I am, in fact, very normal about this podcast (:
TMA is something I’ve never seen coming. The rapid 180 degree changes, the whiplash from which hits you hard, makes you fall out of your seat and stare in the middle of the wall, wondering “..what just happened..”
Never have I ever been so inspired, driven by something so invigorating, so potent in its way of conveying emotions.
So many days have been met with lost eyes, absolutely aghast at what I just listened to. So many nights and unwise decisions to listen to one more episode, just one, and then dozing off with the first glimpses of dawn
I regret nothing. Not the tears, not the pain, not the time. TMA, thank you for introducing me to the part of me I didn’t know I had.

he’s essentially a living optic nerve. the tower is there to direct and stabilize the connection held in the pupil. when he’s in the panopticon he serves as both the center of the tether to reality and the closest thing the eye has to a mind.
he can fly, but as pupil, he isn’t affected by gravity so his wings and legs are vestigial. the furthest he can reach with his body is the floor of that room.
the archivists serve as a defense system because jon is basically a vital organ and fairly physically vulnerable. they’re very fast and can fly short distances but usually just cling to walls and crawl. they have about the same level of sentience as beholding itself (not much). jon can maneuver them as external limbs but when he isn’t, they kind of just run on eye-autopilot.
Most drowning-based incidents are typically toss-ups between the Vast and the Buried- but this is absolutely the Buried. The Vast functions by making it's victims feel microscopic in the wake of something great and uncaring The people who made Oceangate happen had their egos inflated enough to think they could best the ocean with a game controller. The Vast ain't touchin' that.

I was that special combo of being late to the party while having somehow seen no spoilers for it, just spent 200 episodes knowing nothing of what was to come while my friends who recommended it to me cackled in the background.
It was fantastic!
It however meant I had to avoid the fandom until I was finished, which hi everyone, how are we doing? Still feeling very normal about this podcast?

Guess who finished their first ever listen of The Magnus Archives January 1st. Me. It was me. Happy new year I'm still not emotionally recovered.

Mikaele Salesa is geniunely one of my favourite characters
So Salesa worked for motherfucking JURGEN LEITNER, saw a guy get eaten by a book and still thought, yeah I'm staying in this line of work but no books. INSANE BEHAVIOUR. And I think it somehow worked out for him, like how? My theory is that he was protected by the secret 15th fear, capitalism

The thing about watching TMA is that you spend 200 episodes being told that Jon's fatal flaw is his inability to "turn a blind eye" from anything, and yet, when you hear about a women who wakes up in a fresh grave on her every birthday, you, like Jon, want to hear that story too.
You (or otherwise known as the audience) know just as well as Jon that by taking statements he loses a bit of humanity and dooms the statement giver to relive their trauma every night in their sleep. But... that knowledge is tempting. It's so hard not to want to know. I mean, which birthday did it start? Which entity causes it? How does the statement giver feel about what's happening to her? You want to know so many things, despite understanding that's all for worst.
I think the point of TMA is that audience IS Jon to a certain degree. I think we're supposed to be just as bad as he is when it comes to the pursuit of understanding and knowledge, even when it's something that should be left alone. And the moment in the screenshot above is when I first had that thought, because when I first saw this conversation I went "Is he not going to elaborate on her story? That's kind of disappointing. I would have loved to get a full statement on that." Only to realize "Oh. Yikes. That's the exact same mindset that has lead Jon to this point."
So.
I listened to one episode of tma last night.
Guess the episode based on how insane I went:
Time has stopped. I listen to one episode of this and suddenly all time stops. What do you mean it’s only been an hour? What do you mean that just being reminded of them turns my inner voice into theirs? Into his?
My mind tries to fill itself with static to maybe rid itself of his voice. Of their voices. Go back to what it once was. But it won’t. There’s no going back on a promise that you shouted out to the world. The voices of the people inside this glowing rectangle in my hands will be waiting. Each day I will go back and each day I march closer and closer to oblivion. I have his speech pattern down to a t. I have the voices tuned like the ones in the machine, able to be twisted and distorted, but never truly being mine.
The music itself is trying to drown it out. But it won’t. It knows the voice. Any time it is mentioned, it shudders. There is a dread behind it all. That it will end. Each day I listen, I walk ever closer to oblivion. I walk into the open arms of death, of life, of chaos, of fear. This whole ordeal, this monologue, spoken through the mouth of a man who has no control over his mind once a tape begins to play, all spawned from something simple. A set of six voices. The Book Burner. The Catalyst. The Replaced. The Ignition. The Lost. The Archivist. Six voices, a creaking cabin that threatens to swallow them whole, a world slick with the blood and choking cries of the survivors, and an ever so invasive god peering down and watching it all. He may not know it, but something exists beneath his skin. A power that wants to be released. If one misstep occurs, if anything goes wrong, the shell will burst. And nothing will be able to stop what emerges. Not even the one who raised the larvae, and prepared the resting bed for the cocoon. He too will be forced to face the monster he has created. But that can wait.
58 days. Maybe less. But no matter how long it takes, it will continue. And it will end. As I march, ever forward, toward oblivion.
