Concept: Hera doesn’t show up for the Battle of Manhattan but Juno shows up for the Battle of Mount Othrys.

Jason in the midst of battle about to face Krios and praying not to his father.

But to his patron.

In seconds Juno appearing before her champion. And despite despite the dire circumstances, she smiles at him.

To see Jason on the battle field looking every bit the hero she knew he was destined to become.

It fills her with pride.

“You came? I mean of course you’d come.” Says Jason, trying and failing to hide his shock. “Of course, where else would I be when my champion needs me.”

Jason smiles “of course, thank you Lady Juno” he says bowing his head in gratitude. Juno shook her head in amusement “honestly Jason how many times have I told you to forgo these formalities?”

Her champion grinned “oh somewhere between 2 and 200 times.” Cheeky boy, she adored him so. It had been far too long since they’d spoken, a fault on her part of course.

Alas it was then their lovely conversation was interrupted by Krios, the titan staring at them in shock.

“You..but how? How are you so far from your husband?”

Jason glared “how dare you speak to my champion in such a way?!” He rose his sword to defend himself and her honour. Juno softened at the sight before preparing herself for the fight.

“I trust you have a plan.”

“Sure do, but you’re gonna have to follow my lead.”

“Lead the way my boy.”

please say your thoughts about camp jupiter and specifically any like any headcanons or ideas you have about nr, the characters, their relationships and backgrounds, literally anything!!! i am a fellow cj enthusiast and would absolutely LOVE to hear your thoughts on it <3

-@brooklyn-house

okay okay I didn't answer this for WEEKS I'm super sorry my head was so empty and I got hyper fixated in another fandom, so I didn't want to deliver half assed answers, but I'm back!! recharged lol

• new rome/camp jupiter probably has a million secret entrances to different places, that probably only reyna knows of.

• octavian was actually friends with jason and Reyna when they were little kids but he grew to be evil and they became frenemies.

• jason and reyna spent basically all their time tgt going to different historical locations, if jason was assigned a quest he'd be like ‘can reyna go with me please?’ because they'd use it as an excuse to tour places and talk about history.

• jason definitely had other best or atleast close friends in cj or nr in general, apart from reyna. and I feel like that person knows him too well (maybe even more than reyna does) and after his death they cried their heart out, and nobody knows that they were close friends. this friend/friends have so many letters and things jason wrote to them.

• baby jason and reyna would love to try on the armours that were put on the statues in cj and would run around with it. they were definitely rebel kids.

I’m never going to write this but I am so very intrigued by the concept of platonic!Jeyna in Tartarus and thought you guys might appreciate so:

-No idea what exactly the context here is but Reyna ends up following the Seven across the ocean a bit sooner than she does in canon and helps out during the end of MoA and she’s the one who ends up dangling over Tartarus

-And yes it absolutely has to be Jason coming to Reyna’s aid for the fall. Because it’s already established she’d do anything for him. She crossed an ocean for him in canon. But Jason’s whole thing since this all started has been that he chose Leo and Piper over Reyna/CHB over Camp Jupiter (or at least it felt that way to her). Their shared home isn’t his priority anymore. She isn’t his priority. She hasn’t been since he disappeared. She’s not expecting him to come to her aid.

-When she orders him to drop her, she expects him to listen like the proper Roman soldier that he should be. And then he doesn’t.

-There’s something very intriguing to me about the concept of “your only way to survive this situation is to trust a person with your life who you’re aware you’ve loved forever but who you don’t really know anymore”

-All his trust in her is muscle memory and all her trust in him is linked to a version of him that no longer exists. Least convenient place to get to know each other again!

Not super many thoughts on scenes but I do have two in mind:

1) at one point Reyna moves during a fight to cover Jason in a way that would have worked with CJ Jason but doesn’t with this one because his fighting style is more a mix of Greek and Roman now and one of them ends up hurt because of it

2) Jason is the one dealing with Akhlys and it startles Reyna really badly because she knows Jason goes off when necessary but seeing him so fiercely protective of her specifically in a way where he’s lost control entirely is both terrifying and pulling her right back to the moment when she killed her dad to protect Hylla. Potentially the thing that stops him is Reyna also losing control of her powers and having her terror bleed over into him.

Concept: Jasico with Praetor Jason Grace and his mysterious advisor Nico Di Angelo who you’re never sure what his motives are.

But he’s always at Jason’s side.

No one would ever guess that it was Jason who cornered Nico, sword at his throat as he calmly questioned what a spy was doing at his camp.

He was no diplomat of Pluto for the gods didn’t care for us when war broke out. They would not care to send you now, so I ask you again who are you?

They don’t know that Nico revealed his true nature and while he didn’t reveal all his cards he showed his hand more than he ever has.

That there is another battle on the horizon, and I’m here to make sure it doesn’t tear you all apart.

“And why would a son of Pluto, no a child of Hades care for the plight of Rome?”

“I don’t. But I have a sister living here and I want her to be safe. If this threat comes our way then nowhere will be safe.”

“Very well but you will answer to me, to Reyna and us alone. You will be my shadow, my eyes and ears as my advisor. It’ll grant you immunity and all the things you require.”

“Not that I’m complaining but…that’s it? You’d accept me like that?”

“I had a sister once…I would do anything to see her again. And Hazel is a dear friend. That’s all I need to know to trust you.”

“You shouldn’t trust me.”

“I could say the same.”

Concept:

Honestly if they were gonna de-power Jason they should’ve just given him the Frank treatment.

Have it so that the Olympians saw a demigod defeat a titan by himself and deem him too powerful to be kept alive. Especially in the wake of the last great prophecy.

And have him de-powered because of that.

I mean when you think about every Roman demigod is cursed in some way so I think they should’ve just carried that on.

Hazels powers are cursed. Franks life force is tied to a stick. Reyna was told love could never heal her.

Octavian had Gaia messing with his head. And Dakota has to drink kool-aid to curb the alcoholism he inherited from Bacchus.

…which could honestly be its own post but anyway.

So carrying on with that have Jason keep his life but losing his memories and no matter how much he tries he can never recover his sense of self.

Because Jason’s at his most powerful when he has all his memories of training and knowing who he is.

Or you go the other way and instead of Jason being nerfed like Frank, just have it be that the usage of his powers has consequences.

Jason just gets the Beast Atsushi treatment where using his powers gives him intense pain. A physical barrier to stop him from ever being able to go all out.

So that he could never use his powers against them. Because if this boy by himself was able to defeat a titan. Who’s to say he wouldn’t ever turn on them?

Just like Zeus did his own father, and his father before him.

Man imagine that reveal to everyone else, not from Jason himself obviously because it’s Jason he’d carry all that in silence.

He’s arguing with his father and he’s that mad that electricity is crackling around him. It unconsciously flares near Zeus and Jason suddenly drops to his knees like he’s been struck.

And screams.

His friends rushing over while Zeus is just like I’m sorry what was that? I’m afraid you’ll have to speak up.

Hera hating every second of it and gently but firmly telling Jason to let go of his anger and ask for forgiveness.

Jason biting his lip so hard it bleeds as he knees before his father’s Greek equivalent and apologises.

Zeus purposefully waiting a little longer till Percy’s yelling at him, barely being held back by Annabeth.

And then the pain stops and Jason falls limp in their arms.

Horrifying.

Even more so that everyone else is suddenly aware that very much could’ve been any of them. It’s just that Jason was the one they picked.

Everyone suddenly stops joking about Jason passing out during fights.

Like you could’ve made it part of the story and used to add to Jason’s character but instead it’s just lazy and shows Rick really didn’t know what to do with him.

Jason Grace Had Done What? Zeus Had Many Children, Which Meant I Had Many Half Brothers And Half Sisters.

Jason Grace had done what? Zeus had many children, which meant I had many half brothers and half sisters. Except for my twin, Artemis, I’d never felt close to any of them. Certainly, I’d never had a brother defend me in front of Father. My Olympian brethren were more likely to deflect Zeus’s fury by yelling Apollo did it! This young demigod had stood up for me. He’d had no reason to do so. He barely knew me. Yet he’d risked his own life and faced the wrath of Zeus. My first thought was to scream ARE YOU INSANE? Then more appropriate words came to me. “Thank you.”

-The Burning Maze, page 216.

Apollo and Jason guys ... just .... Apollo and Jason.

This is a redraw of this comic! Because I have always been obsessed with this scene.

I love to headcanon that compared to people like his sister or Percy that Jason’s anger is very calm.

Very controlled.

That Jason rarely ever raises his voice nor does he really yell. But even without that you can feel how pissed off he is.

And that terrifies people because for one Jason is a pretty chill guy all things considered. It takes a lot to get him angry.

So if you’re already there you’ve majorly fucked up and there’s no helping you.

And two, when the Big 3 get mad they resemble their parents. Thalia is her father’s storm. Percy is his father’s raging sea.

And Jason’s no different for while he looks like his mother. It’s when he’s angry that he resembles his father.

And I like to think Jupiter’s rage is distinctive from Zeus’s.

That Jupiters rage is that of a king standing over his court. Looking at the peasant before him and calmly asking them for a reason to not execute them.

Jason’s rage is the clouds covering the sun. It’s the wind picking up and the crackle of electricity across the sky. It’s all the signs of a brewing storm that grant a sense of unease.

It’s a warning that you’ve gone too far.

Because even when he’s angry there’s a level of restraint to Jason’s temperament. A sense of decorum, because even now he holds himself to his principles and rules.

And for Jason who’s outwardly so bright that he could resemble sunshine. Jason who seemingly lacks the jagged edges of Percy’s smirk and Thalia’s glare.

When Jason gets angry you notice the way it shifts his entire demeanour. The moment he goes from Jason to Praetor Grace.

No one’s ever seen the brunt of Jason’s rage and frankly no one ever wants too.

Jason who is super empathic to his friends and not ever to himself.

Leo could have a cut and he'd be like oh no! I need to get you help! And is super anxious about it.

Meanwhile, Jason is actively bleeding out in every direction and doesn't feel any of it. Leo is a person who deserves good things, and Jason is a soldier who has to endure pain to help people.

On the characterisation of Fiyero

Fiyero’s characterisation relies a lot on the actors that portray him, particularly in Act I. Bearing in mind the limited stage time, the emphasis on lines such as ‘life’s more painless for the brainless’ and ‘those who don’t try never look foolish’ in Dancing Through Life is, at least to me, crucial in conveying the fact that despite his seemingly perfect life, he is honestly unhappy. I think the same goes for 'well, I’ll say this, she doesn’t give a twig what anyone else thinks’ - he says it jokingly, a throwaway comment on the school outcast, but he admires her for being strong enough to stand on her own two feet without using a facade as a crutch, for fashioning her own weapons out of insults and determination and aloof sarcasm to fight back against the endless harassment, and is a little jealous, too. He’s not brave enough to weather the storm on his own; he cares too much what people think of him, even though it’s damaging.

And he kind of has to. He’s a Prince, after all, and the level of scrutiny paid to royals is ridiculous, especially here in Britain. For example, Kate was recently in the news for - shock horror - getting stuck in a traffic jam, on her way to picking George up from school. Also hitting major newspapers were Charles and Camilla’s bedrooms, William’s new haircut, and the royal mince pie recipe. Truly brilliant journalism, right?

Fiyero was raised a royal, which in my mind is part of the reason why he acted out. Being born into such a huge responsibility would never be easy, especially if he didn’t want to rule in the first place, and this was part of his life over which he had some control. He didn’t ask to be in this position, and he probably would’ve been expected to act as an adult at a young age. The responsibilities would have smothered him, leaving him to search for an escape.

(This happens with celebrities in real life, even teenagers, and more so with the rise of callout culture.)

Being royalty would’ve distanced him from most people his age, and there would’ve been the inevitable gold-diggers and sellouts, whether they were friends or lovers. He grew up ironically lonely. As well as royalty, he was also raised as a politician, well-versed in the arts of negotiation, lying, and masking true emotions. He was never able to truly be himself, to let go of formalities or expectations. His 'scandalacious reputation’ preceded him like a red carpet, and with money, alcohol, parties, and the plethora of women at his beck and call, a great deal of people would’ve expected him to love the attention it gave him - and wouldn’t have understood in the slightest if he said it was incredibly stifling, that he hasn’t eaten a vegetable in a year, that he’d really like to sit down and read a book or finish that sketch he started a long while ago. It was a vicious cycle, one he would break if only he knew how.

It’s also likely that as the reigning monarchs - that aren’t the figureheads the British Royal Family have become through the years - his parents would have had a staggering amount of duties and engagements, which could’ve distanced them from their son whether they meant it to or not. In times of tragedy, of insecurity, of dramatic upheaval, where would Fiyero turn?

As I said, he’s not as strong as Elphaba in that he can’t just not care what people think of him, and after flunking out of numerous schools, his parents would’ve been disappointed in him, to say the least. They would have doubted his ability to rule, and after a while, so would he. He would look at the complete mess he’d made of his life, and wonder how the fuck he could get it together enough to lead an entire country. He believed he was too far gone to be saved, to break the endless chain. He’s adored by the public, and it’s a victory, even if the victory is hollow.

Royal status doesn’t mean he had the best life. Money doesn’t mean he had all he could ever want. Power doesn’t mean he had a voice that can be heard. After all, a comfortable life doesn’t provide immunity from tragedy, from strife, from the trials and tribulations that others face. A comfortable life can still be empty.

These little glimpses into his true feelings and personality don’t have to be glaringly obvious - to be honest, they’re better when partially concealed, as if the facade slipped for a mere few seconds before settling back into place. Over the course of the musical, they grow more and more obvious, until everything is on the line and the facade finally falls to the floor.

I think part of the reason that he falls for Elphaba is that she can see through this facade like it’s made of glass - and what’s more, she accepts who he is underneath. She knows he isn’t happy with his life, she knows he’s more than what he pretends to be, and isn’t afraid to tell him so. Besides that, she knows what it’s like to be lonely, to have to pretend like you don’t care. To have to protect yourself from falling apart, if not for yourself then for the sake of others. Over the years, she hardened herself to the tirades of harassment, of bullying, of abuse, but her heart isn’t made of stone. She has green skin; the remarks and actions from others about that wouldn’t have slid like water from a duck’s back.

There was a reason why Elphaba’s famous line of ‘no, you’re not, or you wouldn’t be so unhappy’ was emphasised. That exchange in the Lion cub scene is basically Fiyero trying to prove to both Elphaba and himself that he is nothing more than what meets the eye, that life is truly nothing more than parties and sex and drinking. His 'genuinely self-absorbed and deeply shallow’ line is a very obvious lie, and Elphaba doesn’t hesitate to call him out on it. Underneath the light, funny words, he’s clearly tired of keeping up the pretense, but somehow Elphaba is the only one to have seen through it, and he’s taken off guard. She’s the only one that cares enough to do so.

Even later, in Act II, he couldn’t let down the facade. He was trapped in a gilded cage, bound by the expectations of the intolerant, cruel, and manipulative society in which he lived, used as a pawn by Morrible, and made the leader of an organisation whose primary aim was to capture the woman he was in love with and kill her - or worse. Definitely a lot worse. What’s more, he had to do it with a smile on his face. He wasn’t happy - not when he was painting a picture of himself as the perfect prince, and not when he was on the balcony in Thank Goodness - but he had to solidify his old facade, the very one that Elphaba saw though without even trying, and make it a reality. If anyone noticed the cracks in the foundation, then there would be serious consequences.

It’s not until the pivotal Throne Room scene that Fiyero is at long last able to stop pretending. Though perhaps able is the wrong word; it’s not like he’s left with an easy option to take. He’s presented with an inevitably disastrous situation - and he follows his heart, does what he knows is right, even against the imminent backlash. He could’ve pretended that he didn’t remember Elphaba, that he never had feelings for her, that he believed that she was wicked - even if he broke both of their hearts in the process. Not to mention that if he did, it’s unlikely Elphaba would’ve lived.

But he didn’t, and breaking years of metaphorical shackles can’t have been easy, especially with so much at stake. He found the strength to not care what the public thinks, to find this strength and solace in the woman he loves. In As Long As You’re Mine he looks so much more comfortable than he ever did before, thrown under the spotlight with every move scrutinised. The difference from Thank Goodness, where he was obviously uncomfortable and unhappy, is massive. The line 'you’ve got me seeing through different eyes’ is more than loving her past her non-conventional beauty, but that she’s opened his eyes to a new way of living. He doesn’t have to put his happiness last, he doesn’t have to pretend, he doesn’t have to live for everyone except himself. For the first time, he’s allowed to be Fiyero, rather than His Royal Highness Prince Fiyero Tigelaar, or the arm candy of Glinda the Good.

It hurts him to see Elphaba in pain, and hurts him to have to let her go again. So he doesn’t. He doesn’t, and ends up saving her life. Somehow, I think he’s happier with his sacrifice in the cornfield scene than he ever was in the Emerald Palace. He did what he knew was right, even while knowing that he gave his life to do so. Arguably, this is Fiyero’s moment of glory; the point where he shines brighter than the moonlight from the previous scene. Had Elphaba been caught, it would’ve been game over - for everyone. It would’ve dealt a massive blow to the Animals and the Revolution as a whole, it would’ve ensured Morrible remained the puppet-master of Oz, and it would’ve had a disastrous effect on both Glinda and Fiyero. In sacrificing himself, he saved Elphaba, and as a result, saved the Revolution and the hope it inspired.

He was no longer afraid to stand against the dissent of those he used to bend over backwards to keep happy, and the old facade, having been dropped in the Throne Room, was never replaced.

The mirroring of the 'it’s not lying, it’s looking at things another way’ exchange in the Finale is very important to me (as is the first appearance of said exchange, in all honesty), and marks a new era in their lives, one where they can learn to be themselves, to not put on a show for the sake of someone else.

At last, they were unlimited.

eventually elphaba will die. glinda will die. everybody that fiyero and boq ever cared about or loved will die. but they won’t. they’re straw and metal. they will eventually be the only ones still standing. but at least they’ll always be able to return to each other. at least two of them are cursed with immortality, and they don’t have to brave it alone.

double agent fiyero headcanons bc i need it

(pre captain) feldspar is his informant — fiyero constructs an elaborate story about how riding him will “teach him his place” and make him forget how to speak. feldspar is “imprisoned” in a stable that only fiyero has the key to — when he goes on these rides, he tells feldspar all the information he’s gathered about where Animal raids are going to take place. geldspar then takes the info to another informant, who notifies the Animal community

the wizard’s personal guard, which fiyero leads, is a personal protection service, almost like an elite emerald city police force. the wizard uses men in lower positions to do the grunt work of actually removing Animal settlements

* fiyero distributes these orders, but always slowly enough that the settlement is able to escape

he is the one that is in charge of imprisonment — whenever an Animal is arrested, he makes sure that he intercepts them before they’re taken to the wizard himself. when he “interrogates” them, he reveals that he’s an inside agent. before the engagement ball, which he knew would draw the majority of the skilled guards away, he unlocked all the cells so the animals could escape. this was blamed on elphaba when she arrived, but was actually orchestrated by feldspar

he refuses to be told elphaba’s location — if he’s discovered and tortured (lmao ironic) he cant put her in danger

he does however smuggle supplies out of the palace for her, and has definitely given feldspar a bunch of poppies to deliver on several occasions

the flying monkeys are his biggest regret — he cannot free them because it would immediately reveal him and the guilt absolutely eats him up

he has successfully redirected the Gale Force to be primarily concerned with finding elphaba, keeping them away from Animals

if a particularly sociopathic guard joins the Force, he ensures that they are assigned to the wizard’s personal guard instead of being on the field

Okay, so:

I’ve seen a few posts that are pitching, like, Fiyerboq equivalents of Gelphie moments (What Is This Feeling, the Popular makeover scene, etc) and it made me realize something:

In this hypothetical Fiyerboq-centric AU, Fiyero and Boq would have the Glinda and Elphaba dynamic up until Defying Gravity, at which point, they would switch roles.

If Fiyero and Boq were the ones to discover the truth about the Wizard, Boq would absolutely not be willing to give up the popularity and acceptance that he’d yearned for his whole life like Elphaba did.

In contrast, Fiyero would have learned to do the right thing, no matter the personal cost. He would make the same decision as Elphaba, leaving Boq behind.

i can imagine that when they first meet on the yellow brick road and dont know each other, Boq wouldn't be concerned about "the Scarecrow" losing straw. just assumes its normal for living scarecrows and figures the guy doesn't seem bothered. but after the two of them figure out who each other are (no matter how poorly that conversation goes) Boq would see Scarecrow loose a bit of straw and immediately goes "FIYERO. FIYERO ARE YOU OKAY." totally forgetting how easily he's walked it off the past days of traveling. Fiyero has to go into damage control mode and assure Boq He's Fine because he does NOT want to deal with Boq rusting himself again.

Just want to say that love your designs for Dorothy and friends. Love the book-insprired Dorothy, haven't seen much of those around (usually they're based of the 1939 movie), the shapes of on the Lion's fur, the Tin Man having Movie!Boq curls, they are all great, lovely and detailed designs.

But I love your Scarecrow (Fiyercrow), he just looks so whimsy, I don't why, but he is my favorite out of designs of og Oz party, I guess he just seems so silly, and love the little details that you included.

Indeed, it's a thank you, Jonathan Bailey.

Just Want To Say That Love Your Designs For Dorothy And Friends. Love The Book-insprired Dorothy, Haven't

They're just happy to be here!

On a serious note: thank you so, so much for your kind words. I have always struggled with character design, so learning that people in fact enjoy seeing my creations and I'm not 'that one annoying user'? Huzzah! I'm really happy!

Also I appreciate that you read ALL that in the character line up post <3
