what animal form he's taking, really. Cleopatra is afraid of fishes. She thinks they look very creepy in the water. Aquariums make her intensely uncomfortable, but she also enjoys it. Sarah is afraid of vampires. They symbolise corruption and depravity, but most of all because she is tempted by the power they have.

2. How easy is it to make them laugh? Pierce and Cleopatra are a pair of clowns at a funeral. They laugh easily, joke weirdly, and fill my carefully crafted gothic atmosphere with too much comedy. Sarah laughs at people's misfortune. Especially when it's Pierce.

4. How easy is it to earn their trust? Pierce trusts on instinct; luckily, it usually works, and he has a gaurd dog (Sarah). Cleopatra holds people at arms length, but she's so outwardly sweet that it's hard to tell. Earning Sarah's trust would take a lifetime, and you'd probably be wasting your time.

5. How easy is it to earn their mistrust? You'd have to do something really horrible to Pierce's Undead heart to earn his mistrust. Cleopatra, fairly easily, but she gives second chances. You have Sarah's mistrust by default.

8. What are they told to stop doing as a child? Little Pierce brought home creatures and friends that he begged to keep but were probably no good for him. When he was older, he had to be told to stop squandering the family fortune. Little Cleopatra had to be removed from her room to be introduced to human company. Little Sarah bit people, swore a lot and terrorised her governesses.

13. Oh, this is a good one! The trio dress according to the three Gothic colours, red white and black. Pierce wears white and pale colours, signifying his role as the 'innocent.' Cleopatra wears red, vitality and passion. Sarah dresses in black, Doom and Gloom and severity.

15. How do they speak? Pierce is equally fluent in eloquent flirting, undignified emotional monologues and spontanious yapping. Cleopatra changes her style according to who she's talking to and what she thinks they expect of her. Sarah has two gears: swearing and death-threats or cold politeness with discreet sarcasm.

17. Are they easily embarrassed? Pierce gets flustered when he meets someone as good at innuendo as him. Cleopatra used to be self-conscious, but not anymore. Sarah is proud, she reacts badly to being demeaned.

20. How would they explain the difference between familial, platonic, and romantic love?Pierce would say platonic and romantic loves are chosen, but familial love isn't, and the difference between platonic love and romantic love is that with romantic love, there's the desire to become part of that person and have a part of them inside you (metaphorically... I think he knows how that sounds). Cleopatra would say the difference is the places they hold in your life and that many kinds of love can't be pinned down. Sarah believes any kind of love is an obligation.

27. What causes them to feel dread? Pierce: when people fall out of love with him. Cleopatra: the sense of being worthless, helpless or purposeless. Sarah: she'd be the last to say so, but she has a fear for anything that cause her physical or emotional harm.

30. Who do they most regret meeting? Pierce can't really wrap his little brain around regret, but he does have many of them. Deep down, he regrets meeting the vampire who made him a vampire. Sarah and Cleopatra both regret meeting Pierce at some point.

A. Are you excited about your oc(s)? Yes. I write about them every day. They don't always give me an easy time, but I love it.

B. What inspired you to create them? Pierce was originally just a happy vampire, but then I started basing him on Dorian Gray, and then I realised that he has a lot of me in him. Cleopatra has a lot of my own traits. Sarah was based on the actress Sarah Bernhardt in the beginning, but now she's a completely different character and only her name, appearances and sass are the same.

D. Have their physical appearance changed? Pierce was once tall. It gave me a shock to read my description of his tallness in earlier drafts. Sarah's dress and hair changed when I changed her backstory. Cleopatra is unchanged, except that I decided that her hair isn't naturally ginger.

Message in a bottle.

I wanted to get this in writing and throw it into the void. It's either this or try to have a Victor Frankenstein-esque breakdown, which will take too much time and effort. So. This is my monologue about my melancholia and spite. Into the void it goes.

One of my professors was talking about how they think dropping courses shouldn't be an option and went on to tell a long tale of their own perseverance, how you must do things you don't like to achieve in life, why giving up means you're not trying.

And I was sitting there thinking that if I don't make Great Achievements in the future, my story would be told as a lesson. 'She was a bright student, but she couldn't take pressure and dropped out. All that potential, wasted. So stick to the path we've given you and go through with it no matter how much we stack the odds against you and how much you hate it.'

The most ridiculous part? If I do achieve their idea of success, they'll be saying how great it is to be yourself and how their wonderful, inclusive, tolerant system gives you the resources to follow your dreams.

Sometimes, I wish I'm not too weak of mind to take the chances I've been given. I wonder if I'm not struggling, just too soft and too vain to to proper hard work.

Then I try to remember that that's not me talking. That's the voice of people who don't know me and don't try to, talking in my head. The times I've been squashed down, the times I had to make myself small to fit in - all that is real, and it hurt me. None of the people who tell me I'm doing well saw when I was breaking down right under their noses. It's time to go.

It's not easy to choose according to your own judgement, especially when that judgement goes against the values of the people around you. There will be people who support you, if you're lucky, but you will have nobody to follow. And that's frightening. I hope I'll have the strength to say, I'll have it no other way.

The Phantoms meet Love Never Dies Phantom. They are Unamused. I refuse to accept that this Phiasco Phantom is the same entity as the Phantom from the original musical.

I swear I have never been this excited about an advent calendar and just in case it wasn't clear I am a grown adult but I am bouncing around like a child.

He's meeting for the first time a vampire who looks a bit more like him (Count Orlok) and that vampire is a movie star and they're watching his new movie and they got the big novelty coffin popcorn bucket and they got to bring the pet rats and and and....

It's so lovely. Merry Christmas to all who celebrate and Happy Nosferatu to everyone in general.

New vampire just dropped! This one is tall, dark and handsome, I'm afraid, because he stars in a romance I've been challanged to write. I'll bet my small, blond and pretty vampire Mr Pierce has a crush on him.

I hope to finish the first draft of this seasonal vampire romance before Christmas, though I'm not sure if this is humanly possible for me. Below is a bit of the plot and a peek into my writing process, which involves a lot of sarcasm:

I've read very few romance books because it's bad for my health. I swear it makes that one happy braincell in my brain start wheezing and sputtering for dear life.

One thing that gets my goat is those female leads who are trying to hard to be weird. The author wants them to be 'just a girl' but also 'not like other girls.' The love interest from It Ends With Us used that exact words 'You're not like the other girls' many times.

Author, that is a painfully normal - I won't say boring but oh look I just did - human being.

The message these romances are trying to send is: 'You can be weird and still get noticed by a tall, dark and handsome man with a high income (that last point is just coincidence because we don't care about money)!' But the message I'm receiving is: 'You can be weird in a conventionally understandable and acceptable way and still get noticed by...'

Because all of the 'weird' leads are exactly like the people around me who I never fit in with. So if THEY'RE weird, what does that make me? Frankenstein's Monster?

(This is not me comparing myself to the expectations set by the romance genre. This is me saying its portrayal of people is skewered.)

I challenge romance authors to be locked in a Gothic castle cellar with me. They won't use the phrase 'not like other girls' lightly after that.

Time to return to vampires and gloomy fog, I need a pick-me-up. Dracula, my friend, is it Zoo Theft today or Stupid Sunhat Day?

I'm tired, so have some Pierce being unintentionally funny.

All of these happened during intense scenes or fight sequences. I didn't realise as I was writing that they're pure slapstick. All the Gothic elements of toxic people, betrayal, loneliness and misery are present in the story, but as Van Helsing puts it, King Laugh refuses to be shut out. Sorry, Pierce, you have a kooky author.

The contents of a parcel has just been yeeted onto my desk, and half-finished Fluffy Erik was caught in the midst. He looks rightfully Unamused.

He's still missing a few buttons, boots and his trousers, but otherwise, I'm very proud of the little chap. I've made him three masks, and he'll model them for you soon.
