I won't lie to you, as a fanfic author I've gone through the most traumatic moments of my life thinking "ah, this is gonna make really good fic material"

Can we kill therapy-speak in fanfic?

Don’t get me wrong here. I’m not saying your characters can’t be familiar with therapy keywords. But the use of it in fanfic is just killing off any sort of real, emotional stakes in certain fics. *cough* the my hero fandom

I’ll be real with you; I don’t want my characters to approach a situation with an acute awareness for any possible triggers or emotional responses in an attempt to build rapport with another character who has experienced severe trauma and/or abuse. And sure, let’s say that it is a professional, whose job it is to approach these situations. That doesn’t mean you have to write them like a mental health textbook vs a textbook victim of trauma.

For example; “Aizawa stepped back, not wanting to trigger any sort of trauma response from the abused teenager.”

Yeah, sure. Aizawa is a professional who, as a professional hero, probably has education in dealing with situations like this. But the way it is written is clinically detached, cold, and also way too professional from a man who has probably attended a total of one therapy session on mandate after witnessing the death of one of his best friends (which he never got over btw).

When you want to write a character who is attuned to other people’s needs and fears, try using less therapy bingo words, and be more descriptive of the emotions of the scene.

Instead; “Aizawa carefully stepped backwards, attempting to show he meant no harm. He knew how easy it was to scare a starving alley cat, you would be surprised how the same logic applied to a starving teenager.”

See? Isn’t it so much more soulful? So much easier to connect with? Sure, the first passage got the point across: Aizawa is aware that the kid he’s approaching is likely a victim of something traumatic, so he is approaching it as such. But the average human doesn’t have the dialogue of an occupational therapist, so writing situations like the characters are occupational therapists, kills off any sort of relatability for readers who don’t attend weekly therapy sessions. And even for people who do, it feels more like sitting in the armchair instead of absorbing yourself in the worlds and stories you’re trying to tell.

I’m not saying to ditch the mental health awareness altogether. Sure, having emotionally stunted characters create for interesting stories, but you can tell just as compelling of a story without having to resort to textbook wording. Instead, use that therapy foundation to build something more around your characters. Because using the therapy speak is just the same as telling, and not showing.

Dazai Photo Location?

Hi anyone and everyone who sees this! So, my favorite author is Osamu Dazai, ofc, known for writing No Longer Human, The Setting Sun, etc. I’ve been a fan of him for some time now, and am finally going on a trip across Japan sooner or later!! 🥳🥳 This was one of the most interesting photo’s I had of Dazai, and was hoping to be able to find and visit this place. There's like, so many things I wanna do in life.

I want to find fossils and prep them for display.

I want to write a children's book.

I want to make my own comic.

I want to write my own novels.

I want to try voice acting.

I want to try acting acting.

I want to make ceramics.

Why does there have to be so many interesting things you can do in life, so many things that I wanna try, but I still can't settle on an actual career???

the biggest tragedy of my life is that I once wrote a character that was genuinely incredibly detailed and complex, every action she did made sense for her character, nothing ooc, she had a well developed character arc where she overcame her personal issues and hangups and grew into a more healthy person, she had complex relationships with those around her, again for reasons that make sense with her character, even had a direct foil that she had such a tragically complicated relationship with, it was full of symbolism and motifs that worked with the overarching story and with many characters; she is my proudest accomplishment across all my writing and I think about her at least twice a day

Literally me, That's why I always end up commenting something like: please update but if you don't want to update that's okay too, but an update would be greatly appreciated

Sometimes I feel guilty for saying "please update soon" or such that'll *probably* make the author rush to write the fic, it makes me feel like a manipulator, I am really sorry if I ever commented as such on your fic or your prompt or your dm, that was so selfish of me 🙏

They say other people's addiction and getting high differ. It seems for us obsesses of fanfiction x reader, this is our addiction and our way of getting high. When you're lucky enough to find a treasure trove of fanfiction, it's like an itch that has finally been scratched. It's a feeling of pure euphoria or a craving that has finally been satisfied.

Have you ever read a really good fic then looked up the author's other works and lo and behold a treasure trove of fics that are exactly your kind of shit? Because god that is what euphoria feels like. I love you random fic writers i unexpectedly find

I always thought I was a failure whenever I abandoned a fic for reasons and for never updating or releasing new fic for my lovely readers. However, reading this made me aware that at least I made people happy with fics that I've released in some way or another.

And as a reader, it made me realize again how much we look forward to updating, or just reminiscing while reading from our favorite author and favorite stories. That even if its abandon and never updated, we still love those fanfics no matter what.

You know what?

I love you, fics that take months to update. I click on the newest chapter and have no memory of this place and get to go back some chapters and rediscover how much i love everything about this story.

I love you, fics that take years to update. I think of you fondly, and know your names, go search for you and see an update from this year and scream, diving in uncaring of any missed details (i will finish the update and read you in reverse because this is a treat you have bestowed)

I love you, fics that probably will never update again. Thank you for being a roman empire for my mind, thank you for teaching me about the ephemeral fandom experience, for inspiring a thousand million what if-s, for being a comfort read and a nostalgia read and a reread.

I love you fic writers, who jump into projects and stories with enthusiasm. I love you when you succeed in pumping out those chapters and that love doesn't go away when you stop.

I love you fic writers who post and then get in your own head and never feel confident enough to update, whether it's at all or whether it's just that one story.

I love you fic writers, who have a fandom or media hurt you to the point of abandoning or having a hard time with their WIPs.

I love you fic writers, who lose interest or have life changes or illness or bad memory. Thank you for being part of the fandom, a core part of the fandom. Thank you for the time spent in the fandom.

I love you, fic writers who try out something new and then stop. You're so valid.

I love you, WIP fics that may or may not ever get finished. Thank you for brightening my day in the way only you could have.

“Is she going to be okay?” Henry asked.

Ray looked at him. “I don’t know, kid.” He leaned to your ear, “If you don’t you are so grounded.” He stepped back, tears forming in his eyes as Schwoz turned and shook his head.

So I just got a haircut (bob) and my sister said "You finally look like an author." 💀💀

What I see in the dark -

I see eyes, peering at me with malicious intent, their gaze piercing my soul and claw at my skin. I bleed, it pools on the bed, the ground, there the shadows lap up my suffering. The way I cry, they adore it. If they could laugh at how I sob and hit my head, yanking out hair as if it burns me, they would cackle.

I see hands, they grab at my ankle when I try to flee the bed I'm locked in, pulling me under with no chance to take a breath. Their grip is strong, bruises line my legs and crush my bones. They wave at me, trying to tempt me to come closer. But I don't. I wouldn't dare.

I see a mouth, it's teeth eager to bite me, it's lips curled into a twisted grin, a tongue twitching eagerly at the idea of a feast. I curl under the covers and beg for my parents to save me from it. From the memories. The deepest, darkest ones. From the way it's perverse intentions change me, infecting my mind.

I see a man. He glares at me. In the mirror. The TV screen. The corner of my eye. Under the bed. Under the floorboards. In the walls. On the ceiling.

Why won't he stop.

Why won't he leave.

He's going to kill me.

Alrighty so this AU is based off of this song which I’m calling

Tippy’s Show of Wonders! Au

Basically after the events of S1 and Jailbreak, Tippy has gone back to his normal life as a Doorman, and with the Mars stone door moved out of the street. Everything was basically as normal as Lego City can get. Except when Tippy feels like he’s being watched lately, the feeling keeps getting more and more frequent each day at the point where it feels like all eyes are on him 24/7. He keeps ignoring it for now, but things start to take a turn for the strange when he starts hearing whispers, and Frendrick suddenly what’s him to be in his plans more and more. One day Frendrick, on his usual scheme to be better than Sinclaire, scouted and found out about an abandoned circus tent theatre. Frendrick being Frendrick decided it needed to be demolished for him to build a factory for very toxic things that will profit him very much, but before he could even do so, his machines started to break and rust one by one. Everyone was slightly confused, the equipment had been fine before but, them knowing Frendrick, was probably in secret poor condition anyway so they ignored it. Frendrick got angry, threw a tantrum, and decided to deal with it manually by letting his workers do it for him of course, they begrudgingly agreed and entered the building with tools.

A few hours later, Frendrick was tapping his watch and foot very angrily, just then a few workers came out. A sliver of the dozen that went in, some were injured badly, and the ones that weren’t were carrying the limp. Frendrick was startled and confused, what in the hell happened in there..didn’t matter more workers to not get paid and hopefully no lawsuits that Sinclaire can use against him. He moved out with the remaining workers, and yelled at them for being baby’s.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaachhhhhhhh writing is so hard (ToT) i have literally the ENTIRE fic planned out, but actually putting it into words fucking SUCKS for some reason rn (;´Д⊂) im gonna start pissing in my pants screaming and crying and throwing up ((total wordcount rn is about 8750))
