Reblog this on the first of the month for good luck all month long!
ITS TWO AM HOW TF š
part luck + part privilege + part hard work + part talent
Luck and talent cannot be controlled
Privilege can be influenced or bought
That's why we focus on hard work
But if we don't succeed, it's not always because we didn't work hard enough
And actually it's almost always luck
Soup - New Year's Soup This hearty soup contains both black-eyed peas and collard greens, which are traditional foods to eat on New Year's Day for luck and wealth.

Look, I don't believe in fate or any sort of higher power, but I do have one singular instance where I've been questioning it.
(TLDR: I got super lucky and randomly got a gp who had a lot of past experience with tourettes syndrome when I first developed symptoms)
When I was 13 I developed a very sudden and severe tic disorder (aka tourettes syndrome) so my mom took me to the doctor. I shared a gp with my mom cause that's just how it works where I live, but this particular day she was out sick, so I got a substitute. Said substitute did not actually work at the medical practice at this time, and was just filling in for a few days.
But it turns out that this doctor had previously worked in psychiatric care, specializing in youth with neurological condition, including tourettes. Aka, she had a lot of knowledge AND contacts.
(Side note, mental health care in norway is horrendous, especially if you're under 18, they are extremely understaffed and the waitlists are often over 6 months. And unfortunately these wait lists can be sped up if you just have someone on your side who calls them a lot and demands they see you sooner. This is very unfortunate for people who don't have a support system that can pull strings etc for them)
So the doctor put me on a pill that had shown some success in minimizing tics, so that I'd hopefully not give myself wiplash or any other lasting damage to my neck and spine, while waiting for a session with a specialist. (Said pill worked a lil bit but I still have lasting back issues from the intense tics 8 years later) She then immedeately referred me to a psychiatrist that specialized in tics and treating them.
Now, I was very lucky to have a SHORT waiting time, but it was still 3 months, and if you have hundreds of tics a day you can do some pretty intense damage to your body in 3 months, and the only reason I got in so fast was due to the doctor's contacts.
I had regular follow ups with said doctor, cause it turns out she was placed at that doctor's practice for an extended amount of time, and it just made sense that she would follow up on this particular case.
Once the treatment and stuff started to have an effect, the doctor had gotten a permanent possision at the practice and was sharing patients with another doctor to help lighten the load. So I could simply fill out a form and badabim badaboom she was my official gp (changing gps in norway is very dofficult, cause everyone's lists with the maximum amount of patients they can have is completely full, with a bunch waiting, and the only time a spot opens up is if someone dies, but I was really lucky as she was just getting started and basically had an empty list)
She is still my doctor to this day, and really great at what she does. And I'm extremely thankful for the fact that she was there that first day and that she had the possibility to follow up

I know everyone and their mother has done a Felix Felicis Spell, but screw it, its St. Patrickās Day and everyone needs a little luck.Ā * Inspired by the potion from J.K. Rowlingās Harry Potter Series.* Needed:Ā - A Tea of your choice! ( I recommend Green, Black, or something with Orange, pineapple or pomegranate in it) - Honey - Cinnamon - A bit of sugar - A spoon
Steps:Ā - Brew your tea as you like it and let it cool just a bit.Ā - Add a spoonful of honey, a pinch of cinnamon, and a spoonful of sugar.Ā - First, stir your potion counter clockwise and say/think: ā Bad luck begone, From me and all I own, your affects are well-known,Ā and now you will leave me alone.ā - Now, stir clockwise, and say/think: āGood luck I invite, to free me of this blight,Ā and give me the insight,Ā to bring about my own delight!āĀ - Drink your tea and go about a luckier person for the day!

All right, Iām not clean, proud nor happy about this but facts are true when we like them and when we donāt. These three films are brilliant (in my opinion), and I love them and while I will not purchase anything related to the man behind the shadows of these films, to not have them included in my favorites would be a lieāso I crammed them all together as films I wish were associated with someone else āand thatās all I can say on the matter as my alliance for these films still struggles.
The Curse of the Jade ScorpionĀ
Way back when, my family (mostly my Dad and I) would watch two films on New Yearās Eve instead of just one, along with getting Chinese food for dinner. The Curse of the Jade Scorpion was one of the first ones, one we watched at least a second New Yearās Eve and is one of my favorite comedies. I have re-watched it many times and I always love it. Like its main character, itās ridiculous and cartoon-like, perfectly matching the music that goes with it--like a live-action Bugs Bunny cartoon. Watching an investigator thump around and somehow, luckily solve the mysteryāis preposterous, even more so than the romantic ending. But if you find to have similar taste as I do, which most donāt, this one will have you laugh out loud so much that your father starts to watch from another room.
Crimes and Misdemeanors
Please, please, hold the accurate screams for the stars of this film that escape from your body as if you are a stereotyped middle school girl from ten years ago that just saw Justin Bieber. Sam Waterson, Jerry Orbach (RIP) and Alan Aldaāheaven and probably my main reasons for loving this film (in order) not just because it was them but because I saw a different character of them that I was more used to (thou not Alan Alda in this case, I agree he was schmucky). I would agree with other reviewers that itās not exactly the suspense of whatās going to happen that fuels the story but what these āaverageā people will do, how they will react and how the rest of their lives will be impacted. Except for Judahās connection to hitman, and part of the story having a connection to the acting/film industryāthe stories are all pretty common. People who are in unhappy marriages, people who have affairs; these stories are common. A lot of ācoming of ageā stories are about teenagers and young adults, but after 50 or so years sometimes we come to a new level of understanding of ourselves or a different realization than before and make different choices and we adapt again rising to a new challenge or falling below expectationsābut which one was which
āAnd after the awful deed is done, he finds that he's plagued by deep-rooted guilt. Little sparks of his religious background which he'd rejected are suddenly stirred up. He hears his father's voice. He imagines that God is watching his every move. Suddenly, it's not an empty universe at all, but a just and moral one, and he's violated it.ā
Match Point
Match Point really is just an extension of Crimes and Misdemeanors, the only larger change is that the ending result comes from a combination of the actions of the main character along with āfateā as opposed to just dumb luck. Both main characters in Crimes and Misdemeanors and Match Point show that with real consequences, the choices you make are different than what you think they would be; but also how your worst choices show your true character because even thou both Judah and Tom both felt extreme guiltā¦.they got over it pretty quickly
Ā Shout out: Melinda and Melinda a complete extreme of how perspective can shape so much
Hair like black lace
A beautiful kind of tangled
I'm happy that I was once her case
Sophisticated
Yet humble
I'm intoxicated
On you
You hate chunky orange juice
I hate being away from you
So for now, you are my muse
You are becoming abstract thought
I find this interesting
My eyes searching but not
Getting caught
I'm high
On you and your missing presence
And yet you feel nearby
I'm reaching
For her extra crazy hope
That sheās superb at teaching
With her bad analogies
Her and her flawed
Perfectness
She was just the right kind of odd,
I'm like a spider with a web and sheās like a bug thatās stuck
She has no idea that she has been caught in my poetry
What sweet luck,
Because I miss you so
When it came to life
They had their tires spinning
But I like to believe I was somehow the one who was winning
When it came to life
They made me feel unwanted in theirs
They are the heirs with the mean stares
I would like to believe
That Iām going to shine brighter
But Iām not the one who owns a lighter
I would like to believe
That Iām the one who is going to get around
But Iām stuck in the background
When it came to life
It seemed like they are naturally smart
I on the other hand, donāt even know where to start
When it came to life
They always managed to get luck and look good
I, on the other hand, look like a girl made of wood
I would like to believe
That someday I will be above all of this
Instead of being traded like baseball cards, Iāll have a person to kiss
I would like to believe
That none of this will matter
And Iāll be on the mound tauntingly saying, swing batter batter swing batter batter
When it came to life
They gave no real shits about my existence
And yet I kept with my foolish persistence
When it came to life
They had their own group
And I wasn't really part of the loop
