Ody received a divine favor and is cocky when he has security and that's why he went to bother Poseidon. Plus, he's the one who gave Hades the idea for the trident replica 👀

OOOOODYSSEUS OF ITHACAAAAAA

One piece is a reimagining of the Odyssey but kind of in reverse.

Each member of the strawhat crew reflects different aspects of Odysseus, Luffy is his trickster nature, Zorro is the blood lust, Nami is sailing prowess, Robin is the strategist, Franky is his ingenuity, Chopper is his empathy, Brook is his determination, and Jinbe is his wisdom.

I wanna say Enel is Posideon, Shanks is Athena, Emu is Zeus, and Law is Hermes.

Going in to what I ment by one piece being the odyssey in reverse:

There are some story beats that match up in reverse like starting the series with Luffy on a raft that gets sunk in a whirlpool like how Odysseus took on Charybdis.

Odysseus: (sleeping next to Penelope)

Penelope: Nice.

Odysseus: (cuddles closer to Penelope, still sleeping)

Penelope: (choking back tears) N I C E.

Summary:

He heard the footsteps before he saw their owner, quick and determined. When the slight night breeze blew one tent flap open, Odysseus caught sight of Patroclus emerging from between the rows of tents, his face set with purpose. Something heavy settled in Odysseus's chest at the sight. He had known—or would know—this was coming. He had known Patroclus would come back. He waited as the young man lingers outside his tent. He could hear him pacing, the scuff of his sandals in the coarse sand easy to follow. Odysseus was patient, there was plenty of wax left of his candle. "Odysseus," Patroclus called out finally, slightly breathless, lifting a flap of the tent, the lantern casting the young man's features in a soft warm glow as he appeared from the darkness. "I need your counsel."

AKA EPIC!Ody finds himself back to the fateful day Pat wears the armor. Odysseus is different.

Are we gonna talk about how Penelope outsmarted the 108 suitors for YEARS. But also outsmarted Odysseus by pointing out the flaws in his own argument on how he is not who she fell in love with. Penelope endured for 20 years, never doubting, dedicated, keeping Ithaca together. She kept peace, and she also faced the monster Odysseus head on and said, “you are still in there and I love you still.”

Ok imma be real, like a week ago I was doing some studies of a few people’s odysseus designs i liked, and one doodle playing around with the face of @seasicksilver ‘s odysseus design turned into another and im soooo obsessed with drawing him like this now. Their Odysseus is so hhhghg now this design sorta based on theirs is literally all i draw and lives on all my notes. Heres a dump
