Ways I Show a Character is In Love But Doesn't Know It Yet...

This one’s for the emotional masochists writing the slowest of burns, where your readers are screaming “just kiss already!” by chapter twenty... I Love and Hate you... ♥

They compare everyone else to the person… and everyone else comes up short. Even when they’re not consciously doing it. No one’s laugh is as warm. No one’s eyes crinkle that way.

They remember the weirdest little things about them. Birthdays? Whatever. But that time they snorted laughing at a dumb joke? Locked and loaded.

They feel weirdly guilty when flirting with someone else. Like they’re cheating… except they’re not even dating. Or are they? Or—ugh, feelings are the worst.

They notice every damn detail when the other person isn’t around. "They’d like this song." "This smells like their shampoo." "I wonder what they'd say about this weird squirrel."

They use weird, overly specific compliments. Not “You look good,” but “That color makes your eyes look like a storm in a novel I’d cry over.”

They get weirdly intense about that person being hurt or in danger. Like, irrationally intense. "He’s just a friend," they say while planning to murder anyone who makes them cry.

They feel safer around them than anyone else, and it freaks them out. Like: “I’m always on guard. Except with you. That’s... suspicious.”

Oh sh- , he got reinforcement! (⁠ʘ⁠ᗩ⁠ʘ⁠’⁠)

As everyone proceed to the next department, the little white squirrel followed the crowd, as usual, in the back.

Miss Cake was grateful that, by some miracle, noone seemed to get hurt by the stairs. Well, at least badly. Some seemed to trip but otherwise looked okay.

She curiously glanced around the crowd.

"So many unique people here..." — she thought.

As she observed the crowd, she noticed a white and purple-blue person, keeping to themselves but looking around with excitement too.

"Ah, it's them again". Seeing how they were alone and still didn't interact with anyone, the little squirrel felt a sense of familiarity. In a way, she was, herself, a social ghost in some sense. Always among the crowd, but never standing out. Well, at least she was having fun without bothering anyone. "... Should I talk to them?" — she tilted her head.

At some point Nira noticed her Boss vanishing somewhere and reappearing with a familiar little tv-headed creature. Ah, Animsay, was it? The head of the.... Ah, Social Media Department, right! Man, she really ought to memorise some of the important people who worked here, heh (⁠´⁠-⁠﹏⁠-⁠`⁠；⁠).

When everyone arrived at the Film department Nira suddenly noticed someone tripping at the last step of yet another, but less deadly flight of stairs.

She quickly moved to help them but noticed that the blonde girl got up, dusted herself off and overall seemed fine. The squirrel sighed with relief. She decided to continue on with the crowd. But maybe she should check on the girl, just in case.

Because Nira rarely got out of her Health Department office, she was kind of participating in the tour too, listening to Boss and the crew, taking in the information with interest.

When the crew members were done introducing themselves and and the crowd dispersed in various directions, Nira decided to briefly go to the kitchen and fill up her small water bottle that she always kept at herself.

As she entered the kitchen she saw a familiar figure with horns and striking red ribbons around.

Grinnames, as she remembered. That one weird gal. The one that wanted to....eat...the fanmail...? Okay, nevermind. Weird. But funny, in some way.

As the healthcare employee moved to the kitchen counter and proceeded to fill up her bottle, she observed Grinnames putting something in the crew's fridge-... Wait- was that even allowed?? Huh??

She wanted to stop her and ask what she was doing, but anxiety got better of her. Oh well. The white squirrel finished with her bottle and moved to head out of the kitchen, thinking on her way about how many people with food poisoning she would possibly get in her office soon...

At some point while walking, she daydreamed about what if the tour visited her department. Well, It's remote and not that interesting. But the office she worked at was nicely decorated, with hung-up stars and posters and even some plushies around. The majority of employees who visited her office said they liked the place. It brought a sense of whimsy and piece to them, which Nira was only happy to hear.

Suddenly, something snapped her out of her thoughts.

Her medic senses were tingling...

Quickly looking around, she noticed a familiar figure that caught her attention .

It was the delivery girl. She seemed to storm off in the side of the crowd. But something felt off...

A concerned expression fell on her face. Looking around the crowd, she thought of what to do... Leave her post? She anxiously thought to herself. "You know what? No!" Screw it, her job was to make sure everyone on the tour was alright, even the employees, and like heck she was going to ignore someone suffering!

Swiftly, Nira moved through the crowd, silently and unnoticed, smoothly avoiding people and keeping track of Nick's directions.

For a moment she lost sight of her. Nira worriedly looked around and then saw the bathroom door.

She approached it slowly, carefully twisting the handle. Locked.

"Well, crap. What to do, what to do..."

She looked around when a glint of metal up ahead caught her eye. The ventilation shaft.

"A-ha!" — with a silent triumph the squirrel climbed up the shaft and expertly moved through it.

There was a thumping sound inside the bathroom before something fell Infront of Nicknack with a loud CLANK and thud.

Before the girl with a heart-shaped eye patch sat a white squirrel, holding onto her head and huffing from dust. Her eyes noticed Nick, sitting at the floor and gripping her legs tightly. Awkward silence followed.

—Uhhh... Hi! Are you...okay? — the squirrel asked timidly with a tentative smile, hand behind her head still.

She is ready to offer her help. What would happen next?

Hello everyone, I'm back from my vet clinical practice. Actually been for a bit but felt really burnt out, that's why I haven't been posting anything lately. Honestly, I don't have the motivation to do anything art-related right now and just want to rest.

I haven't even watched the latest movie yet. And yes, I know about Puzzles's return, as I have been the spoiled, and yes, I'll still watch it. Someday. Eventually... I just don't feel like watching anything rn, I dunno why (and also don't know why I wasn't so hyped up to receive the news about his return. Like, no no, don't get me wrong, I'm happy that my favourite villain is back, but for some reason I'm not screaming and jumping with joy as everyone... Still figuring out why though... 🤔)

As for my field trip, It was fun! I worked with goats. They were curious creatures, bold and annoying. The kids were adorable, but not less bold and annoying 😄.

Now I know how to make injections and other medical stuff! 👌 Yay

But also I have a lot of paperwork to do and that's also the reason why I'm not motivated to draw.

I'll get back to making art. Sometime. Just not right now :)

Nira stood there, in the back of the lobby. She was looking at the crowd, monitoring everyone's behaviour and simultaneously observing anyone for adverse symptoms.

By her nature, she was rather observant in some way, and noticed some individuals acting a bit suspicious. Oh well... There were security workers and she trusted them to do their duty to maintain peace during the event.

When Mr Puzzles's speech was over, her ears perked, and Miss Cake stared to move behind the crowd after everyone.

Passing the staircase, she squinted her eyes and glared at it a bit child-like, like it had personal beef with her.

Miss Cake followed everyone at the art department. While the everyone was meeting the lovely head of the said department, Nira thought about all those valentine letters Mr Puzzles got. Rather cute, she must say. People really loved him.

She was pleasantly surprised to see participants receiving plush toys as gifts. Her eyes squinted in mirth and she quietly chuckled to herself, seeing people's smiles.

As boss' speech ended, she was ready to depart towards the next destination.

The young squirrel with a black tie stood in the lobby, further off, hands behind her back and rocking on her hills giddily.

As a healthcare employee of the Puzzlevision Studios, Miss Cake was tasked to be on a standby and monitor the groups during the tour, provide medical help to anyone, if something was to occur.

She was observing the huge crowd of various people, both very exited and nervous for the event.

And do you know what's the worst thing? I couldn't even be there for him.

I couldn't tackle-hug him and whisper tender words of comfort. I couldn't hold his hand and tell him that he mattered to me. That he matters to me alive. Everything that connected me with him was this stupid little piece of plastic and metal...

I don't want to lose someone. Not again. And now, not because of me. Even if I know him for less than a month, I'm not going to let him just end his life. Even if I didn't care about him, I'm not letting a person die by their own hands.

I'm going to do everything to make sure this man never thinks of getting rid of his existence. Not from this world and not from my life...

I can't stop crying... Something has happened. I almost lost him. He scared me so much. It happened so suddenly.

I wasn't even scared that much the first time. The first time it was just a joke went wrong, triggering him slightly, that we scared each other and talked it out. This time I almost lost him...

He wasn't prepared for my answer. We talked about life and future. I said I might not even be here tomorrow because who knows what might happen, it's life. That's the right way of thinking for a christian - being prepared for end any moment.

After hearing that he wanted to end his life.

I talked him out. I think I did, he said so himself.

But I was scared

I was so, so scared

And still am

This never happened to me before

I don't want to lose someone I care about. Not again...

As I'm typing this I'm crying again

I'm scared I won't receive a "good morning <3" from him when I wake up

Today I had to leave the farm to go to town and perform at our uni's gala. We got first place. I arrived back at the farm at night, safely. We got stuck literally near our small temporary houses and had to wake up some of my groupmates in the middle of the night to help move the car. All is well.

I have to sleep now and wake up very early, but I can't. Not after what happened.

But hey, at least the night sky was beautiful

I'm going to sleep

GSP often visits- wait no that's not the right one. Uh... Oh! Yeah. GSP often gets SENT to the clinic due to Lucian finding him passed out. Why? Caffeine! Being on shift for long hours always give him the urge to drink coffee + he's a huge workaholic! And not the good type. He's been like this since before and after the brainwash. Habits never change amirite?

It's only after a few weeks of working did he find out about another worker in the same department as him besides Lucian, and that's Harley! His first reaction? "They've got a child in here??" Honestly, reasonable. I'd be like that too.

Nicknack sometimes gets requests for.. An ungodly amount of coffee. When she does arrive at the CCTV room all she'll see is GSP on the floor with a bunch of coffee around him littering the room. This doesn't always happen tho! It's only sometimes. GSP will have the motivation to get the coffee himself but sometimes laziness just hits y'know? Since she sends some coffee to him from time to time it's either Lucian carrying him to the clinic or Nicknack reporting.

In this au nicknack is just an little moth, nothing too angsty or deep so I'm just going yap about the design, personality, and things she could do, first off, this nicknack can not talk only squeak like an moth, which is very amusing when she's angry (yes she is pretty tinker bell coded here lol-), she can also glow in the dark and is VERY fluffy, just look at her, she's basically an sky puppy, she has an little star shaped scar on her antenna and it effects her flying (not by much but she definitely prefers walking or sitting on puzzles shoulder) she's very buddy buddy with this puzzles too and loves snuggles or just flying onto his screen, she loves the his glow what can I say- and I did on purpose make her wings look like some kind of cloak or cape. Also, poor baby FEARS children, she almost died an few times because of some ten year old wanted to add her to their bug collection, that what she gets for looking pretty and glowing in the dark.
