Ove gotten so invested in the httyd books and the media surrounding it that I sometimes forget the httyd movies exist

One thing that I wished they kept throughout the franchise was Hiccup being the smallest Viking. I wish they kept him scrawny and stringy and shorter than Astrid and the rest of the gang.

Hiccup was ostracised by his entire community for many reasons, one being his weak build and small stature.

Snotlout may be shorter than Hiccup in the movies, but he's got bigger muscles and puffs himself up. He makes up for it by acting like a proper Viking, being loud and obnoxious and always ready to start a fight - that and he can actually lift a weapon.

The name Hiccup is meant to mean small and frail - the runt of a litter or the black sheep. I want Hiccup to be the absolute epitome yet antithesis of his name. I want Hiccup to be small and unassuming and shorter than the rest. But I also want him to be Great. I want him to be brave and stubborn and hard to kill. Awkward and sarcastic at the worst of times but still kind and friendly and always dependable.

I want him to be everything a Viking is and isn't. I want him to be a peacekeeper and a warrior, an adventurer and an inventor, the son of the chief and the hiccup of his tribe. Someone who can't wield the same weapons as his tribesmen so he makes his own. Someone who wants to uphold the traditions and culture of his people yet always thinks outside of the box. The representation of this new age that's fast approaching, the line in the middle where old and new clash.

I want Hiccup to dress like a Viking, talk like a Viking, eat, sleep and walk like a Viking yet be the very last thing anyone ever thinks of when they think of a Viking. And most of all I want there to be absolutely nothing wrong with that.

I wish they hadn't made him tall and appealing in the end. I wish they'd kept him the way he was. A Viking born too early and too weak in the middle of one of the harshest winters ever experienced by the barbaric archipelago. A Viking who beat the odds and survived. He's braved every terrible winter since his birth and lives in a place where it snows nine months of the year and hails the other three. He can endure bone-freezing chills and frozen oceans but never fails to catch the common cold. He's always been a bit sickly, ever since he was a child, but he always bounces back. He's got scars and a missing leg and his hands are filled with callouses, cuts and burns, but he's soft-spoken and loves to read and never skips a meal yet can never seem to get any bigger.

I wish they could have kept Hiccup the way he was. I wish they didn't have to change him in order to have him become a worthy hero.

I wish the entire village could look at their little runt of a chief and still crack jokes about his long-overdue growth spurt. I want them to look at him and be filled with pride, cause despite the fact that he hasn't grown an inch since he was sixteen, there isn't a single person on Berk who can look at him without seeing just how far he's come.

The httyd books are amazing and I live all the characters to death (except for Alvin) but can you imagine how bad they all smelt in books 10-12?

I <3 similarities between the books and the movies

Hiccup's speech in the epilogue of THW was the first thing Hiccup said in the books.

I liked how Hiccup in the movies was like he was based off a different Hiccup from the books in each movie. Like in httyd 1 he was like Hiccup the first in the sense that he was the first person to befriend and nurse a dragon back to health in thousands of years. Then it httyd 2 he was like Hiccup the 2nd because he wanted to peacefully show Drago that dragons shouldn't be enslaved and it ended in a disaster. Then in httyd 3 he was like Hiccup the third because he has to come to terms with the fact that dragons and humans can't coexist so he had to let the dragons go.

If Fishlegs had Spotify I feel like he'd really just use it for podcasts and audio books but if he had to listen to anything it'd probably be whatever he thinks his friends like since he's flexible with music genres and stuff

Hiccup hates hugs but Camicazi and Fishlegs love them so Hiccup only hugs those 2.

Camicazi just smells people for the sake of smelling that smell later and getting happy and nostalgic over it.

Hiccup tried to teach Camicazi a few of the languages he knows but she only learnt the swear words. He just decided to teach Fishlegs instead.

My friend made a comment about my autism but I never told her I have autism so I looked up at her and I said "how did you know I have autism?" And she said "You're reading how to train your dragon right now."

Anyone else ever think about their special interest and just start violently stimming or is that just me because I swear if someone asks me about the httyd books and then gets weirded out when I start flapping my hands and kicking my feet then I swear to God I'm gonna lose it

I loved it!! My favourite part was when Excellinor crawled out of the cauldron because I loved the picture. I was so mad when Snotlout threw that rock tho like omg

Hiccup used to hide his slave mark from his dad by wearing his helmet to sleep. He did this for a month after he got it and then just decided he was being paranoid and stopped.

Camicazi believes in the toothfairy and Fishlegs keeps trying to convince her it doesn't exist because he never gets money from his teeth.

Fishlegs once tore his hut apart looking for his lobster claw necklace and had to ask Hiccup to help him look and it turned out to just be under his bed.

In book 4 it says Camicazi admires Hiccup so I think she sees him as sort of a leader or older brother.

Sitting on my floor crying because I whole heartedly believe I will never read or write a story as good as the httyd books and I'll never be able to read them for the first time ever again

I like how the first 10 httyd books are centred around a certain lost thing and how Hiccup managed to get it and use it in situations of need.

Like in book 1 it was Toothless (the fang free dragon)

In book 2 it was the Endeavour (the second best sword)

In book 3 it was the Roman shield

In book 4 it was the arrow from the land that doesn't exist

In book 5 it was the ruby heart stone

In book 6 it was the key that unlocks all locks (I think??? I haven't read it in a while so I don't entirely remember so please correct me if I'm wrong)

In book 7 it was the ticking thing

In book 8 it was the throne

In book 9 it was the crown

And in book 10 it was the dragon jewel

But the fact that each book is about a different lost thing and shows why they were needed is great. Hiccup needed the fang free dragon to crack open the lobster claw necklace, then he needed the sword to fight Alvin, then he needed the Roman shield to cover that hole in the cave so they could hide from the dragon rebellion in book 9, then he needed the arrow to make him immune to vorpent venom. It's all so cool and I love these books so much.

People that never read the httyd books will never understand the positive impact that shit has on a child. (I had nightmares for months)
