"why are you OBSESSED with this topic, why do you care SO much" says the person who has not stopped arguing with me about it themselves. My autistic ass will reply to you every time even if I end up repeating myself like a robot because it only takes a second of my time and my mental loop convinces me that this time, surely, you are going to agree. My dedication isn't even tied to the personal importance of the topic but to how wrong I think you're being. It somehow hooks me right in like an addictive novel I can't put down 🤷♀️
thinking about how angels and demons treat their kids compared to humans, like-
was the demon kings neglect really extreme enough to be some form of abuse in actual demon society? Why is Luke expected to cook for Simeon and Solomon? Why is Luke treated so- weirdly??
For Diavolo, I think he was overselling his tragic childhood a bit- I'm your average Diavolo hater but I seriously do think he was just severely under socialized and if he was around other children and their parents he would realize that hey, my dad definitely has something against me but he's a pretty basic demon parent™️ (also he would resent his own species less frfr)
I say this because of the casual(?) way he treated that death trap his father called teaching in nightbringer, I like to imagine that he's actually grown since his comically lonely childhood and is able to rationalize it properly.
Anyways this post is actually mostly about Luke
so, I feel like Luke wouldn't understand what to do if you held your hand out to him, like I imagine angels don't really chaperone their youngest that directly,
(considering how much they put the little lad to work and how in nightbringer Luke took over the cooking entirely??? Like- immediately?)
so Luke wouldn't understand the very human desire to protect their stupid offspring in small ways,
human children are barely alive and will fully walk into the street if unsupervised, angel children will not.
If you were out in public with Luke and you're leaving a store and you do that silent stretching out your hand for them to take that parents do he would just stare at you like "why's your hand in my face 🤨" it would probably be real awkward

The fact that in Obey Me the food always has some sort of "demonic twist" to the name (Hellfire Mushrooms, ext ext) but Pickles are just normal ass pickles is so funny to like,
either pickles originated in the Devildom OR some bastard brought them over from the human world and they just spread like an infection

I think there's a disturbing lack of platonic Barbatos x Diavolo fanfic. Liiike...Diavolo grew up basically an orphan and Barbatos kind of adopted him
Diavolo's mom died and his dad flat out semi-abandoned him and Diavolo was left alone. His only friend was Mephistopheles and the term "friend" doesn't feel quite right since he only hung around because of Diavolo's status (I know Mephistopheles family pressured him and all so I don't hate the guy, but his intentions weren't purely out of care for Diavolo, and I know deep down Diavolo knew that and thats why he favors Lucifer)
I need more fanfiction of Diavolo as a kid interacting with his new dad Barbatos

Now that I think about it while also considering we now know that Diavolo was raised by Barbatos- it makes sense he "favors" Lucifer over Barbie (and says Lucifer is his most trusted something or another)
It also explains why Barbie doesn't outwardly seem upset by it even in the most subbest of subtext, I mean.- if I had a loser son like Diavolo I'd be pretty hyped for him making a single (1) friend >>
Anyways.
Barbatos is just his dad, and yes the word *just* feels insulting but it's true. (Assuming you have friends) you'd know that often times they become a main focus for us over our family, especially as we age and create an identity for ourselves. Family- and most importantly parents in this case, tend to take a backseat to lovers and your closest friend(s).
And it's not necessarily a bad thing! A parent- In a healthy best case scenario, takes the role as someone you can fall back on, someone who is there for you and can provide paternal comfort- and this is exactly the role Barbatos is beginning to take in Diavolo's life as he becomes the next demon king! Diavolo can absolutely not be dependent on Barbie forever, he has to fully grow up one day, and therefore NEEDS to find other people who he can be dependent on in a hopefully healthy way, ie. His right hand man, Lucifer.
(And MC and Levi but fuck those two).
Yes, in some nightmare timeline if Diavolo had to choose between one living and one dying for any reason he'd pick Barbatos. Obviously.
So, tldr; Barbatos is Diavolo's dad, Lucifer is his by proximity best friend and Diavolo is- while oh so excruciatingly slowly- growing as a person and we should follow Barbatos' lead and encourage our baby boy.
And ya, okay maybe it took Diavolo a few more million years than a normal child and also he isn't a child but hey! It worked out I think >:) ;;

Diavolo spends so much of his time admiring the exoticness of humans and being enthralled in the majestic beauty of angels that he sees his own species as less than and hates that they can't act more like one of the former.
-So he tries to force it, even just more minor things like making demons stay in their "human looks" when we all know it would be infinitely more comfortable for them to not be, or more major thinks like fully removing the demons permission to go to the human world to do classic demon bullshit that they want to do by nature..
We don't get alot of into about the "student body" but when we do it's usually them being chaotic (as you'd expect from demons) and usually excited about whatever they're being subjected to, these are demons who don't really care about anything and are just looking for their next dopamine rush, but at the same time these demons, while being the most compatible with RAD ( willing participants ), are exactly the demons Diavolo doesn't respect, demons that "give in" to natural demon attitudes, they're destructive and just trying to have a good time, the only thing that use to be expected of demons..
And all of this is only amplified when you think about the fact that Diavolo himself acts like all the demons he claims to hold in such low regards, he's chaotic, he leverages his power over people to get them to do what he wants, he manipulates peoples emotions, and he's a little bitch, (among other things-)
All ot these are classic demon behaviors that Diavolo would look down on if any lesser demon partook in
( Also let's not even get into the ranking of "LESSER DEMON" like that is so fucking disrespectful- )
Diavolo's opinions on demons feel the same as a "foreign" child being made to learn about their own culture while living in America, (I would know I was that child), they don't understand why it would be important to their parents and teachers that their culture be preserved and at their age they don't care.. The difference is that Diavolo is the literal ruler of the same species he has this opinion of and he's a grown ass adult (presumably)
As the acting ruler he says his job is to oversee the devildom or something, make sure everything is running smoothly, and I don't know who told him this but they left out a major part,
Yes while it is his job to make sure all the demon don't decide to civil war on each other, his job is also to respect his citizens, you wouldn't expect this to have to be said would you? But please remember that Diavolo is a dumbass and an asshole.
He doesn't seem to understand or atleast respect the idea that a ruler should be the biggest advocator for the culture of the land, he thinks because he's the "strongest demon in the devildom" and he was given the title ruler that he has the right to impose his will on everyone and force them into boxes and make them play his games. And he fucking does because no one is stopping him!!
I also never respected his "wish" it seems childish and misinformed, my first thought when I heard it was "why would humans be involved," while it makes plausible sense that angels and demons have beef, adding humans to the mix seems completely pointless- Mc, upon arrival to the Devildom was confused, we're even given the choice to ask if we're dreaming, also demons feel the need to hide their demonness while 8n the human world, this implies that the general human public is NOT aware of the existence of demons and probably not aware of angels either, other than witches, sorcerers and general magic users- humans as a whole take no interest in demons
When Diavolo says he has humans that show interest in his little plan he's either lying out his ass or talking about magic users who either are trying to manipulate him or want easier access to hell.. If all of Solomon's pacts are any indication of what the wider human magic community think of demons- atleast that's what I read it as-
The Angels don't respect Diavolo, Michael probably thinks he's a joke, and they are right to do so, I think the angels agreed to the program for three reasons, to size the demons up ( if a war was to happen, how good are their chances of winning?), To spy on Lucifer and his brothers, and because humans were involved (I honestly don't think the angels would just sit back and watch as Diavolo ripped some defenseless human out of their home and make them stay in hell)
Also, DIAVOLO THE DEMONS DON'T NEED TO GET MEDICAL CHECKUPS THEY HAVE MAGIC THEY CAN PROBABLY HEAL THEMSELVES YOU FUCKIN-

This fucking guy (who is essentially a millennial in demon years) comes around and starts spreading pro angel, pro human propaganda and forcing grown ass adults to go to school?
I'd be the first to try and organize a hostile takeover and get my ass ran by Lucifer and Barbatos
Also the devildom is like, so fucking dystopian and fucked up, like RAD is literally used to control the residents of hell in the most direct way possible, forcing them to wake up and attend "classes" and get punished if they take part in typical demon behavior? All in the name of their shitty rulers SON? Like wtf he's not even the king why can he do this
I'd be so mad if I was older than Diavolo and got the news that I was being forced to go to some cheap human school replica
I'd try to kill him honestly

This is about the "Diavolo isn't a himbo" post @midnightsunnyday He feels to me like he has no consistency, everyone reads him differently -
(More than the other characters, yes including Lucifer, ppl who hate Lucifer are usually aware of his “softer” character traits but choose to dislike his core personality, like me lol-). He's hyper intelligent, but he's a big dumby, but he's ~sexily seductive~ but he's a baby/manchild that is wildly incapable of taking care of himself without his malewife of a butler, but he's so “thoughtful” and """sees everything""". Barbatos sees him like a god apparently but he's such a dumbass-. All of these are true and contradictory traits that Dia shows throughout the events and main story (Events more so). He's a walking paradox, sometimes its jarring how he switches it up, so consistently. Do we remember how smooth he acted in the VR capture the flag event? (The one where Mc is the flag) all his “my dear” and smooth talking it came out of nowhere, I was pleasantly surprised but the way no other character was like "hey wait wtf?" No, they just act as if he's always acted like that, at least while he was being a menace they reacted even slightly naturally, but when he's just out of character they're just like, "ya there he is"
My theory is, Diavolo is a strangely multifaceted character in an anime dating game with 11 other characters. These other characters require their own characterization, you can't choose routes, so all of them have to be featured in every event. Speaking of- the events are short and to make this character fit in with these (surprisingly) equally multifaceted characters they pick out one of his character traits and flanderized it to hell and back for one event and pick another the next. But anyways ya I love him, what do you guys think?
