You know, I do like Higuchi as a BSD character.
But sometimes I can’t help but wonder why she’s in the position she’s in. Being in the Mafia is clearly not up her alley. Especially in relation to being any sort of bodyguard to Akutagawa. (It’s not that she lacks combat skill, it’s simply that Akutagawa far surpasses her in that area. Almost everyone in the Black Lizard does.)
But after reading beast and giving it some thought, my personal headcanon has become that she does all the…NOT killing stuff.
She’s basically secretary and manager.
Shes the one who delivers Akutagawa his missions when Mori himself can’t. She’s the one who handles much of the paperwork for the Black Lizard. She’s the one who brings morale and helps keep the group members from killing each other (even if sometimes that leads to her becoming their metaphorical punching bag.)
I dunno, the Black Lizard just seems kind of chaotic to me. You cannot convince me they would be able to keep it together if they didn’t have someone keeping them in line somewhat.
Sure they have Hirotsu, but his hold really only extends to Gin and Tachihara. And honestly, the fact that Hirotsu is there at all tells me all I need to know.
I know Soukoku is an overrated ship. But the angst we can create with Dazai and Chuuya is such a specific flavor fucked up but painfully poetic that it’s hard not to at least find them interesting.
Like what about the Soukoku where Chuuya sees Dazai again after several years of separation, and he’s the same.
Chuuya sees Dazai, and sure, on the surface he seems like a changed man. Happier. Better. A person who fights for good.
But Chuuya knows Dazai, and he knows that Dazai is only pretending. He knows Dazai is trying so hard to be this other person. To be what Odasaku wanted. He’s gone and tried to change everything about himself but his name, yet no matter how desperate he is he cannot escape who he once was. Who he was in the Port Mafia. Who Mori trained him to be.
And Dazai knows Chuuya knows, but it’s such an easy comfort. His old habits are down right addictive, after all. Every moment spent with Chuuya, Dazai risks falling into who he used to be.
Neither of them want that, but the idea of the ever looming possibility that everything Dazai worked for could be ruined by the Chuuya’s mere existence and the act of Dazai loving him is so very compelling to me.
Considering what I know about irl Kunikida, it would be cool if it was the former. Stuff about his childhood is kinda hard to find, but from what it seems he may have had a decent relationship with his parents..?
Then again, Asagiri really does do whatever he wants with these characters, so that idea has absolutely no bearing here.
Idk if we ever hear about Kunikida’s parents. But I headcanon them as either being chill loveable folk who love and support Kunikida whatever he does in life.
Or that they are incredibly strict people who tried to mould Kunikida into fitting their image of the ideal man. Maybe he never wanted to go to college or be a teacher but was pretty much forced into it.
That he spent his whole life trying to live by their ideals until ultimately choosing his own. And that pissed as hell out of them.
There’s no in between.
Recently I’ve been going back through BSD to do some analysis and I was thinking about Atsushi as the tiger, and what the tiger symbolizes.
I think the tiger is a good allegory for Atsushi’s views on himself as a person. And hear me out:
At the start of the story, Atsushi fears the tiger, but he also seems to hold some spite towards it due to it being the cause of him getting kicked out of the orphanage.
But then we learn that Atsushi is the tiger, and Atsushi himself feels terrible about it. There is suddenly no separation between himself and the tiger in his mind. They are one and the same, and he is just as responsible for everything as the tiger is. He hates the tiger, he doesn’t trust it, and he doesn’t understand it.
And he is the tiger.
It’s kinda common knowledge that Atsushi hates himself, nor does he trust himself, and that is reflected in the fact that the tiger is shown to be an uncontrollable, bloodthirsty creature. It does nothing good for anyone; just as Atsushi thinks he himself does nothing good or useful for anyone.
I’d also like to mention the fact that during chapter/episode one (1), when Atsushi is revealed as the tiger, Dazai is the one to stop it with his ability, and I think that’s an excellent little nod to how it is through Dazai (and by extension the rest of the ADA) that Atsushi is able to begin to trust himself more, and have more value in himself as a person.
Of course later on, Atsushi does make peace with the tiger, and it’s such a powerful moment because it’s not just Atsushi reconciling with the tiger, it’s Atsushi reconciling with himself as well. And I think it shows his growth as a character just fantastically.
I’m open to hearing the thoughts of others as well of course :]
I feel like Chuuya would have a blast Formula 1 racing
If Atsushi gets transferred
Akutagawa: Jinko, it’s 4am why on earth are you making Chakuze?
Atsushi: Because I’ve lost control over my life.
Guys please give me your bsd disability headcanons I require sustenance
When it’s the teen members of the agency who mess up or something, it’s usually Kunikida who talks and lectures them about it. Sometimes the others will join in like Dazai or Yosano and if it’s really serious Fukuzawa will get involved, but it’s generally Kunikida.
But when the senior members of the Agency mess up or something it’s always Fukuzawa who talks to them. The only one who gets a bonus Kunikida lecture with it is Dazai. And it’s always so surreal for the teens to watch them hang their heads theatrically and head to Fukuzawa’s office.
Kunikida’a lectures pretty much always start with "what the hell were you thinking! Oh that’s right, you weren’t!" While Fukuzawa ages like 30 years, sighs heavily into his tea and is just like "I’m not mad, just disappointed."
And yet both end them by offering support and making sure everyone’s okay. Because at the end of the day whatever mistakes were made can’t be changed, what we can do is go forward with what we’ve learned to change what comes next. And all these talks come from a place of concern, of care.
Kunikida put down his tea cup. "How do I know if my words will reach them?" Fukuzawa looked from his protege to the door, gesturing him to open it. Kunikida did so, and was surprised to see Atsushi on the other side. "Oh, erm sorry Kunikida I didn’t realise you guys were busy I can come later." Kunikida shook his head, they were just wrapping up anyway. "What’s wrong Atsushi?" Atsushi went quiet before explaining his issue. "I was going to do it alone but earlier you said to call one of you for help. And Miss Yosano is busy and Ranpo and Dazai are out."
Kunikida nodded "I’m glad you came to me. Go back to your desk, I’ll be there in a minute." Atsushi smiled, relieved and went. "You’ll know" said Fukuzawa, getting Kunikida’s attention. "You’ll know your words have reached them when they come back and ask for your more." He said with a proud smile.
Genuinely, it’s so easy to see Sigma being tired of such big behind the scenes roles, even if it’s for the Agency.
Especially because the Agency seems to already have their fill of administration and support members. (The structure of that place is kind of a mess but it works very effectively.)
It would be nice to see Sigma go through the journey of trying to put himself into a place like that, only to realize that’s not he wants, and it’s not where he fits.
Being a part of a family doesn’t mean you have to be a member of their group or organization. The best families are the ones who let you choose the path that is best for you.
So then he ends up at the cafe, and is able to build his own life and identity in that space for the first time ever.
I don't want Sigma to become a detective, purely because I don't think that's what he wants either.
He wants the love, trust and care of the Agency, he wants the same bond Dazai has with the others. He's craving a home, a family, and the Agency is the first place he's seen have that.
But he's also highly strung and nervous, he doesn't seem to like being in combative and dangerous situations. Which being a detective would place him in. He does however seem to genuinely enjoy interacting with people and providing services for people.
He loved the sky casino and whilst the sheer size of his customer base overwhelmed him, he genuinely cared about that place and making people happy.
I think, if he does join the Agency, he should join it on the administrative side. He'd get to show off his organizational skills and he'd be helping people whilst staying out of action. He has great memory so going through case files and doing the behind the scenes research to aid the detectives out on the field would suit him well. He could also attend meetings with Fukuzawa, who hates having to talk business and help with the Agency's connections.
Alternatively, if he doesn't join the Agency, I think it would be fun if he also got a job at the cafe.
Again, I think he just enjoys customer service type roles and the owner has already adopted one stray in Lucy, why not another? Sigma and Lucy would be such a fun combo, I'd love to see them interacting with the Agency whenever they're in the cafe.
I like to think Kunikida is aroace or at the very least on that spectrum.
This is the hill I will passively sit on as I watch everyone else fight to their deaths.
Dazai is not the type of person who likes to go shopping for himself. (Especially not on his own dime.)
So, he doesn’t normally realize he’s out of shampoo until it’s gone.
When that happens, he just steals some from Kunikida, because Kunikida always has an extra bottle lined up for when he runs out.
But Dazai’s done this so many times now that not only does Kunikida know it’s Dazai, he’s also begun to just buy another extra to keep in his cabinet. Except this one is a brand he picked personally for Dazai, suited for his greasy ass hair and everything.
He never said anything about it.
And although Dazai will never say it out loud, he’s just as grateful as he is amused.
As well all know, Atsushi’s haircut is the result of the other kids at the orphanage. They would cut his hair without caring, and any time he tried to cut it himself, they would take the scissors and “cut it for him.”
So it’s only natural that Atsushi would grow to hate getting haircuts from anyone.
It’s not that he doesn’t trust the kind people in his life to try their best, (well, except maybe Dazai) it’s that it reminds him so much of what the other kids would do. And that puts him on edge the entire time.
He sits there, waiting, expecting them to suddenly yank his hair and start cutting at random while laughing and taunting him. And he hates feeling like those he cares about are going to hurt him. So he cuts his hair himself.
Maybe one day he can re-learn that trust, but for now he’s content to do it himself. Even if he’s less than good at it.
Being a former evemy of the Port Mafia must've made Chuuya's early years as a member a little awkward.
Mori: Excellent work as always Chuuya.
Chuuya: Thank you Boss.
Mori: Although, I am intrigued by how it is you knew about that particular blind spot in our security.
Chuuya: Ex King of the Sheep... I'm gonna need you to be cool with a bunch of stuff real quick before I explain.
Please oh great citizens of tumblr.com, bestow upon me your BSD headcanons
This is an emergency actually
I SWEAR TO HELL, SOMEONE EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT FYODOR’S DEAL IS RIGHT NOW. I AM ON MY KNEES. WHY IS HE LIKE THIS.
Thinking about how Soukoku’s physical intimacy must have played out over the years.
Soukoku at 15, two teenagers who have hardly felt a gentle touch in their lives. Both unknowing how to initiate things, and at first making up for the touch starvation by picking fights with one another. A punch becomes more reassuring then a gentle hand ever could.
But slowly, the lines stop mattering. Touches linger, distance shortens, and physical closeness becomes more grounding than aggression ever had.
By the time they are 17, they have no concept of a line. They are close freely, albeit in unconventional ways: literally butting heads, practically lounging on top of each other on couches and beds, and helping one another with first aid.
The relationship they have confuses those around them, but for the two of them, labels never mattered. They are simply partners. Two forces that work in tandem.
Following the Dragon’s Head Conflict, they begin to drift. Then when Dazai leaves, it all ends.
There are no more quiet moments of just basking in each other’s presence. No more lingering touches. Not even any more fighting.
I wish I could say that when they work together again at 22 years old, they resume everything like they used to, but I think it takes more time for them to fall back into things again.
By that point their relationship is completely different; they’d have to find new ways to navigate things.
But I think they could get there eventually.
The ADA’s driving situation is so funny to me when I think about it, like-
Dazai is such a bad driver him even being near the car greatly increases your chances of crashing.
Atushi can’t drive for shit because he was stuck in the orphanage until he was 18.
Ranpo doesn’t even know how to ride a damn train and is so bad at navigating I can’t tell if he’s bullshitting or not.
Kenji probably didn’t even know what a car was until he joined the Agency.
Kunikida can maybe drive but he’s probably going way too fast at any given time regardless of the situation.
I don’t even want to think about what would happen if you put one of the Tanizaki siblings behind the wheel, especially if they were both in the car at the same time.
Have you ever seen Fukuzawa in the same room as a car?
And Yosano is yet to be determined.
So that leaves Kyouka. The 14 year old child as the Agency’s main driver when something comes up. And even she’s kinda reckless.
Long haired Atsushi for the win!!! Let the kid grow it out!!
Thinking about Atsushi's hair, that there's one long part and if that's the only bit he managed to save.
Whhen the kids held him down and cut his hair, that one part is all Atsushi could stop them from reaching.
Guys new headcanon just dropped:
Rimbaud has never really been a fan of people touching his hair. He doesn’t even let anyone but himself cut it.
But, when he’s stressed, he likes to braid it. It helps keep him busy.
Now, what if Verlaine happened upon Rimbaud doing this one day, and wanted to learn how to braid too.
Rimbaud teaches Verlaine how to braid, and Verlaine starts wearing braids in his hair regularly. (Even after Rimbaud’s death, despite it reminding him of what he lost.)
It is just like how he hangs on to the hat Rimbaud gave him. It helps him to establish his own identity a little bit. It also gives him a quiet way to honor Rimbaud’s memory.
Oh. I have so many.
Anyway, whenever Dazai would get sick as a teen, he would blame it on Chuuya and then force Chuuya to take care of him because ‘it’s your fault anyway’.
Chuuya would begrudgingly do it even though he very quickly learned that 9 times out of 10 it wasn’t his fault Dazai was sick.
This became a habit of theirs, and now even Dazai will care for Chuuya if he gets sick. They don’t even have to say anything to one another about it, it’s just how it works in their minds.
Guys share ur domestic skk headcanons with me rn bc im in a life and death situation and only knowing more domestic skk headcanons can save me!! Trust!!!!!
Okay but we could take this further: a whole AU where everyone’s powers are reversed in some way or another.
A Dazai whose ability actually causes others’ abilities to activate when he touches them. (Forever Human)
An Oda whose ability lets him see seconds into the past rather than the future. (Flawed)
A Yosano whose ability kills perfectly healthy people instead of healing those near death. (Thou Shalt Perish)
A Kenji who is strong naturally but his ability makes him become weak but happy. (Defeated by the Sun)
A Fukuzawa whose ability makes the abilities of those in ranks above him near impossible to control. (No Men Are Equal)
A Chuuya whose gravity manipulation is limited only to putting extreme gravity on things he touches, and instead of corruption he gets purification, which actually restores him and limits his gravity ability, allowing him to use it how he would under normal circumstances. (Upon the Holly Smile)
A Bram who isn’t a vampire and can cure vampires instead of creating them. (Vampiris’nt)
A Fyodor who ACTUALLY FUCKING DIES.
Bsd except Atsushi is a reverse Weretiger aka he is a tiger that can transform into a human.
The Orphanage still ended up with him but treated him like a beast, only letting him out on the full moon.
But human Atsushi is rather unhinged and doesn't human well so feral tiger boy it is.
He's not a rampaging tiger, hes a weirdly very behaved random tiger all things considered. But he's still freaking people out and he's a menace on either form.
Atsushi can hold his human form better with All Men Are Equals. But Dazai will boop him and bam giant white tiger that bonks him on the head.
Akutagawa is just screaming insults at a very bewildered and than pissed off tiger. He's roaring and Akutugawa is screaming and they come to a werid agreement.
Atsushi is still a member of the Agency, tiger or human. He's got a lil badge and everything. Dazai is just like nah its cool guys this is our office tiger.
Cut to him getting bonked on the head, again.
Knowing what we know now about Fyodor’s ability makes me wonder what would’ve happened if Nikolai actually managed to kill him.
If Nikolai found out what would happen, would he still want to kill Fyodor?
Or would he try even harder to kill him?
Nikolai would get the death he so wishes but Fyodor would live. He cannot win.
I love headcanons as a concept because it is so silly to me that a person can look at some random character and just decide something about them.
You don’t even need evidence to back it up most of the time. It’s just vibes.
And everyone has their own little headcanons that we can trade around like Pokémon.
It’s especially great when a headcanon becomes so popular it’s basically accepted as canon.
wish i could go missing for a little bit and no one would freak out and then i could come back and they'd be like "did you have fun going missing" and i'd be like "yeah, thanks" and then i could do that every couple of months or so and it wouldn't be a big deal
Fukuzawa and Mori switched places?
Imagine after Natsume pairs Mori and Fukuzawa up for his plan Fukuzawa finds out about Mori’s plans to kill the current Port Mafia boss.
Imagine Fukuzawa beats him to it and kills the boss first in the hopes that he can at least make the PM into a lesser evil.
Imagine Mori founds the Armed Detective Agency to stay on the tail of the PM and hopefully get Fukuzawa arrested or at the very least force him out of the boss position…
Akutagawa’s lack of eyebrows is symbolic guys
You know what we need more of in BSD?
Sibling dynamic Ranpo and Kyouka.
It’s right there, Asagiri and Bones literally handed it to us but we hardly ever talk about ittt
I swear I could see Atsushi being brutally nice to Akutagawa just to fuck with him.
Just to confuse him.
Just to make him question all things.
(He learned it from Dazai)
