Before I get into the main post, I wanted to adress the tags. I appreciate you being unbiased, and respectful towards my own opinions on the Marauders, truly appreciate it. Also, I don’t remember seeing you interacting with the post, and I can’t really go back to the post and its notifications since I deleted it and also muted the notifications received from reblogs. Either way, I think the comments were fine, my main concern were the anonymous asks I was receiving. Neither you, nor any other Snape stan have to apologize, by the way. I know the death threats were wrong, but I am also partly to blame considering that I recognize that I came off very aggressive, so I guess you can say that I also have tone issues. I am okay, thank you for asking.
Now, on to the main point of this post. For the Marauders’ Era of the rewrite, since there’s so little that we know of them, it’ll follow some of the main plots like the “The Prank”, the Sectumsempra incident, the Marauders becoming Animagi and such. However, once they graduate, I’ll take matters into my own hands. I think that the Marauders’ era will be more about fixing the original, messy worldbuilding and making the war to be a bit darker. I’m excited, as I’ve got a couple of twists up my sleeves.
Anyway, I hadn’t really considered the scenes when Remus and Sirius try to keep Harry from going nuts on the assumptions that Snape is a Death Eater by this I mean I completely forgot about that, but if you can tell me which chapters, I’ll be sure to reread them and see how it works for me. Thank you!
I do believe a lot of what we’re canonically shown through Snape’s memories, I just have a hard time believing that it’s exactly as he says it is because there’s also a lot of other things that we also know that really don’t match up for me. However, you’re right. The Marauders, as we’ve seen several times, were more about actions than words - which I think worked well (given all the lengths they went for each other, and later, for Lily), but also horribly (considering how they would react to getting insulted).
In my rewrite, I want to balance it out a bit so that it’s them constantly trying to one-up each other because of their rivalry (sort of like Harry and Draco). But, like I said, once the Marauders cross the line to humiliate Snape, a lot is going to shift for them.
I would love to chat with you about personal headcanons or theories, as I find myself enjoying that quite a bit! Only if you’d like to, of course.
I have some advice for a way to portray the Marauders and Snape's relationship! They bullied him, but Snape was never defenseless (except for That Prank) and I think it started from some animosity on the train during their first year, them Snape continued to be a jerk. Snape seemed to be the only person that they were constantly picking on, so must've done something to earn their ire. They were pranksters, but not normally bullies. Most of the students and teachers had mostly good things to say about them.
I think a good way to portray it is that the Marauders and Snape constantly being at each other's throats in small, petty ways. The Marauders would only go after Snape when he deserved it or was being extra bloodcult-y. They were bullies because they all ganged up on him, but I don't think that was always the case.
I think they had some kind of moral code - they were Gryffindors after all, if nothing else, their honor would've stopped them from always going after him physically - so it was usually just one on one or two to one. The others would be the lookouts, or help them plan. They'd insult him and he'd fire right back.
Most of their pranks were harmless, I think, except for The Prank. Mostly cutting words and petty actions that didn't mean much at the time, but mounted up to he quite annoying.
Hope this helps!
Hey Anon!
Firstly, thank you for the advice. I really appreciate it.
Secondly, I've been interacting with some Snape stans because I wanted him to be humanized. Snape, as well as the Marauders, are going to have a lot of flaws, but also a lot of good traits. There are going to be times in which the Marauders prank Snape unprovoked. There are going to be other times where it is going to be Snape who's going after them.
We're going to see a lot of Snape's softer side during their fifth and sixth years, after his relationship with Lily ends. Lily will be grieving for their lost friendship, and will sometimes talk about fond memories with Snape. I don't want to spoil it too much, that is all you'll be getting.
Now, Snape is not going to be defenseless. He will lash out and get his revenge when he feels is needed. But neither will the Marauders. For the majority of the story, it's going to be a mutual rivalry, until the moment they humiliated him in front of the school - this incident is going to shift something within a lot of people, for the better or for the worst.
JK Rowling is the author to a well-loved book series known as the Harry Potter series. They’re books that, whether we want to admit it or not, helped shape our childhood and, therefore, who we are today.
For years, many of us only managed to see the illusion she had created for us to see. Myself included. But as the years passed, the mask Rowling had carefully crafted for the public cracked, and the ugliness she carries within shone through.
Many of us had no clue of how truly troublesome she and her books really are until we got slapped in the face with reality. I, for one, failed to see the racism, homophobia, and ironically, the sexism within the books when I read them as a child.
Here are a couple of things from the HP series that just scream ‘internalized misogyny’ to me:
—Feminine Girls = Bad—
This trope is seen constantly throughout the series. We see girls like Lavender Brown, Parvati Patil, and Fleur Delacour — girls who acknowledge they’re pretty, who like fashion, and care for their looks — getting bashed and hated on left and right. Simply for the reasons stated above.
Meanwhile, girls like Hermione Granger and Ginny Weasley are celebrated for not being like that. Hermione has her intelligence and her cleverness. Ginny has her athletic build and tomboy-ish tastes (which comes from being the only girl in the family). I love them both, but they’re usually the ones doing the bashing in the books. I’m over it.
—Girls With Feelings = Bad—
This one I believe to be worse than the first point. Here you’ve got Cho Chang — who’s being mocked because she’s conflicted about her feelings for Harry, she feels as though she’s betraying her dead boyfriend who died the year before by the hands of Voldemort. Why do people pressure her so much? Can’t she take her time? It’s not like they don’t have more important things to worry about than having a girlfriend.
I’m also sick of the Lavender Brown bashing. She’s a nice girl who was desperately in love with Ron, she wanted so badly to have a magical love story that she was blind to how Ron didn’t like her as much. I love Ron, but come on.
This, as always, is what comes to mind at the moment. I might add some more later.
Rowling’s internalized misogyny aside from her books:
—Transphobia—
In case I haven’t made it clear with my previous posts (if you’ve seen them), I am an ally of the Transgender community. Trans men are men. Trans women are women. For me, it doesn’t matter what you identify as or what pronouns you use — you let me know, and I’ll adjust my vocabulary to fit your preference. Whatever’s is or isn’t in your pants is none of my business and should not be used as an excuse to disrespect you. Simple as that.
Unfortunately, not everyone thinks like I do. One of the people who have been actively harming the trans community because they can’t mind their own business is none other than JK Rowling.
I just think the idea of being a radfem or TERF is bullshit. I understand the point a lot of them make about how cis women’s struggles are different, and you’re right about that much. But you guys have to also realize that each woman’s experience with oppression is different anyway.
Take for example Black women and white women. It’s well known that Black women face more oppression compared to white women. Do you see them forming a feminist group that excludes white women? No, at least, not to my knowledge. So why exclude trans women when they, too, go through oppression?
Think about it: trans women also go through sexual harassment, rapes, murders, and daily disrespect just for being trans. Not to mention that the process of changing your sex is mentally, emotionally, and physically exhausting. No one would go through all of that if they weren’t 100% sure that they were born in the wrong body.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: sex ≠ gender.
—Marilyn Mason—
I know this is from last year, but I just found out about it and I’m so mad.
For those who don’t know who Marilyn Mason is . . .
. . . it’s this creep. He legitimately scares me. He does horrible things just because he likes watching his victims squirm.
Here’s a list of things he’s done:
1. He has a cramped vocal booth with nothing but some soundproofing foams that his victims — mostly ex girlfriends and former female employees of his — describe it as a solitary-confinement cell used to psychologically torture women. This monster would lock his victims in there for hours, he got off on watching them struggle and slowly become more and more desperate to get out. He boasted about it, and called it the “Bad Girls’ Room”.
2. He’s being sued for sexual assault by a former assistant (it is unknown to me whether more victims have come forth or not).
3. His apartment was decorated with blood, swastikas, and clipped photos from porno magazines. There’s also a spray-painted message above his bed that reads “AIDS”.
4. Most of the mental, physical, and emotional abuse was done at this apartment — which some describe to be a black refrigerator or a meat locker. Most, if not all, of his victims now suffer from bouts of anxiety, depression, panic attacks, and PTSD.
5. Specified forms of abuse: Game of Thrones actress Esmé Bianco alleges that Mason frequently abused her verbally; deprived her of sleep and food; bit, cut, electrocuted, and whipped her without her consent; and raped her during their two years together. Bianco alleges that, in one horrifying episode, Mason wielded an ax and chased her around the apartment smashing holes in the walls after saying she was “crowding him.”
Rolling Stone Article on Marilyn Mason.
Now you may be wondering, what does Marilyn Mason have to do with JK Rowling?
Ah, thank you for asking. Look at this:
Marilyn Mason thanked JK Rowling on Twitter and Instagram for roses. Why would she — self-proclaimed feminist — be sending this man monster flowers? Why would she even want to be associated with him?
How can she call herself a feminist and be friendly with this beast in the same breath? Mason has been known for being like this for literal years, so it can’t be that she didn’t know about it.
JK Rowling is so concerned with trans women, saying that they’re not real women because they were born a male. She says she loves and admires trans people only to go ahead and demean them, ignore their criticisms, and overall send them hate for who they are. And yet.
I’ve had plenty of Anons telling me that I’m the hateful one because I can’t tolerate the fact that her opinion on trans people differs from mine. You can think whatever you like about trans people, really, I usually just cut TERFs out of my life as soon as I find out. Snip snip. So my issue isn’t Rowling having a different opinion, even if I think it’s wrong. My issue is with how uses her money, platform, and fame to hurt trans people. My issue is with how when trans people and their allies try to tell her that she’s hurting them and us, she scoffs at us and digs the knife deeper. All of this in the name of feminism. She’s not even a real feminist, anyway.
Remember: an opinion is whether you think the milk goes before the cereal or not, it’s NOT whether someone’s gender identity and the oppression that comes with it are valid or not.
with the tags and search officially being completely broken on all platforms (no new posts are showing up in them anymore), now feels like a good time to remind everyone that the only way to help creators is to reblog their stuff. even before the tags were busted most people found new creators through their content being rebloged onto their dash, and now, at least for the time being, that will be the Only way to find and spread things.
Fast reblog is a thing, you dont have to leave comments, you dont have to leave tags, just reblog stuff if you want to keep seeing new content being posted to this site.
and as a final note, with this change likes are officially completely pointless for content creators. up till now they served to boost a posts placement in the tag searches (a post tagged #girl with 40 likes would show up higher in the search than a post tagged #girl with only 10 likes,)
[outdated. the glitch was fixed a few hours after this post was made ^^ still reblog stuff tho]
This could have been so perfect🥲 Does anyone know what happened to the OP or if they have another account where I can find them?
So I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan. However whilst reading the series, one thing struck me above everything else - the way Hogwarts and the greater Wizarding World is seemingly set up just doesn’t make logical sense! Only one teacher per subject? With JKR telling us that there are approximately 1000 students at Hogwarts at any given time? 493 knuts per galleon? No Wizarding primary schools or higher education? So, me being the autistic Ravenclaw that I am, this took away from my enjoyment of the series. I needed it to make mathematical sense!
So I fixed it.
I have spend two years on and off coming up with a detailed overview of the school, from the number of total students and the male/female ratio, the number of students in every house, in every year, and how many could reasonably fit in one class at a time. Then I started on my class timetables. I had to appropriately plan every student’s schedule to make sure that no one had any overlapping classes, this ended up meaning manually writing down which subjects every student took and then sorting them alphabetically into classes based on the fact that I didn’t want more than 30 kids per class.
That still wasn’t enough though. I then had to figure out how we would get 1000 kids to school safely and efficiently, how we would sort them without making the entire school sit there for 3+ hours, how many professors would have to live at the school in order to provide adequate supervision for 1000 kids, a comprehensive list of school rules, an actual system of how many house points one would gain/lose…… I really dug myself into a hole and I couldn’t stop. In fact I’m still not done and I still can’t stop. There are SO many holes in this world.
Beyond this I have a whole alternate timeline that this whole thing is based on. Long story short, in my headcanon, the war ‘officially’ began with The Battle of the Department of Mysteries (which I have modernised to take place in June 2018) and ended in January 2020 with The Battle of Hogwarts, and then all students were required to repeat whatever year they were in during the war, because holy shit, the fact that they didn’t make any of them repeat a year after that mess is ridiculous. I’m surprised any of them even passed DADA with Umbridge!! Or that anyone accomplished anything the year Voldemort was literally in control of the school. Now I realise that modernising this story is probably an unpopular take - however I must stress how much I’m mainly doing this for myself so I can live out my Harry Potter fantasies in a relatable way lol. Feel free to ignore the modern times and just take my numbers to the original 90’s timeline if you’d rather do that than put yourself into the story like I do.
Also let it be known that I am in my 20’s and a mother of two… but my therapist knows about this and says it’s a HEALTY COPING MECHANISM…. soooooooo, guess I’m gonna just keep writing out this timeline and imaging what life would be like if I was 16 again woo! Anyway… Harry’s year would have to repeat Sixth Year. And believe me when I say the level of intricate detail in my alternate timeline is just wild. If you think I’m crazy for doing just this ‘Logical Hogwarts’ thing….. you don’t even want to see my alternate timeline. It’s wild. I’m way too invested in this. I’ve written over 30k words so far and I’m not stopping.
Also in my headcanon Hogwarts, everyone I like just lives because I’m doing this to escape my depression not to become even more depressed thank you very much! Snape, Lupin and Sirius Black all live and are put in a position where they have to run the DADA department together because, um, IMAGINE THE HILARITY!? Them hating each other, then eventually having to figure out how to work together? Reluctant forgiveness turned sincere apologies turned genuine friendship?? Also Remus and Sirius are so gay and Harry lives with them. Tonks has a different husband, they still both die and Teddy still exists. Harry is still Teddy’s godfather because of the genuine friendship he formed with Tonks. Dumbledore still dies. Originally he wasn’t going to but he just has to, I realised the story doesn’t work if he lives.
So, here we are. The second wave of Logical Hogwarts, re-vamped, rewritten in some parts, lots more added on! Two years and one more kid later! Feel free to take this for personal use or fanfiction or whatever, tag me or message me if you do I want to see your class timetable! Or if you want me to make you a class timetable I’ll do it!
(Disclaimer; I still look after my kids I promise. I just don’t sleep which is how I have time for this ;))
I’ve tried to make this as easy to read and navigate as I possibly can, so I’ve created a seperate page for every different aspect of this world. I didn’t like the look of the master post and scrolling for so long was overwhelming. So, here it goes…
Hogwarts student body (the numbers)
Hogwarts student body (the names) Hogwarts dormitories
Hogwarts prefects and head boy & girl Hogwarts staff & faculty Hogwarts School Rules (this was THE MOST fun to write) The Hogwarts Express (but it makes sense now)
The Sorting Ceremony (but it doesn’t suck now)
Why I especially hate Snape.
When I was in school, I got bullied horribly over something I had no control over (my deafness).
It got so bad, I had a full breakdown when, on my second day of 9th grade, one of my bullies arrived. I had to leave the school and could not leave the house for two months because I got physically ill at the mere thought of putting myself out there again.
The school was crap, too, they never listened whenever I asked for help and they always placed the blame of my bullying on me.
There was also the fact that they’re the reason I had so much internalized homophobia, I just loathed the fact that I liked girls.
On top of that, I had (still do) a lot of issues at home.
But I grew up. I held my head high and moved on because I just couldn’t waste my life away dwelling on the past.
Snape lived through somewhat similar situations and he came out to be such an asshole. He’s exactly who I feared I’d be if I didn’t get help.
And then there’s people who excuse his behavior, and they victimize him and all of that shit, as if it’s not meant to make you stronger.
I hate Snape because I see so much of myself in him, I hate him because I see so much of my bullies in him, I hate him because he reminds me of all the miserable adults I knew for a fact could’ve identified with me and still failed me.
I just hate him.
Harry Potter Rewrite: Disabilities.
I’ve already got a lot of disabled characters, but I feel that I still need more. I don’t pretend to be an expert in this, my only physical disability is my deafness. I will, however, promise to do all the research I can and listen to whatever criticism you give me (keep it respectful, though).
Disabilities I’ve already included:
Deafness — One of them is fully deaf and communicates through sign language, they’re all about Deaf Power and such. I have another character that is deaf in one ear and learns about the Deaf community later on. Total: 2 people
Hemophilia — This condition will come as a result of inbreeding. For those who don’t know what it is, it is a blood clot disorder that causes spontaneous bleeding and also excessive bleeding when injured - a lot of European royals have historically had this as a result of inbreeding. Total: 1 person (so far)
Paraplegia — Obviously, this person is going to be a wheelchair user. If you don’t know what it is, it’s when a person is paralyzed from the chest down. One of my main characters will have this disability due to be dropped out of the window as a child — yes, this is a hint. Total: 2 people
Epilepsy — The person to have this will be an OC of mine. Total: 1 person
Schizophrenia — Won’t be mentioned quite as often as it probably should, but it’s somebody’s parent. Total: 1 person
Autism — I want to have several people on different sides of the spectrum, so far, I only have two autistic people, but I’m working on more. Total: 2 people (so far)
Blindness — This one you’ll be seeing most often. We have different people who are all legally blind, though they’ve got different types of blindness. Total: 3 people
Chronic Pain — The people with this will all have different ways to alleviate the pain. One will use a cane during their youth and later on use a wheelchair on particular bad days. Another will use a cane only when the pain is too much to move much. The last one won’t suffer it too bad. Total: 3 people
Dyslexia — I’m sure everyone knows what this is. This person is a pureblood so they wouldn’t know that they had a disability and genuinely thought they just weren’t smart. Later on, they’ll find out what was happening and they’ll have friends to help them find spells to read easily. Total: 1 person
Limb loss — My character was born without one of their legs, but they don’t let it stop them from doing what they truly love — dancing. They have a prosthetic leg they tried using magic on but didn’t work because it became sentient. Total: 1 person
PTSD — This one is going to be seen a lot, there are going to be muggle war veterans as well as magical war survivors. This is going to be a major theme once we dive into the actual war. Total: A shit-ton of people
Migraines — These can be debilitating, it’s horrible, and I thought I should include it. So far, only one person has it. Total: 1 person (so far)
Disabilities I know about, but haven’t researched:
Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) — a condition that affects blood flow. POTS causes the development of symptoms — usually lightheadedness, fainting and an uncomfortable, rapid increase in heartbeat — that come on when standing up from a reclining position and relieved by sitting or lying back down. Which character do you see having this?
Are there any more disabilities missing? Let me know! The whole point of this rewrite is to be able to see ourselves better within these beloved characters.
the anon that was going on about estrogen was so close to the point but just veered off to the left 💀
yes the human's (and other animals') sex is determined by a lot of factors, it's like a big and complex assembly line, you know what else that means? there can be "mistakes" (for the record trans people are not mistakes, i love yall, im just using the word to work with the analogy) from many different factors, a message with a typo that changes the instructions, a misreading of the instructions, hell even enviromental factors can upset the process
also "trans women dont naturally produce estrogen" honey, UH-HONEY! men and women both have testosterone and estrogen because they're more than "sex hormones", these hormones have other purposes too. in amab men for example, insufficient estrogen levels can cause erectile dysfunction, lower libido, excess fat (nothing wrong with that imo, just listing all effects to show that the hormones have influence on the body regardless of sex) and most importantly loss of bone matter and osteoporosis.
its true that on the average, afab women produce more estrogen and amab men produce more testosterone, but that's just it, AVERAGES.
it's not too uncommon for cis men to have naturally high estrogen levels and for cis women to have naturally high testosterone levels (*cough cough* Christine Mboma and Beatrice Masilingi in the last olympics *cough cough*)
terfs really are the karens of biology, talking on stuff they don't understand.
me: I love this character so much, they're adorable and I would die for them
random person: aw so you would date them and sleep with them?
me: *spits out my drink* ew no wtf
I’m coming back very briefly after being gone for a while to say that the marauders would’ve absolutely loved the Twilight series. It would be a whole thing.
Remus would try to focus on how toxic the whole thing is, but no one’s gonna listen to him because they’ll be busy fighting anyone who says they’re team Edward because “werewolves are clearly superior and if you don’t think so, you’re stupid and tasteless”.
Like nobody really cares about the series itself, but they’ll be damned if they let a person be a team Edward in peace.
I am really tempted to come up with my own fantasy religion and chuck it into the Harry Potter rewrite but at the same time, I know it’s going to create a lot of plot holes and/or complications that can be avoided if I just follow the Pagan traditions and beliefs. Ugh.
Me, writing a Genderfluid Sirius Black, and a trans woman Marlene:
i don’t get people in this fandom that get mad or frustrated by other fans who for example think that sirius dressed both feminine and masculine because “it’s not realistic he lived in the 70s” BRUH he’s literally a fictional wizard and basically everything about him is fan made and you want to talk about what’s “realistic” ????
