I find I have to mention this to people a lot: the way to check your own fandom racism or anti-blackness isn’t how you react to the flawless POC characters, but how you react when POC characters have flaws. 

Like, I’ve known people who tear down Simone from The Good Place, and when I pointed out that none of her flaws are even close to those of Eleanor, from season one or even currently, and suggested that they should consider whether biases are influencing their hatred for the character, they cited their love for Shuri from Black Panther, and characters like her. Shuri is not a hard character to love; she never challenges the audience to see her in a complex way. She is funny, smart, and never burdensome to anyone.

Myself, I hated Katara from Avatar when I was younger. Now, I am able to identify the internalized misogyny and racism in my dislike for her; I hated her because she was inconvenient at times and wasn’t always nice to the characters I liked. Similar deal with Frank Zhang from Heroes of Olympus. But both of those characters (and all characters) were significant for what they represented.

Fandom racism isn’t just hating POC characters for no reason or ignoring POC ships; it also manifests in the double-standard where we’re willing to forgive white characters for more things than POC characters.

love it when someone in TGCF is like "oh no, that's Crimson Rain Sought Flower! a highly dangerous supreme calamity who's so powerful he obliterated 33 heavenly officials!!" and xie lian immediately rebuffs them by basically saying: "no, this is san lang, and he's so sweet he cuddled me all night when i asked"

meanwhile, with qi rong is the complete opposite, because someone says "oh no, that's Night Touring Green Latern, one of the four great calamities! known for torturing and cannibalizing his victims!!" and xie lian, without hesitation, simply goes: "no, that's just my cousin qi rong. don't even look at him. he's doing it for attention."

the canonical parents in this series are literally the weirdest candidates for the title bc we have:

yaga: notorious hardass principal of a magic school that trains child soldiers and whose kids are all sentient puppets. a pretty decent dad overall tho, 8.5/10.

getou: genocidal cult leader who’s been in a progressively worsening downward spiral since he was 17. a surprisingly decent dad, 6/10 because the bar is so fucking low that encouraging homicide and being practically idolized by your family is nowhere near the sketchiest shit a parent in this series has done and his kids actually like him.

zen’in clan: powerful clan who’s also abusive, misogynistic, and old-fashioned with a side dish of alcoholism and a propensity for trying to kill their kids. 0/10, and the only reason it’s not lower is because the twins’ mom stabbed naoya and secretly liked them i guess.

touji: assassin-for-hire with a gambling habit and very low regard for almost everyone other than himself with, like, one and a half exceptions. 2/10 because he made a bare minimum effort to keep his son alive, but was also neglectful, completely disregarded his daughter’s existence, and almost sold his son to one direction.

kenjaku: ancient body-snatcher who has had multiple infamous incarnations and is implied to have done some incredibly disturbing shit to their partners and kids for the sake of experimentation and their grand plan. -10000/10, i don’t think you can possibly get worse

kamo clan: powerful clan #2 who’s also neglectful, misogynistic, probably abusive, and old-fashioned. hey, by the way, why would you name a kid after one of the worst sorcerers to have ever lived, what’s wrong with you? 0/10 because i don’t think they actively tried to kill their heir.

kamo’s mom: seemed pretty alright and actually cares about her kid. he seems to like her a lot. 8/10.

gojou: world’s most powerful sorcerer and one of Japan’s Top 10 Worst Personalities but actually cares about kids and has a pretty decent track record of keeping them alive, even if most of them don’t like him very much. 8/10.

Someone's gotta make one of those "What's your wolf name?" things but for alchemist titles. You know the ones, it asks like what letter your name starts with and the month you were born in to spit out the name "Moon Moon" at you.
