ranting part three
why do some (not all) bsd fans hate the female characters so much? i don’t get it. like, everybody hates teruko for just DOING HER JOB because she was fighting sigma. then people say, ‘oh, i don’t like her because her childish personality is annoying not because she’s a woman just TRYING TO DO HER JOB’ and then their favorite character is ranpo. or, people will hate a female character because she ‘gets in the way of their favorite ship’. if you haven’t seen this before i’m happy for you, but an example is ‘lucy gets in the way of sskk!!’ seriously? like, seriously? that is so fucking stupid. (saying this as a sskk/taniatsu shipper) just ship whatever you want and let that character exist. and to those who deny this, if lucy was a man and akutagawa was a woman you’d hate akutagawa because she ‘gets in the way of atsulucy’ there’s also the ‘oh, her only personality is liking a man!!’ when we were first introduced to katai his only personality trait was liking a woman and the fandom still loved him. i don’t like that in any character, but i’m willing to put up with it if the author fleshes out the character’s personality later. i absolutely despise the way this fandom treats female characters, yeah, some of their writing isn’t the best but they’re still necessary to the plot. this has been lou. i’m sorry for all the rants i’ve been doing recently, but i’m pissed about a lot of things. thank you for coming to my ted talk.

I have a silly little headcanon that if Chuuya was a part of the ADA, him Yosano Dazai and Ranpo would be the ultimate gossip girls of the agency. They would round up on the break room tabel spilling the hottest tea of the day.
+ Yosano and Chuuya feed off of each others moods so when Chuuya shows up to work pissed Yosano picks up on his behavior quickly. They end up roasting the living shit out of everyone and Ranpo simply sits back and enjoys the show with a pack of potato chips. Dazai is the biggest victim of it all because Chuuya.
+ Yosano having a secret wine stash at the infirmary. On some fridays they stick around after work, Yosano and Chuuya share a bottle of wine while Ranpo enjoys his hot chocolate because wine tastes like vinegar. Dazai is long gone wandering around a rooftop or a bridge. They are pretty much already drunk when Kunikida arrives at the agency to pick up a document he needs because he works even outside of working hours. His priceless reaction and the scolding that falls onto Chuuya and Yosano's drunk - deaf ears, gets dutifully recorded by Ranpo every time for them to laugh their asses off on monday alongside Dazai.
Yesterday, I drew a fem!zai, and it coincidentally looked like Yosano.
This got me thinking-
If Dazai was a woman, I think he would resemble Yosano sorta uncannily.
Man it makes me wanna smack Mori even more...

Everyone is worried that Dazai will be chosen for the PM exchange, but hear me out, guys. What if Fukuzawa is the one who joins PM? What if he sacrifices himself for ADA?Firstly, I found it really weird and out of character that he accepted that exchange thing because he really cares about all the ADA members. So why would he accept a condition like that? Regarding Dazai, I think it's unlikely that Fukuzawa would have him exchanged to PM that easily because he knows how hard it is to leave the world of darkness, and Dazai is trying his best to become a good person. Fukuzawa knows that and cares about Dazai as much as he cares about the other members. So I don't think he'll push him back into the darkness like that. As for the other members, Kenji and Tanizaki (even though he said he doesn't mind getting exchanged to PM in season 4) are unlikely because they are still kids. Kyouka is out of the question, he denied giving Yosano to PM, Atsushi (even though it would be a good plot twist) is still unlikely, and the same goes for Ranpo and Kunikida. None of them have killed someone before, but Fukuzawa was a well-known and fully trained assassin (which would also save the time and resources required to train the new member) and could be a great asset for PM. They also said that Kunikida is the closest to becoming a successor for Fukuzawa if anything happens to him, which might be foreshadowing. And most importantly, Fukuzawa is a father figure to the ADA members, and Asagiri hates father figures😭😭😭😭 Well we never know what mori is thinking so anything can happen. But I really think that it'll be Fukuzawa.
I think we should take more time to appreciate the cruel irony in so many of the bsd backstories, because Asagiri has this way of writing that's not just "oh sad things happened to this character." They're twisted, each in their own special way.
Atsushi: His whole life, he was treated awfully because he had the tiger. And yet, that tiger is what helped him survive that treatment, it's a manifestation of that will to live he grew because of his abuse. It's the source of all his strength and all his pain. The director told him to only hate him, never to hate himself, and yet, all his life, he blamed only himself for his misfortune. The one lesson the director wasn't trying to teach him is what he learned.
Dazai: At the beginning of dark era, Odasaku has one of the healthiest wills to live. And he reaches out to save Dazai from his own darkness, but he can't. But at the end of dark era...it's flipped. Dazai is begging Odasaku to stay, he's reaching out to stop him, he's telling him to find some meaning in life, that things will get better. Mr. "life is meaningless" himself is trying to tell his friend that life has value because he doesn't want him to go. It's right after he told Odasaku how he knows he's destined to lose everything he desires, and then Oda leaves him because he's lost his will to live. And when he dies, he sees himself as a man who failed to become good, to give up killing, yet Dazai sees him as a success story that people can change.
Chuuya: Chuuya's friends betrayed him because they thought he was betraying them by joining the Mafia. And then Chuuya joined the Mafia in order to protect the friends who just betrayed him.
Yosano: She only wanted to save lives. All she wanted was to help people, to heal them, and yet it was that kindness that ended up turning against her. Because by helping them, she also became the source of all their problems and all their pain. She saved their lives so much that all they wanted was to die.
I could go on for longer, but then this post would be very, very long. There's just something about the cruel irony in each of the backstories that make them all feel so tragic.
I'm obligated to say Dazai is infact pregnant now

Thinking about Tachihara deciding to stay with the Mafia after everything's over.
Thinking about the government refusing to give him his next monthly surgery since he's no longer a Hunting Dog.
Thinking about him accepting and coming to terms with the fact that he's going to die, and even saying his goodbyes to his friends in the mafia.
Thinking about Hirotsu, Gin, Higuchi, Kouyou, Chuuya, all refusing to let him die like this, and scrambling to find a way to save him.
Thinking about Chuuya and Kouyou threatening the hospitals to give him the surgeries, and Gin and Higuchi sneaking around to find something that could help.
And then it hits them. The solution, which now seems so obvious in hindsight.
Thinking about Chuuya on the phone with the Detective Agency, and of course it's Dazai who picks up the other end.
Thinking about him sitting in the office, head in his hands, as he hears Chuuya asking him to let Yosano go to the Mafia base for a while.
Thinking about Dazai, out of genuine concern for her, refusing to let her go back to the Port Mafia.
Thinking about Yosano being out the door before Dazai even puts the phone down, because it's Michizō Tachihara. This is Shunzen's younger brother, of course she has to help him.
Thinking about Yosano, when she arrives at the PM base, not having to hurt him even a little bit to use her ability, because he's already that far gone, that broken.
Thinking about her sitting by his side, wondering if when he wakes up he's going to hate her for using the same ability on him that killed his brother.
But when Tachihara wakes up, all he can say to the doctor is "thank you," because he genuinely means it. Because of Yosano's ability, he's healed completely. He has no commitment to the Hunting dogs now.
