finally going to start reading atyd

whenever i read a marauders with badly translated french/spanish/italian etc i don’t really care bc i know the author tried their best, and it gets the point across that such character can speak such language anyway, and it just doesn’t impact the story. whatever.

HOWEVER, if you’re gonna make a character use a pet name from a language you don’t speak, please look up a list of pet names from that language rather than translating a pet name directly from english. not only does it NOT work, it’s also sometimes very bizarre.

for exemple, there was this one fic where sirius wanted to say ‘babygirl’ in italian and the author translated it to ‘bambino’… which means child/little boy 😭

barty is thrown into the cell next to sirius'. they both hate this and appreciate the irony of finding themselves ending up in the same place as the person they despised for years. they spend the first week arguing and insulting and screaming at each other.

and then one particular bad night barty wakes up from a nightmare and found sirius talking to the regulus star. next things you know they're sharing stories about regulus, sirius from when they were children, and barty from when they were teenage boys at hogwarts.

they end up bonding over the person they both love and their grief. they both appreciate the irony in their only source of comfort being the person they despised for years.

i think when james started flirting w regulus sirius didn't rly mind bc thats just james, and maybe he was even pretty happy to see james treat reg as he would any other of his friends. then he noticed regulus started to blush bc of the flirting and he was like "wait a fucking minute"

if regulus is allowed the brothers bsf trope i think it's only fair sirius has that trope as well. 'by making remus and regulus besties!!' no actually by making sirius kiss bartemius crouch junior

'i like to read fanfic the marauders in alternate universe bc canon stories are too painful' and the alternate universes are the hunger games and divergent

people don't understand that to me jegulus is a classic ship. 'it's started out as a joke' not to me!! this ship is the literal reason i joined the fandom in 2017, it was never a joke to me </3

rating french pet names regulus could call james as a frenchie

chéri kinda hard to picture it bc ppl my age dont rly use it anymore, but it was the 70s so. kinda overused but it means 'dear/darling' which is cute and literal translation gives 'cherished' and i love that. 7/10

bébé he wouldn't. in french bébé is wayyyy less cuter and loving than baby in english. 2/10

mon cœur I LOVE IT. 'my heart' xsuujzaii such a cute pet name. so so so good. my fav. i also think if james had to pick a french pet name to call regulus it'd be this one cuz reg is the heart of the lion <3 20/10.

ma vie it means 'my life' so it could be cute in theory but thats literally how i call my girlies i can't take it seriously. 1/10

ma mie/ma moitié literally no one uses it in france anymore i only know this term bc old books. i know other french ppl would disagree with me but i find it so cute i mean 'my halff'?? i love it. 7/10

mon amour 'my love' is a classic obvi. tbh, not a lot of french ppl my age use it and its a shame i would die if someone called me that. 9/10

ma beauté 'my beauty' is cute but also only family member have called me that so i can't quite picture it. 5/10

mon ange ugh i love love love this one. adorable. underrated. 8/10

ma puce i hate this one. i only let family members. i see a lot of adult men calling their wife/girlfriend that but it doesnt give. 0/10

‘that ship doesn’t even make sense they never even interacted in canon!’ have you considered that i ship characters based on their dynamics and the potential they could have had if they did interact

so we all know that regulus writes sad boy poetry but you’re telling me that james in love with the idea of love potter, aka the biggest romantic fool who has ever graced the hogwarts grounds, wouldn’t spill his heart out on a parchement writing romantic poems cmon now

as much as i love secret jegulus with sirius finding out and going overprotective big brother mode, i also love the idea of sirius thinking that no one is ever gonna be good enough for his baby brother. but then again, he knows one person who’s always been caring, generous, kind, funny and really everything regulus deserves. and that person is none other than james potter, his best friend, aka the best person he knows. and so sirius tries to play matchmaker between a very annoyed regulus black and a reluctant but curious james potter <3
