Can we talk about how Cass refers to herself as "manipulative" in Batgirl #5? Like, it struck me as so weird for a second because in my mind it didn't fit how David had trained her. She was a weapon, not an infiltrator... until I remembered how she killed Faizul.
It wasn't just with her superior skills, David dressed her up as a cute and harmless little girl to get close to her target and Cass is putting that act of manipulation on herself.
Cass, coming back from her fight to the “death” with Shiva: “I lived bitch, and so did Shiva”
Babs: “I’m so happy you’re alive! but we really gotta unpack that later…”
So we've had "skill issue," we've had "lock in," we've had "where we droppin' boys" but I put forward that if there's any one piece of borrowed internet slang Cass would get constant use out of in her day to day crimefighting career it would be "I lived bitch."
One day a man goes missing in Gotham. Nobody special, just another unlucky lowlife schmuck who owed money to the wrong people. The kind of guy with nobody in the world to miss him. Bruce and Babs are sharing notes when Cassandra wanders in. When she notices a picture of the guy's face her eyes harden in a way they're very unused to and she insists they put her on the case. She very pointedly asks for his name before pulling down her mask and leaping out the window.
They don't see her again for the next several days. She tears through the city's criminal underbelly with an unmatched ferocity. She's always driven but this concerns even Bruce. If experience has taught them anything though, it's that there's no talking to her when she's like this so they can do nothing but wait and hope.
Eventually she puts enough pressure on that somebody gives her a location. Not an hour later she's untying the man from a chair in a dank cellar in a dive bar on the outskirts of the city. He's not exactly on the right side of law so when he pulls the blindfold from over his eyes and sees a Bat standing right in front of him, especially this bat, he yelps and recoils in fear. Then she hugs him. She hugs him tight and holds on long enough that he forgets his fear and instead starts to feel distinctly awkward. Then just as quickly she vanishes, leaving him alone and too stunned for words.
He doesn't remember, but then, she never expected him to. It was years ago after all. A cold night, even for winter in Gotham when a petty crook decided the girl huddled on a street corner with no home to go back to looked like she needed that hot cup of cocoa more than he did. She remembered though.
VOTE CASS GUYS!
She was completely mute and didn’t understand any type of language (spoken or otherwise) for the first 17 years of her life! She has extreme dyslexia and a whole bunch of mental shit going on as all the Bats do!!!!
She also has autistic traits!!
Nina and Dr. Phosphorus’ stories feel like inverses of each other. The two human-born of the group. The scientist father who had to watch his child die at the hands of criminals because he was trying to do the right thing versus vs the daughter of a scientist who had watch her father die at the hands of police because she was trying to do the same. Then, in their grief, Phosphorus only knew how to continue hurting people while Nina always tried to continue being kind. How Phosphorus’s mutation symbolized the ending of his old life while Nina’s meant the true beginning of hers
The notes are broken. This is what tumblr is all about apparently.
No but I seriously can't even fathom how painful Cassandra's existence has to be.
Like, we explore exactly how horrible witnessing death is for Cassandra, she reads the pain and the understanding and the regret on a dying body, she experiences death along with its victim on real time, she is the one human being who will never get desensitized to seeing a person dying, it is even worse for her than for anyone else, and she is surrounded by death
Her entire dedicated rogue's gallery (David Cain, Shiva, the Mad Dog, the Unburied, etc) makes a point of killing any and all by-standers and she always has to see it
Imagine the most traumatic death you have ever seen or heard about, imagine the grief or the disgust you felt when you first came across it, imagine experiencing that at the same time you experience the pain of the dying person and then imagine reliving that memory two, three, ten, twenty times every night and it's always like the first time and you never get used to it, and you'd be imagining a normal Tuesday for Cassandra as Batgirl
It's agonizing, my legs shake just thinking about it, I can't even picture getting up from my bed every morning with that curse over my head. And you're telling me Cassandra, this normal human without powers and with a support network that is lackluster on a good day, not only gets up every morning but lives with it? That she can manage a semblance of normality? How much willpower does it take? I am truly floored by how amazing Cassandra is.
Sins of the Father
i love when only some of the leaguers know billy's identity. like dude, batman and manhunter know who you are and neither of them give a shit, why are you still hiding from plastic man?
Just learned that there is a Captain Marvel fan club community (I didn’t even know tumblr had something like that) and I’m freaking out
She/HerAutistic, queer, and (according to all the unfinished fics in my docs) an aspiring fanfic author!
